To see more clearly, Wu Hen deliberately walked into the stone valley.
Quite a few people had indeed gathered here, and judging by their behavior, they all seemed to be fellow countrymen.
Each of them looked lost and bewildered. Some in the crowd were even wailing incessantly; having arrived in this alien dimension for the first time, their psychological resilience was extremely poor.
"We want to go back! We want to go back!"
"Climb onto the Soul-Resting Tree and get into the Soul Flower, and you can go back!"
"Do you guys smell something strange?"
"Who cares? I don't want to stay in this hellhole for another minute."
"I'm a student, can you let me go first?"
A crowd surged into the stone valley, and they scrambled to climb onto the Soul-Resting Trees.
Yang Qin was also very anxious at this moment. If they didn't go and claim a spot now, there wouldn't be any room left for them!
Wu Hen, however, kept a cold face, his eyes locked firmly onto one particular Soul-Resting Tree that looked different from the others.
If one observed carefully, a difference could indeed be found: the roots of this Soul-Resting Tree were buried very deep, making it impossible to see what lay beneath the soil.
Moreover, when someone entered the Soul Flower pod, the beautiful aurora that had appeared before did not manifest. Instead, white, worm-like creatures oozed out from the branches and plunged headfirst into the petals...
The problem was that the people inside the Soul Flowers were fast asleep. Those white fungal worms could do whatever they wanted to the humans, including burrowing into their skulls!
"Can't you see those white things?" Wu Hen asked.
"No, what are you talking about?" Yang Qin looked at him, puzzled.
As the Soul Flowers were occupied one by one, Yang Qin began to panic. They were really going to run out of spots.
"I see some strange things. This Soul-Resting Tree is problematic," Wu Hen explained briefly to Yang Qin.
Yang Qin was even more confused. In her line of sight, this Soul-Resting Tree was no different from the ones they had seen in the flower valley earlier.
Furthermore, the people who had entered the Soul Flowers had clearly returned to their homes.
"If you insist on lying in there, I won't stop you," Wu Hen advised kindly.
"I... I..." Yang Qin fell into a dilemma, not knowing whether to believe what she saw or to believe this man.
To be honest, Wu Hen felt completely uneasy.
In the eyes of others, this Soul-Resting Tree was beautiful and pure, like a tree of the sanctuary. But in Wu Hen's eyes, it was riddled with worms, decaying and terrifying. Lying on such a Soul-Resting Tree was no different from throwing oneself into a nest of venomous insects.
Aunt Su Li had said: do not trust only your eyes. In the Desolate Dust, everything will deceive your senses!
Yang Qin and the people in the Stone Valley were completely unable to see these white fungal insects. The main reason he could see them was that he had killed an Insect-Eyed Half-Human not long ago and absorbed some of its energy.
"Ya ya yi~~~~~~~"
Listening to the cry of the Green Cicada, Wu Hen chose to turn around and rendezvous with Ming Yi.
Yang Qin stood rooted to the spot, still unsure of what to do.
If I choose the Soul-Resting Tree right now, I will only return to my homeland for a short while. But once I wake up, it will be impossible to find such a powerful big brother again... Finally, Yang Qin let her wisdom triumph over temptation. She turned around resolutely, deciding to leave the Stone Valley as well.
Just as Yang Qin turned, the bark patterns on the trunk of the Soul-Resting Tree slowly opened. If one looked closely, they would discover that the patterns in the bark were just like an eye!!
The tree pattern opened, revealing a milky-white vertical pupil inside.
Yang Qin felt something watching her from behind. She whipped her head around and saw a scene that made her collapse to the ground in terror!
Dense clusters of white fungal insects were intertwined, coiled into a milky-white spherical object that looked like a giant eyeball, staring at her with malice!!
Only then did Yang Qin suddenly recall that the handbooks of her team members had mentioned that if one encountered a Soul-Resting Tree, one must, absolutely must, distinguish it carefully...
Because in the alien biological chain, some plants also possessed the ability to deceive and prey!
"Wait for me... Big brother, wait for me..."
Terrified out of her wits, Yang Qin sprinted in the direction Wu Hen had left.
To be honest, Yang Qin felt that if she had hesitated for even one more second, she might have been dragged into the Stone Valley by that Eyed-Insect Tree!
Too terrifying...
It was truly too terrifying!
Humans walking in this alien dimension had finally discovered that the Soul-Resting Tree could allow them to return to their homeland and cleanse their souls. How could they have imagined that there was something in this alien dimension that looked extremely similar to the Soul-Resting Tree?
Like a pitcher plant, it released sweet stamens, preying on humans who stopped to rest just like mosquitoes and ants!
She finally caught up to her big brother.
The first thing Yang Qin did was find a patch of grass to change her pants.
Wu Hen was speechless. She was such a grown person, why did she keep having accidents?
Following the direction the Green Cicada was flying, Wu Hen walked to a massive rock.
The Green Cicada landed on a rock covered in strange flowers, seemingly waiting for Wu Hen to catch up.
As soon as Wu Hen arrived, the strange-flower rock suddenly split open a large crack in the middle. A long tongue instantly coiled around the Green Cicada, pulling it into the tip of the tongue before swallowing it into the belly of the rock!
