Background / History

Tang Hao was a Clear Sky Sect member whose actions led to the sect’s ruin and his subsequent departure. After kneeling before Tang Zhen’s grave, he left with the infant Tang San and hid in Holy Soul Village under the identity of an ordinary blacksmith. 10

In Holy Soul Village, Tang Hao became an alcoholic and neglected Tang San’s upbringing. Tang San was made to fetch water, chop firewood, cook, and wash clothes from a very young age. 11 He initially refused Old Jack’s request to let Tang San attend Nuoding Academy, stating that Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass was useless and that nobody would remain to cook for him. 11

Tang Hao’s attitude changed immediately when Tang San revealed his second martial soul, the Clear Sky Hammer. He embraced Tang San and told him to use the hammer in his left hand to protect the grass in his right. 11

In the White World, Tang Hao similarly rejected Tang Chuan’s Innate Full Soul Power Blue Silver Grass and attempted to stop him from attending Nuoding Academy. Tang Chuan instead left the blacksmith shop, became self-sufficient, and considered their father-son bond severed. 15 16

Tang Hao is commonly seen in tattered robes with an unkempt, disheveled appearance during his time in Holy Soul Village. 182

Personality

Tang Hao is proud, volatile, and deeply invested in his reputation as the Clear Sky Sect’s former foremost genius. Tang Chuan’s rapid mastery of Clear Sky Sect techniques and recognition as the sect’s hope devastate this self-image, leaving Tang Hao resentful and determined to seek godhood to prove his worth. 201 202

He repeatedly frames Tang Chuan’s independence as rebellion and unfilial behavior, despite his own neglectful treatment of him. When Tang Chuan refuses to surrender soul bones or return to the Clear Sky Sect, Tang Hao attempts to assert authority through his status and strength. 183 184

Toward Tang San, Tang Hao is considerably more protective. He rescues Tang San and Xiao Wu from Martial Soul Hall, trains Tang San in hammer techniques, and supports Tang San’s desire to grow strong enough to protect Xiao Wu. 140 162
