Lu Jiuyuan had previously saved Jin Ping'er in a cave and carefully treated her wounds. His belief that Demon Sect members were still people left a lasting impression on her, and she later realized that she had fallen for him from the moment he woke in that cave and looked at her 23 35.

While the Qingyun Sect expedition travelled toward the Southern Border, Jin Ping'er waited in the forest specifically for Lu Jiuyuan. He introduced her to Lu Xueqi and Wen Min as a friend from the Demon Sect, rejecting the simple division of people into righteous and demonic paths 19.
