Ninety-nine thousand nine hundred and ninety people was no small number. Even if ninety-nine thousand nine hundred and ninety pigs stood there for Beichen Haotian to kill, it would still take quite a while, let alone people.
Four months later, on a riverbank in the Land of Rice, two factions faced off. There were around five hundred people in total, and their clothing and weapons were a motley mess.
Suddenly, one side attacked the other. At first, the battle was fierce and nearly even. Then, a figure rapidly approached from one side of the riverbank. The moment he joined the battlefield, the situation changed dramatically.
The man wore black samurai clothes, a mask over his face, and held a long Ninja Sword. The instant he charged into the battlefield, a massacre began.
He was extraordinarily agile and incredibly fast. The Ninja Sword in his hand seemed to possess a living spirit, always slipping past his opponents' defenses to slice open their throats or pierce their chests.
Even when besieged by dozens of people, his killing efficiency did not diminish in the slightest. The Kunai and Shuriken thrown by some ninjas were either dodged, knocked aside, or even deflected back at them. Screams, furious roars, pleas for mercy, clashing weapons, blades tearing through flesh, blood spraying, and the cheers of the victors intertwined, completely shattering the peace of this riverbank covered in lush green grass.
Half an hour later, the fighting ended. One side had been completely wiped out, while more than half of the other side remained. A scar-faced middle-aged man in a gray men's kimono, with a samurai sword at his waist, respectfully approached the masked man in black and offered him a thick stack of payment with both hands.
The man accepted it and counted it. Beneath the mask, his brow furrowed as he said coldly, "Why is the payment one-fourth short of what we agreed on? Your side should have been the one wiped out! Are you playing me?"
"Th-this... sir, please do not be angry. How would I dare? We can gather the rest within three days."
"Hmph, three days? That was not what you said before. You dared use me? You're courting death." The masked man snorted. His gleaming Ninja Sword flashed in an arc through the air, swift as lightning.
With a wet slash, the middle-aged man's samurai sword had only been drawn halfway before he froze. A thin line of blood appeared across his throat, followed by a spray of blood.
Perfect. I'm still short by around a hundred and fifty people. You broke your word and used me to wipe out your enemies. I cannot be bothered to take another job, so I'll collect money from both sides and send you down to the underworld to keep fighting each other.
Watching the people either charge at him in fury after their leader was killed or flee in terror because of his earlier display, Beichen Haotian felt neither sorrow nor joy. His gleaming Ninja Sword danced through the air, and eight crisscrossing blood-red slashes several yards long swept forward. Then he turned and left.
Beichen Haotian paid no attention to the chaos, panic, and bloody carnage behind him, nor did he care how many people might survive. He simply walked away with complete confidence. According to his calculations, that strike should have been enough. Those who survived were fortunate, so there was no need to kill them all.
In an unnamed small town in the Land of Rice, Beichen Haotian found an inn and settled in.
Inside his room, Beichen Haotian took out a scroll. With a puff, white smoke flashed, and a set of sword equipment appeared in his hands. What met his eyes was a silver scabbard. Besides its original patterns, it now bore many black lines that wrapped around the entire sheath.
Beichen Haotian drew Wendao from its scabbard, and the entire room immediately became much colder. Dense blood-red light appeared around his fingers. He pressed one finger against the blade, continuously channeling a unique blood-red energy into Wendao. The atmosphere in the room became increasingly oppressive and gloomy, as an invisible aura enveloped the entire space. Insects hidden in the corners died soundlessly, while the emerald potted plants wilted and gradually turned yellow.
Half an hour later, Beichen Haotian stopped and silently observed Wendao. He discovered that the blood-red dragon pearl and the crystal-red blade had become even more translucent, while the killing intent it radiated had grown stronger, like a demonic sword drawing people into ruin.
With a clang, he sheathed Wendao and tidied up. In broad daylight, Beichen Haotian fell onto the bed and went straight to sleep. He had been exhausted for months and needed a proper rest.
The next morning, Beichen Haotian woke up, changed back into his usual clothes, and ate breakfast. After leaving the town, he summoned Hawk Eyes, strapped Wendao to his back, sat atop Hawk Eyes, and leisurely flew toward the Land of Lightning.
The Land of Lightning lay northeast of the Land of Fire and was a vast peninsula. Within its borders stood mountains that pierced the clouds, with deafening thunder rumbling around their peaks year-round. Kumogakure, the Land of Lightning's military force, was a militant ninja village that revered swordsmanship and ninja Taijutsu. It was extremely warlike, aggressive, and expansionist.
Beichen Haotian planned to visit Cloud-Thunder Gorge. That place seemed to be where the Eight-Tails' Killer B trained. He seemed to remember it being mentioned in the anime he had watched two lifetimes ago. He wanted to see whether the Eight-Tails was truly training there. If Killer B was there, then Ai should be easy to find as well. The brothers were very close, so Ai should visit Killer B whenever he had the time. Besides, Beichen Haotian wanted to spar with Killer B and the Eight-Tails. Killer B might not have reached his peak yet, but with the Eight-Tails, his strength was certainly not weak.
