Background

Chen Yao is Chen Shan's only daughter and Chen Shun's younger sister. She first meets Wu Tao when Chen Shan brings his newly accepted disciple home on Dawn Street; though shy, she formally greets him as her senior brother and prepares a room for him. At the time, she wears the Spirit Wandering Boots Wu Tao refined, a fact that leaves her surprised by his First-Rank Level 5 artifact-refining ability 58 59.

Despite her gentle appearance, Chen Yao works processing animal hides into talisman paper at an Inner City Talisman Workshop. The work is dirty, exhausting, and poorly paid, but she endures it to contribute to her own cultivation expenses 61. After Chen Shan and Wu Tao establish the Mystic Origin Magic Tool Shop, she leaves the workshop, warns Wu Tao about Li Xue's manipulative behavior, and later helps operate the shop 63 92 96.
