The night was deep, the moonlight like water, and Uchiha Rei walked out of Konohagakure alone, arriving at a secluded manor outside the village.
This was a residence of the Kurama Clan. Even though it wasn't in the center of Konoha, every inch of land revealed the heritage of a great clan.
Uchiha Rei stood at the manor gate, his gaze slightly heavy, and lamented inwardly: Even a declining prestigious family was far superior to most Chunin and Genin in Konohagakure.
"The status of ninjas has never relied solely on strength."
"It relies more on bloodline, on influence."
Inside the Kurama Estate at this moment, within the main house, two young girls were pacing nervously. They were the only surviving direct bloodlines of the Kurama Clan, Kurama Yakumo and her personal guard, her clan sister, Kurama Yui.
Candlelight flickered in the room, and a faint incense permeated the air. Yet, the two paid no mind to it, their brows filled with anxiety.
"Master... Master ordered us to find Uchiha Itachi within two days... but all our personnel from the Kurama Group have been dispatched, and we still have nothing," Kurama Yui said in a low voice, a hint of unease in her tone.
"Master's punishment..." Kurama Yakumo bit her lip, recalling the words of that person before they left.
"Rewards, or punishments, all depend on how well you complete it."
"I can accept all punishments..." Yui said softly, her cheeks flushing, her voice like a mosquito's, "As long as Master is willing to continue helping Lady Yakumo... even if it's..."
She trailed off, her voice growing lower, her cheeks becoming even redder.
Yakumo remained silent, but lowered her head, her fingertips gently fiddling with the hem of her clothes. She recalled that night, the moment the Master's breath drew close to her neck. If it weren't for the Master's intervention, she would have likely fallen victim to Illusionary Realm Backlash.
"He is Kurama's benefactor... no, he is already our new master," Yakumo thought to herself.
Just then, the door creaked open slightly, and a familiar figure quietly entered.
Uchiha Rei wore a mask. As soon as he entered the room, he saw the two young girls kneeling on the floor, their faces flushed, their eyes darting.
"...Great clans are indeed open-minded," he chuckled inwardly but did not speak.
Both women lowered their heads simultaneously, their expressions a mixture of shame and a certain subtle anticipation. They knew they had failed to complete their Master's task.
Punishment was inevitable.
Uchiha Rei frowned slightly, thinking, "The timing of my arrival is indeed not ideal."
But he did have matters that required the Kurama Clan's assistance on this trip and didn't intend to waste time.
Kurama Yakumo was the first to prostrate herself on the ground, her forehead touching the floor, her voice clear but trembling slightly: "The Kurama Clan has failed to fulfill Master's orders and is willing to accept punishment."
As she finished speaking, Uchiha Rei merely smiled faintly.
Rei had never expected them to actually find Uchiha Itachi. In fact, he had already secretly planted a Genjutsu mark on Itachi today. As long as Itachi remained within Konohagakure, he could sense his location at any time.
"What I want has never been the result," he said calmly. "I only look at the attitude."
The two young girls' expressions changed slightly upon hearing this. No punishment? Was that forgiveness, or...disfavor?
A hint of bitterness welled up in Yakumo's heart, while Yui showed a trace of indescribable disappointment. But no matter what, they both understood one thing.
The man before them was the last hope of the Kurama Clan, and also their irreversible master.
"Both of you, get up." Uchiha Rei waved his hand casually.
The two immediately knelt and sat up, respectfully not daring to look up.
"Yakumo, come here."
Yui's eyes flashed with complexity when she heard only Yakumo being called. Why not me? Why only her?
Yakumo dared not hesitate and slowly walked forward.
"Your hand."
Uchiha Rei's voice was calm, yet carried an irresistible pressure.
Yakumo trembled as she extended her hand. It was a slender, snow-white arm, her fingertips cool and slightly trembling. Uchiha Rei gently placed his hand on her wrist, and instantly, a stream of Green Chakra flowed from his fingertips into her meridians.
In an instant, a strange warmth flowed from his palm. Yakumo's body trembled slightly, her cheeks flushing like fire. The chakra was delicate and warm, yet it seemed to have a consciousness as it slowly roamed within her body, as if reading through her meridians, emotions, and even her heartbeat one by one.
Yakumo closed her eyes, her face growing even redder, but she didn't struggle, allowing the chakra to flow through her body like a stream.
Waves of Green Chakra silently traveled along her slender body, as if weaving a thin veil of spiritual light on her skin.
She closed her eyes slightly, seeming to feel the gentle power repairing something, and awakening long-dormant parts of her body.