The scenery of the Land of Lightning was magnificent enough to stir one's heroic spirit. Beichen Haotian stood atop Hawk Eyes's back, surrounded by sparse clouds and towering, perilous peaks. Below him ran clear, rushing rivers, while layer upon layer of mountains stretched into the distance, their end impossible to see.
Before long, Beichen Haotian searched through the mountains and finally found the mountain where Sasuke's team had fought the Eight-Tails.
He had Hawk Eyes carry him over and stepped onto the circular yellow-earth platform. After sending Hawk Eyes off to hunt so they could have a barbecue feast that night, Beichen Haotian took out a Kunai, tied an Explosive Tag to it, and fired it at the stone gate. Boom! Fire flashed, and a shower of stone chips fell.
"Baka yarou, kono yarou! Who dares interrupt this great man's training? I'll throw him down there for a bath!" A clumsy, strange rap rang out. A young man who looked nearly twenty, with bronze skin, white hair, and sunglasses, pushed open the mountain gate and walked out.
Beichen Haotian's expression turned somewhat strange. Judging by their birth years, Killer B should have been a little younger than him. Why did Killer B look older instead?
"Kid, who are you? You interrupted this great man's training. If you cannot give me a good reason, I'll beat you flat!" He was still speaking in that rap-like cadence, though it did not sound very intimidating.
"B, be careful. The guy opposite you is extremely strong," a strange beast with a bull's body, eight octopus-like tails, and muscles all over its body warned Killer B from within.
"Yeah, I know," the young Killer B replied. At this time, Killer B had only recently subdued the Eight-Tails, and their relationship still needed to deepen. He took the Eight-Tails' words very seriously.
"Who am I? Guess for yourself. I came here to fight the two of you. I've been out for so long, yet there have been too few opponents who could let me fight without holding back. If I had gone to the Black Market, I truly would not have thought of you. I hope you can satisfy me." Beichen Haotian stretched lazily and habitually put on a show.
Beichen Haotian was clearly treating the two brothers as sparring partners. Killer B was wiser than he looked, so he naturally understood what Beichen Haotian meant.
"Oh yeah! In that case, let's have a fight. It's the perfect chance to test the swordsmanship I only recently mastered." Killer B was not angered. He gestured wildly with his arms and agreed in a rap-like manner.
A smile appeared on Beichen Haotian's face. To be honest, he rather liked Killer B, even if the man was somewhat eccentric.
"Fine. I also want to test your swordsmanship. You are worthy of making me draw my sword." Beichen Haotian drew Wendao from its scabbard. Its blood-red blade reflected an eerie crimson glow under the sun, chilling the air as Observation Haki silently activated.
"The battle begins!" The moment he spoke, Beichen Haotian charged toward Killer B. Even without using Shave, he was incredibly fast.
Killer B hurriedly drew all the swords on his body and assumed an unusual stance, like a hedgehog. No matter which direction an enemy attacked from, a sword would slash at them. With a kick of one foot, Killer B shot toward Beichen Haotian like an arrow released from a bow.
Clang! The two figures collided, and an invisible burst of force spread outward. Then they changed moves and began a fierce exchange. Blood-red sword light and silver sword light collided rapidly in the air as the sharp clashing of weapons rang out.
Killer B's bizarre Severing Blades slashed toward Beichen Haotian in disorderly, unpredictable patterns, seemingly impossible to foresee. Their trajectories could not even be captured by the Sharingan, yet under Beichen Haotian's Observation Haki and extensive combat experience, they were easily blocked. He even found opportunities to counterattack. Every counterattack left Killer B flustered and alarmed.
Monstrous Strength! In another counterattack, Beichen Haotian swung Wendao upward in a diagonal slash from the lower right to the upper left. Killer B hurriedly changed his stance, trying to block it with two swords.
Crack! Two crisp snaps sounded. Although Killer B's Ninja Swords were among Kumogakure's finest, Wendao's sharpness combined with terrifying Monstrous Strength cut through them in a single strike.
Fortunately, Killer B reacted quickly enough to escape the blow that had nearly cut him in two. However, he was not unscathed. A deep wound was carved across his chest, blood flowing freely from it.
Killer B grinned, somewhat annoyed. The swordsmanship I only just mastered has already failed. Still, Killer B had an excellent mentality, one of the best in all of Naruto.
He casually wiped away the blood with his clothes and ignored the wound, charging at Beichen Haotian again. Jinchuriki had powerful recovery abilities. Although the wound was deep, it was still far from fatal.
The two clashed fiercely once more, but with two fewer swords, Killer B was at an even greater disadvantage. Beichen Haotian carved several more wounds across his body.
"Hahaha, you cannot beat me like this. Use whatever other moves you have all at once." Beichen Haotian leaped back and stopped attacking.
"As expected, you're very strong. Looks like I can only use the eighth sword." Killer B remained calm and optimistic, still in the mood to rap. He tossed the remaining swords onto the ground as numerous pale red bubbles appeared over his body, quickly covering him completely. Powerful Chakra shielded his body, radiating an intensely aggressive aura.
