History
Gojo’s first challenge
Gojo Satoru visits the club during practice, before recruitment begins, and proposes a half-court game: first to five baskets, with 3 million Private Points at stake for each side. Kawashima accepts on behalf of the club and selects Yamagami to play. Gojo wins, drawing Kawashima’s interest as a potential recruit, but declines to join 5 6.
First-years versus third-years
Kawashima later arranges a match between the club’s first-year newcomers and third-year veterans. He offers first-years 500 Private Points per basket and invites Gojo to participate. Footage of Gojo’s earlier win spreads on the campus forum, attracting spectators and an anonymous betting pool 28 29.
Gojo sits out the first quarter, which ends 43–7 in the third-years’ favor, then enters as a power forward. He overturns the score and repeatedly shuts down the third-year offense. Yamagami is shaken by the defeat, though his coach and teammates urge him to keep playing 31 32 33.
Exhibition match and change in membership
After Yamagami falls into a slump, the school worries that the club may fail to qualify for the national tournament; its previous worst result was a quarterfinal finish. It invites the previous year’s national champions, Teido High School, for an exhibition match and asks Gojo to represent the school. The plan is to publicize a victory, then withdraw from that year’s qualifiers 97.
Gojo plays alongside the club’s second- and third-year players. Kawashima and Yamagami welcome him as a teammate despite their earlier losses to him. Following the victory, all the club’s third-years leave, satisfied with the result and ready to focus on their futures. Sudo subsequently becomes an official player 103 123.
Sudo Incident
Komiya and Kondo resent Sudo becoming a regular before them. Alongside Ishizaki Daichi, they become involved in an attempt to frame him for an assault, leaving Sudo barred from practice and at risk of expulsion while the case is investigated 123 125 136 137.
