Inside the Research Lab, Bulma focused intently on operating the machine.
After all, the Time Machine was a product from an era far beyond theirs. With the technology they had now, charging it was not something she could afford to take lightly.
Jiang Ling waited quietly, careful not to disturb Bulma.
He'd even turned down Lazi Li's invitation to go shopping...
An hour later.
Bulma stretched her graceful body and turned to Jiang Ling. "It's ready. It'll be fully charged in another ten minutes."
"Thanks for all your hard work."
Jiang Ling tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and said with concern.
"It's no hardship. My life's just hard."
Bulma pinched the bridge of her nose and joked.
Work like this was second nature to her by now. Anyone could focus in front of a computer for an hour, and as a young scientist, she found it a breeze.
Unable to bear seeing her suffer, Jiang Ling took out a Senzu Bean...
Bulma quickly waved her hands and laughed. "I was only joking. I'll be fine after resting my eyes for a bit. Save the Senzu Bean—it's too precious..."
"Eat it!"
Jiang Ling's tone brooked no refusal.
He treated the women in his life well, but he was also rather chauvinistic—forceful, even.
People were strange like that.
Seeing his expression, Bulma smiled helplessly.
She'd been with Jiang Ling long enough to know what he was like.
So she took the Senzu Bean and ate it. In an instant, her energy returned, and all the fatigue that had built up over the past few days disappeared.
"Wow, that's incredible."
Bulma marveled at how full of energy she felt.
"Of course it is."
Jiang Ling's lips curled into a smile.
Beep—
The sound of the charging process finishing rang out, which meant the Time Machine was fully charged.
The two of them reacted at once.
Jiang Ling's face lit up.
Bulma, however, wore a wistful expression~
"Jiang Ling, are you going to take the Time Machine?"
Jiang Ling nodded, then smiled. "Come with me. We'll call it a trip!"
"Isn't that a bad idea? I'll only hold you back."
Bulma looked a little worried.
Her concern wasn't unfounded. She was still weak.
At that, Jiang Ling shook his head and said earnestly, "I promised you earlier that I wouldn't leave you behind, and that I'd make it up to you. But we're short on time, so you'll have to come with me."
"Jiang Ling, you're the best!"
"You bet!"
Jiang Ling called Lazi Li over and explained the situation.
Lazi Li nodded, saying it was fine. It'd be a nice chance for her to relax, anyway.
In the courtyard, Jiang Ling and Bulma sat inside the Time Machine and pressed the button...
Lazi Li watched as the Time Machine slowly rose into the air, then vanished in a flash.
She lowered her head and murmured, "It's probably good to let him spend some time alone with Bulma."
"Now I can hog the TV! Hahaha!"
Inside the Time Tunnel.
Bulma leaned against the transparent canopy and gazed out at the scenery in the Time Tunnel, her eyes shining.
For a scientist like her, this was utterly fascinating.
The cockpit was tiny, leaving Jiang Ling squeezed in behind Bulma.
Looking at her graceful back, Jiang Ling was sure he didn't want to get frisky right now, but his little brother wouldn't listen...
His hands moved on their own, wrapping around her waist from behind. His palms came to rest on her flat stomach.
"Bulma... I'm here to make it up to you..."
"Oh, Jiang Ling! Do you have to do that kind of thing everywhere? First out in the open in the courtyard, and now... Mmm..."
Jiang Ling's body was burning hot. He panted and spoke in an innocent tone. "I don't want to, either, but it won't listen to me..."
"Honestly, what am I going to do with you..." A blush rose to Bulma's cheeks.
Jiang Ling also found the right spot.
The Unknown Future Time-Space.
The sky was clear, with not a cloud in sight.
An eagle soared through the deep blue sky.
With the Androids gone, humanity had rebuilt its homes amid the ruins.
But Trunks, the hero who had destroyed the Evil Androids, hadn't appeared in a long time.
In the outskirts.
An oval-shaped machine appeared in midair and slowly descended to the ground.
Its glass canopy opened, and Jiang Ling and Bulma jumped out, curiously looking around.
"It doesn't seem all that different from before..."
"This is the outskirts, so it's not a good point of comparison. Let's go see West City..."
"Sure. I wonder how I'm doing in this time..."
Jiang Ling's senses swept across the globe, and his brow furrowed...
Apart from a few slightly stronger energy signatures—about the level of ordinary fighters at the Strongest Under Heaven Martial Arts Tournament—there were no strong fighters left on Earth.
Jiang Ling pondered for two seconds, then put an arm around Bulma's slender waist and flew into the sky.
Bulma had learned to fly long ago and could even fight to some extent.
But she was too weak to fly fast.
So Jiang Ling had to carry her, while also using a little of his energy to shield her, in case flying too fast hurt her.
Jiang Ling really had thought of everything!
The scenery raced past, and soon they arrived above West City.
Most of the area was in ruins, though a small section had begun to be rebuilt. After all, few humans remained, following the Evil Androids' rampage.
Even though the Androids had been dead for several years, restoring humanity to its former numbers wasn't something that could happen overnight...
"That's my home... but it looks like it's in ruins too..."
Bulma pointed to where her family's home had once stood, her brow furrowed.
"Yeah. Let's go have a look."
With that, Jiang Ling took her down to the area where her home had once stood.
The once-towering building had fallen into disrepair, its walls now bearing the weight of history.
Below it stood a brand-new, round little house, with a few flowers and plants growing around it...
"You in this time must be living there."
Jiang Ling and Bulma walked side by side to the little house's door.
He knocked.
"Hello... Is anyone there?"
