Manabu introduces himself during the club recruitment event. Tachibana delivers a council invitation to Gojo, who throws it away. The invitation predates general recruitment, during which even Ichinose Honami and Katsuragi Kohei have their applications rejected 8 9.

Later, Manabu and Tachibana observe Gojo from a meeting room beside the pool. Gojo notices them despite the intervening glass and one-way curtain, reinforcing Manabu's impression that he is unusually gifted 15.

Basketball Matches

Manabu referees the match between the first-years and third-years. Gojo initially suspects him of helping arrange its betting scheme, but subsequently questions that theory because deceiving so many students seems inconsistent with Manabu's character. His involvement in manipulating the bets is not confirmed 30 31.

He later asks Gojo to represent the school against the previous year's national champions, offering 200 Class Points for victory. The arrangement is jointly approved by Manabu, the chairman, and other school officials; Class B ultimately receives the points 97 100 115.

Sudo Ken Arbitration

Manabu presides over the final hearing concerning accusations that Sudo assaulted three Class C students. He accepts Ayanokoji's medical reports and surveillance footage, allowing him to expose inconsistencies in the accusers' account 134 135 136.

The resolution grants Sudo compensation and Class D 100 Class Points. Ayanokoji later suspects that Gojo discussed the case with Manabu beforehand, but explicitly treats this as speculation 139 141.