"A very strange physique..." Uchiha Rei murmured softly. He activated his Byakugan again, his gaze passing through skin and flesh, directly seeing through her meridians.
It was an abnormally simplified meridian structure. Unlike the usual three hundred and sixty main and collateral meridians in ordinary people, Kurama Yakumo's body seemed to be missing more than half of the conduits, like a incomplete system forced to operate at the most basic level.
He had once thought it was just due to congenital weakness, but after several observations, he began to suspect it was a hereditary defect.
Even, a special "Blood Disease."
It was precisely because of this that her control over chakra was so difficult. Forcing her to train as a ninja would instead cause backlash, and even lead to bodily collapse.
"Your body is not suited for the path of an ordinary ninja," Uchiha Rei said gravely.
As he spoke, in the vision of his Byakugan, Kurama Yakumo's graceful form appeared clearly, like a well-defined painting. However, he did not linger, even though it was a highly tempting sight. His gaze remained calm.
Uchiha Rei was not someone easily moved, no matter how beautiful the other person was.
What he cared about was the cause of the Kurama Clan's illness, and its possible connection to the Genjutsu Kekkei Genkai hidden behind it.
In Konoha, the one most knowledgeable about various bloodline diseases was naturally Orochimaru.
However, Orochimaru had already defected.
But every time he thought of that guy, Uchiha Rei couldn't suppress his anger.
That person still owed him a debt he hadn't collected. And now, Orochimaru had suddenly disappeared without a word.
He withdrew his gaze and looked at the young girl before him, whose clear features held a touch of sickly beauty. He spoke earnestly:
"Currently, there are three methods we can try to resolve your physical condition."
"The first is to change your body. By transferring your soul into a healthy body. However, this method comes at too great a cost and involves forbidden jutsu."
"The second is to strengthen yourself. Using surgical modification or secret jutsu modification to make your current body barely able to support Chakra circulation."
"The third is to inject a large amount of high-purity Chakra, allowing your body to naturally evolve under Chakra's healing capabilities."
After listening, Kurama Yakumo fell silent for a long time.
She lowered her head, her expression complex. "Lord, besides the first... I am willing to try the second and third methods."
Her voice was soft, even trembling slightly, but the determination within it made Uchiha Rei nod slightly.
"Understood."
He reached out and picked her up. Kurama Yakumo gasped, her body stiffening, but she did not resist.
"Next, I will formulate a personalized treatment plan for you. Several in-depth examinations are required first."
He led her into a secret room deep within the house. Before closing the door, he said only one sentence:
"Don't be nervous. Relax and cooperate with me."
The room fell silent. Outside, Kurama Yui could only hear the faint sounds of water and the humming of Chakra flow. Time seemed to freeze until, much later, the door finally opened again.
Kurama Yakumo slowly walked out, her face flushed, her eyes slightly red. She walked to the side and sat down without a word, head bowed. She was still dressed neatly, but the unconcealable shyness had already betrayed the turbulent emotions within her.
Yui was slightly stunned and worriedly thought of stepping forward to ask, but saw Yakumo gently shake her head, her cheeks turning even redder.
Uchiha Rei's Chakra was low at the moment, so he hadn't injected any Chakra into her.
He had only completed the basic examinations.
"I will bring the treatment plan in ten days. Prepare yourself then," he said.
Kurama Yakumo nodded vigorously.
She understood that although Lord spoke of it lightly, these matters were a life-changing kindness to her.
"Then, Lord..." Kurama Yakumo hesitated for a moment, then suddenly mustered her courage and asked, "You have done so much for us of the Kurama Clan, how can we repay you?"
Uchiha Rei paused slightly.
He looked at them, his gaze deep. "Konoha's situation is becoming more chaotic. If you hear of strangers appearing in the village, notify me immediately."
"But... how should we contact you?"
Uchiha Rei pondered for a moment, forming a hand seal.
A wisp of Flames materialized out of thin air, spinning into a ring between his fingers before slowly condensing into two dark red rings. He handed the rings to the two women.
"Just activate the rings, and I will be able to sense your coordinates."
As his voice faded, his figure gradually dissipated into the air, vanishing without a sound.
A long time later, Yakumo looked at the ring in her hand, a blush still lingering on her face.
"He... he's truly too good to us..." she said softly, her voice tinged with shyness and sweetness.
Yui also looked at her ring, her gaze distant. She parted her lips, but in the end, only murmured softly:
"For a man like this, we can only... offer ourselves to him."
