Uchiha Obito left Root alone, his footsteps never stopping as he headed directly to the Uchiha Clan Compound.
The night was deep, the starlight obscured by clouds, casting a dim, lusterless glow upon the Uchiha district, which was desolate and quiet.
Obito's figure moved through the shadows without the slightest hesitation. His target was clear.
Five days later, the day the butcher's blade would fall. And now, Uchiha Itachi's loss of control had filled Obito's entire plan with uncertainty. Without Itachi as an inside man, his understanding of the Uchiha's internal layout and defenses was far from what it used to be.
"I must find someone to replace him."
The intelligence provided by Root was, after all, limited. If he wanted to strike a fatal blow in the clan extermination operation, he needed to find a suitable inside man within the Uchiha Clan again.
Someone who could access core intelligence and was easy to control.
Obito knew very well that he was the mastermind behind this operation. Any mistake could lead to the entire plan failing.
Fortunately, he had been prepared. Yesterday, he had already appeared at the clan meeting as "Uchiha Madara." He had only spoken a few words, and those foolish clan members had believed him, even hailing him as a savior.
"They believe me too easily, too eager for a hero to lead them against the Konoha higher-ups," Obito sneered. If he appeared once more, he could easily pick an ideal pawn among them.
And he soon found his target.
Uchiha Rekka.
A rare elite Jonin in the clan, he had not awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan, but with his excellent Taijutsu and Ninjutsu, he was second only to Uchiha Itachi in the clan.
However, due to his relationship with Itachi, Rekka had never been truly valued by the clan. He had long been excluded from the core, feeling dejected and unfulfilled.
"This kind of person is easiest to control," Obito chuckled inwardly, entering the depths of the clan compound like a ghost.
Before long, Obito quietly arrived at Uchiha Rekka's residence.
It was secluded and quiet, a result of Rekka's early marginalization within the clan. Now, it conveniently served Obito's infiltration.
At this moment, Uchiha Rekka was sitting on the tatami, his brows slightly furrowed, his expression solemn.
Since Uchiha Itachi's defection, the clan's higher-ups had been in a panic, and Root had been probing frequently. He had been granted certain permissions again, but he knew this was merely a temporary fill-in.
What made him truly feel important was the man who had recently appeared, Uchiha Rei. That adult, however, made him genuinely convinced.
Rei had told him that the clan's true enemy was not Itachi on the surface, but the shadowy figures hidden between the Konoha higher-ups and the Akatsuki Organization.
And his first task was to find out.
When the clan extermination plan would be launched.
"How should I approach Root... or should I start with the Akatsuki first?"
As he was pondering, a spatial fluctuation abruptly tore through the silence of the night, as if a rift had opened in the air.
"Who?" Rekka suddenly stood up, drawing the katana placed beside him with his backhand. His Sharingan instantly activated, and he vigilantly stared at the source of the fluctuation.
Uchiha Obito appeared silently in Uchiha Rekka's room. Accompanied by a slight spatial distortion, his figure abruptly materialized indoors, like a ghost emerging from the shadows.
He made no attempt to conceal his intentions, nor did he deliberately suppress his Chakra fluctuations, as if he had never worried about being detected.
Throughout the entire Uchiha Clan, he operated under the name "Uchiha Madara," that ancient figure who once struck fear into the Ninja World, regarded as the clan's spiritual totem. Most clan members still believed in this fabricated "ancestor," seeing him as the sole hope for saving the Uchiha, worshipping him without the slightest doubt.
Even if someone accidentally sensed that his identity was problematic, they dared not speak up. After all, this was a mysterious entity capable of freely traversing space and controlling the Nine-Tails.
Even more absurdly, a portion of the clan's higher-ups now intended to rely on the power of this "Lord Madara" to confront Konoha's leadership. They saw Obito as a banner of resistance against oppression, yet never truly grasped the essence of that banner.
However, after the exchange of information with Uchiha Rei during the day, Uchiha Rekka had become perfectly clear about the truth.
When Uchiha Rei revealed the true identity of the "Masked Man" to him, Rekka felt as if he had awakened from a long night.
It turned out that the mysterious person who had been pulling strings from the shadows for years was none other than Uchiha Obito, once known as the "Dead Last" at the Konoha Ninja Academy.
The past mysteries, the past reverence, vanished in an instant.
And now, this former Dead Last had the audacity to appear in his room so brazenly, without even employing basic stealth techniques, nor deliberately suppressing his aura fluctuations.
Uchiha Rekka watched him, his expression unchanged, but his eyes were filled with coldness and contempt.
Was this the so-called mastermind?
Had he forgotten the most basic ninja common sense?
