Before Li Wei lay a celestial body drifting soundlessly through the void, like a silent world of the dead.
It was the world engine of the Necrons from the Different World.
A world engine was, in itself, an artificial tomb world powered by a Star God sealed within a four-dimensional labyrinth. Any one of its casual planet-scale weapons could reduce all life on a celestial body to ashes.
One prematurely awakened world engine had once been discovered in the history of Terra Civilization. At the time, it was besieged by the Terra Imperial Navy and fifteen Space Marine Chapters. They sacrificed millions in Combat Strength, yet failed even to breach its outermost shield.
At the final moment of despair, the Astral Knights rammed their flagship headlong into the world engine. By forcibly prying open the shield in this mutually destructive manner, they deployed every surviving Space Marine into the world engine and overloaded its energy core. Only then did they barely manage to cripple it. In the end, that brutal battle concluded at the cost of the entire Astral Knights Chapter.
What did that mean? If those Space Marines, who had served for centuries in that brutal world, were placed on Coriel World, each of them would basically stand somewhere between Legendary and Demigod level!
For a world engine to require such exaggerated Combat Strength, and such a heroic method, merely to win by a narrow margin—it had practically entered the domain of "gods."
Because the energy core it used was itself a god—a fragment of a Star God.
The energy of a world engine with a Star God as its core was, theoretically, inexhaustible.
*Could Kaka mean for my Retainers to develop something like a world engine, in order to "seal" the fragment of that Star God deep beneath
