Background / History
Chen Mo was originally a frail, isolated youth from Chen Family Village. He rarely left his remote home and had little contact with villagers beyond his parents. Perfecting the Health Cultivation Technique completely resolved his physical ailments, rapidly changing him into a lean but muscular young man with a markedly steadier demeanor 2.
His talent became apparent when he lifted a 300-jin stone lock, confirming his Strength Refining Realm cultivation. Village Chief Chen Qun agreed to teach him Tiger Fist ahead of schedule, while Chen Chao supported his early martial training 4. Within days of obtaining Tiger Fist, Chen Mo entered the Inner Strength Realm; Chen Qun consequently declared that “Chen Family Village has produced a Dragon” 8.
Chen Mo left for Hequ County to pursue stronger techniques and resources. He briefly became a Guo Family Guest Official, receiving housing, a saber, identification token, and one thousand taels of silver, but remained wary of the family’s motives 27. After discovering that one of his meals had been poisoned, he prepared an escape route through an underground tunnel and abandoned the Guo Family 36.
He later entered the True Martial Sect, where Yi Feng became his master. His exceptional cultivation speed, combat ability, and aptitude earned the sect’s heavy investment, while he developed skills in alchemy, blacksmithing, talismanship, and other crafts 95 103 186.
Chen Mo’s battlefield accomplishments made him famous beyond Lin Chang Commandery. He killed the Xiantian Heaven Flower expert Aliqi, became recognized as the True Martial Sect’s hope for revival, and attracted the attention of the Great Zhou imperial court 159 161. He subsequently traveled widely, resisted recruitment and coercion by powerful factions, and continued seeking higher-level cultivation methods.
After reaching Supreme Grandmaster level, Chen Mo left the Three Western Kingdoms for a broader world. He joined the Xuanyuan Sect after passing its age and talent tests as a 20-year-old super genius, later becoming one of its most formidable elders 284 307.
Appearance
Chen Mo’s appearance changes dramatically alongside his cultivation. At fifteen, he grows from a sickly youth into a lean, muscular hunter; several months later, he is over 1.8 meters tall, powerfully built, and difficult to recognize as the same village boy 2 58.
- Initially carries a hunting bow, woodcutting knife, and quiver when leaving Chen Family Village 2.
- Has clear muscle definition and balanced proportions by his return to the village 58.
- Possesses a gentle, steady temperament that makes him appear older than his actual age 58.
- Often damages or tears his clothing during breakthroughs and intense battles because of his physical growth and strength 88 91.
- Can alter his appearance and physique with Disguise Art and the Bone Shrinking Technique 116 245.
Personality
Chen Mo is cautious, pragmatic, and intensely focused on survival, strength, and longevity. He habitually treats power as the best answer to schemes and danger, yet he does not recklessly trust powerful factions or accept favorable treatment at face value 27 36.
Despite his low-profile habits, he is capable of decisive and ruthless action against threats. He eliminates enemies who pursue or betray him, including Grandmasters who attempt to force him into a poison contract 181 182. His growing confidence eventually allows him to act more freely when he no longer has vulnerable ties that others can exploit 328.
He values debts of gratitude, loyalty, and friendship. Although normally independent, he protects Xun Yi and Yao Guangzhi against the Commandery Governor’s Mansion and later shares the Tenfold Martial Way with his senior brothers, their children, and Zhangsun Wuyou 217 276 278.