If Rekka hadn't been neglected by the clan for so long, and his residence was remote and rarely visited, the spatial fluctuations alone caused by Uchiha Obito's appearance would have been enough to alert nearby clan members.
Although Uchiha Rekka felt immense contempt for Uchiha Obito in his heart, he showed no outward sign of it. Instead, he respectfully bowed with a solemn expression, his voice steady, "My Lord, you have come today. Do you have any important instructions?"
His tone was just right, devoid of any sarcasm or provocation, as if he were a truly loyal clan ninja awaiting his ancestor's commands.
Uchiha Obito looked at him, a flicker of smugness in his eyes beneath the mask, and slowly spoke, "This is a major event, concerning the future of the entire Uchiha."
He continued with his well-worn rhetoric, attempting to bring Rekka under his control with the same methods: "Uchiha Rekka, you understand, don't you? This world is terminally ill. Konoha's higher-ups merely see us as a threat and have never truly respected the Uchiha Clan. You are an elite ninja of Konoha, a Jonin of the Uchiha Clan, but has the clan ever truly looked at you?"
At this point, Obito's tone deepened, deliberately emphasizing his words, "You have always lived in Uchiha Itachi's shadow. No matter how hard you try, you are always 'second' to Itachi. Does such a clan deserve your continued loyalty?"
Uchiha Rekka sneered inwardly, almost unable to resist rolling his eyes. This guy was still using such childish rhetoric to try and control him? He was like an immature brat. If Itachi hadn't defected, this so-called "mastermind" probably wouldn't even remember his name.
But he showed no emotion on his face, instead feigning shock and asking in a low voice, "My Lord, you mean..."
"You don't need to be surprised," Uchiha Obito slowly took a step forward, speaking in a low voice. "This world is hypocritical and corrupt. We must overthrow it all—and reshape a true peace."
As he said this, his voice suddenly became profound, as if imbued with a magic that could bewitch the heart: "We will use Uchiha blood to cleanse this land and pave the way for a true New World."
On the surface, Uchiha Rekka appeared bewildered, as if lost in thought, but inwardly, he was almost laughing out loud.
"He's truly gone mad."
Uchiha Rei had already told him about Uchiha Obito's true plan, the so-called "Moon Eye," which aimed to plunge the entire world into illusion. Yet, the person before him was now so easily revealing the plan.
"Someone like this has actually become the 'hope' of the clan?" Uchiha Rekka sneered inwardly. "No wonder so many people were deceived by him, even some clan elders were willing to follow him... So, it's all thanks to these chuunibyou-like pronouncements."
Obito watched Rekka's pensive expression, mistaking it for his words having an effect, and grew more confident.
"I have a plan," he suddenly stated directly, his voice turning cold. "The first step of the plan is to use the blood of the Evil Uchiha to cleanse the entirety of Konoha."
Uchiha Rekka's eyes sharpened, and he asked in a deep voice, "You... you want to eliminate the entire clan?"
"No, it's purification," Obito replied in a low voice, as if stating something self-evident. "The evil Uchiha will be purged, and the truly bright Uchiha, who understand peace, will be reborn in the Dreamscape... They will be grateful to us."
"Dreamscape?" Uchiha Rekka softly repeated, a cold glint flashing in his eyes before he quickly concealed it. He slowly nodded, his voice steady. "I understand, Lord."
Obito gazed at him, his tone softening slightly. "I know you have ambition and strength... If you cooperate well, I can grant you special permission to join us. Then, there will be a place for you in the New World."
Uchiha Rekka calmly asked, "What do I need to do?"
"Tell me everything you know about the clan's arrangements, without missing a single detail," Uchiha Obito's voice was low, his tone carrying an undeniable pressure.
"On the Night of the Plan, you must assist me in controlling the key nodes within the clan."
He paused, his voice dropping slightly, but with a chilling coldness.
"I will arrange for people from the organization to come and handle the remaining obstacles... the old, the weak, the sick, the useless, all must be purged. The rebirth of the Uchiha must come at the cost of absolute purity."
Rekka lowered his head, his tone respectful. "Understood, Lord."
"Very good," Obito seemed to nod with satisfaction. "In five days, the operation will begin. I will contact you at any time."
"Yes." Uchiha Rekka bowed again, watching Uchiha Obito's figure disappear once more into the spatial distortion, vanishing into the void.
The area outside the door returned to silence, but only Rekka remained in the room. He slowly straightened his body, the respect on his face dissipating.
"Five days..." A slight smile touched his lips. "Thank you very much, Lord Dead Last."
He had already imprinted the intelligence into his mind, word for word. The time Uchiha Rei needed, the enemy's plan, everything was now under his control.
"The enemy is more foolish than we imagined," Uchiha Rekka thought to himself.
