Sha Minghong was originally a lesser prince of the Black Spirit Tiger Shark Clan rather than its legitimate First Young Master. He possessed a seventh-grade bloodline and reached the peak Demon Lord stage, but lacked both the highest succession priority and the conventional qualifications to lead a peak clan 1765 1766.

During the Xianyang Secret Realm expedition, he entered in a golden Flood Dragon carriage and became embroiled in his rivalry with Ao Yuan of the Golden Flood Dragon Clan. Although he used a concealed bloodline divine ability, Ao Yuan ultimately defeated him outside the Xianyang Ancient Tower 1014 1015. Sha Minghong nevertheless secured a land of fortune during the expedition and was later entrusted with leading the Black Spirit Tiger Shark Clan's forces in the struggle for secret-realm opportunities 809 991.

Seeking the Nine Mystic Illusion Spirit Grass, Sha Minghong poisoned and killed a fellow clansman who possessed it. He then used the grass and a blood-colored stele to raise his bloodline to high grade, enduring extreme pain while an ancient tiger shark phantom emerged behind him 1564 1566.

The Blood Stele later activated unexpectedly and sent a beam of light into Sha Minghong's brow. The Purgatory Progenitor seized his body, judged its bloodline and physique usable, and began refining the vessel through an ancient secret art 1707.
