Background / History

Yuanye found Xilin as an infant during a food riot caused by crop failures and rising nutrient-solution prices. Xilin was the only surviving child left in the western woods, hidden in a tree hollow. Yuanye raised him, taught him an advanced fitness method adapted from martial arts, and remained his master until his death when Xilin was twelve. 5

At fourteen, Xilin became a Shadow Hunter to pay for treatment for Hena, his G-class girlfriend. He continued the work after her death, using anonymous cooperation with recognized Hunters to collect bounties while saving enough money to leave Brown Earth Star. 2

While tracking an unusual scent through an abandoned building, Xilin discovered the hidden laboratory of Hou Lei Hansen. Hou Lei captured him and subjected him to illegal DNA purification and analysis experiments. Xilin survived, killed Hou Lei during the procedure, memorized the laboratory’s purge data, and escaped before the facility self-destructed. 3 4

The experiment left genetic chips distributed through Xilin’s body. After confirming that his Gene Type had risen to B-rank, he opened Yuanye’s locked box, inherited a Spatial Ring, and accepted Yuanye’s request to return his coffin to the Yuanye Family if the ring ever reacted. Xilin then altered his phenotype, forged a new identity, and departed Brown Earth Star. 5 6

Appearance

After activating the genetic chips, Xilin changed from a sun-tanned youth with black hair and black eyes into a pale, refined-looking young man whose appearance readily supported his false identity as a wealthy heir. 6

He is also highly adaptable. Xilin can present himself as a refined young master, a harmless academy student, or a ruthless hunter according to the situation. Although he accepts dangerous work for money, he also values the people who shaped his life, particularly Yuanye and Hena. 6 7 13

His apparent excessive sleeping is not laziness: it is a specialized state in which he rapidly processes and assimilates information. This habit repeatedly causes others to underestimate his preparation. 11 14