Yang Qin, who had just finished changing her pants, nearly wet herself again.
She stood trembling in place, her face deathly pale.
Wu Hen had not expected that the mechanical Green Cicada would actually be eaten by a giant rock!
Looking closer, he realized that what was in front of them wasn't a rock at all, but a giant toad with skin resembling mossy granite. It slowly opened eyes the size of lanterns, its pupils rotating as it scanned the area, though it was unclear if it could see the motionless Wu Hen and Yang Qin.
This creature's strength is likely no less than Fengyun Youcun, Wu Hen thought, taking a deep breath as he made a rough assessment of the creature before him.
Avoid it if possible. If humans weren't on its menu, that would be for the best!
"Spit it out, you bastard!!!"
Suddenly, a sharp, angry cry rang out over the forest, followed by a graceful, sparrow-red figure diving down!
Wu Hen fixed his gaze and saw a beautiful leg, glistening in the sunlight, descend in a heavy axe kick. It whipped up a biting gust of wind and slammed squarely into the forehead of the Stone-Moss Toad monster!!
The giant Stone-Moss Toad flattened instantly, its body deflating like a punctured ball.
A massive amount of gas surged outward. After taking that kick, the Stone-Moss Toad transformed into a round little wild boar and rolled rapidly into the depths of the jungle!
However, the Stone-Moss Toad, thinking it could deflate and escape, didn't even make it a few meters before the owner of those beautiful legs turned into a hurricane, instantly appearing in front of it.
"Whack-whack-whack-whack!!!!"
Her legs fell like a torrential rainstorm onto the toad's belly, kicking the massive creature into mid-air. The giant toad didn't even have a chance to touch the ground!
"I told you to spit it out!!" the woman shouted furiously.
Finally, the Stone-Moss Toad realized it had encountered a ruthless opponent and hurriedly vomited the mechanical Green Cicada from its stomach.
Seeing the mucus-covered Green Cicada, the woman delivered one final mid-air roundhouse kick, sending the disgusting toad flying until it was out of sight.
Wu Hen remained standing there, his mind completely blank.
Such a graceful, stunning, and curvaceous woman... so violent, I love it!
"Miss Ming Yi??" Wu Hen asked tentatively.
The beauty, who looked like a red sparrow, turned around with effortless style and spotted Wu Hen.
But her eyes instantly radiated an imposing aura, her attention fixed on the half-face frost mask Wu Hen was wearing.
"Student Wu Hen, you really have been parasitized." Ming Yi stood tall and slender. As she walked toward him, her demeanor was completely different from what Wu Hen had seen before; she looked like a noble, icy war princess.
"You've misunderstood, this is just a decoration." Wu Hen immediately realized what was happening and removed the mask he had been wearing to look cool.
Seeing that the half-face skin on Wu Hen could actually be removed, a flicker of confusion crossed Ming Yi's eyes. For a moment, she couldn't tell if Wu Hen was normal or if he had been parasitized by a Pupil Worm.
"Come here, let big sister take a look at your eyes." Ming Yi beckoned, gesturing for Wu Hen to move closer.
Wu Hen stepped forward. He noticed that Ming Yi's attire was quite unique; her entire body was covered in a sparrow-red battle suit. It possessed both the perfect, unrestricted fit of leather and the apparent toughness of titanium alloy, leaving Wu Hen unable to tell for a moment whether it was a light mecha or a Ming Martial Battle Suit.
"Why don't you look a bit longer? If you really have been parasitized, this might be the only time you have left to see enough of the world," Ming Yi said, her eyes curving like silver moons, her beautiful smile blooming like a holy orchid.
Wu Hen gave an awkward laugh. "So, are you here to eliminate me? After all, I did tell you that I woke up inside a Soul-Resting Tree."
"There are orders from above: anyone parasitized by a Pupil Worm, including Awakened, must be purged!" Ming Yi stated.
"Oh..." Wu Hen nodded. "So, 'may we meet in the desolate dust' was meant to happen this way."
"I told you to come here!" Ming Yi said, sounding a bit angry.
Wu Hen hesitated for a moment, then finally sighed and walked over to Ming Yi.
Ming Yi pressed one hand onto Wu Hen's shoulder. Just as Wu Hen thought he was about to be subdued, she took a small bottle of iridescent water from her bosom and poured the five-colored liquid directly into his eyes.
"Don't move. With the weakening of the Nuwa Divine Mother, true Soul-Resting Trees are rare now. Nine times out of ten, the ones people encounter are just parasitic seeds. Your body has already been infiltrated by a Pupil Worm; it just hasn't taken effect yet!" Ming Yi said as she washed his eyes.
As the Five-Colored Liquid flowed into his eyes, Wu Hen did not feel any discomfort. Instead, he felt his vision become clearer, and the previous fatigue vanished.
"Huh? Your condition is perfectly normal?" Ming Yi seemed surprised; the Five-Colored Liquid had produced no reaction.
"It seems I'm lucky, then. I must have encountered a genuine Soul-Resting Tree," Wu Hen chuckled.
"Oh, bother! I broke team regulations to come here, and I even stole this precious bottle of Five-Colored Liquid from the captain!" Ming Yi puffed out her cheeks, muttering like a little goldfish. "What a waste of worry!"
