Background

Tang San was an orphan raised by the Bashu Tang Sect as an Outer Sect disciple. Resentful that he could not learn the sect's supreme techniques, he infiltrated the Library Pavilion and stole the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record. He learned its arts, forged hidden weapons, and created three inferior Buddha Fury Tang Lotuses before the theft was exposed. Cornered by the Sect Master and elders, he fled using Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track and ultimately jumped from a cliff. The Sect Master later defended him as the sect's greatest genius in nearly two centuries 2 3.

After arriving in Douluo Continent, Tang San was raised in Holy Soul Village by Tang Hao. Tang Hao neglected him severely, leaving him to perform household work from early childhood; Tang San nevertheless remained respectful and filial toward him. He secretly practiced the Mysterious Heaven Skill, Purple Demon Eye, and other Tang Sect arts 10 11.

At his martial soul awakening, Tang San manifested Blue Silver Grass and tested at Innate Full Soul Power. He secretly possessed a second martial soul, the Clear Sky Hammer. Tang Hao's attitude changed immediately once Tang San revealed the hammer, instructing him to use it to protect the grass in his right hand 11.

Tang San later became Yu Xiaogang's disciple after Yu inferred that he had a second martial soul. He accepted Yu's advice to develop Blue Silver Grass through beast-type soul rings, including the Datura Snake and Ghost Vine 21 24 27 45.

The Comparison Sky Screen establishes that Tang San is the soul of the former Bashu Tang Sect disciple occupying Ah Yin's original child's body. Tang Hao had already suspected soul possession after noticing the infant's abnormal behavior, while Ah Yin later explicitly rejects Tang San as the being who took her child's body 2 163.

Tang San disputes this interpretation, insisting that he reincarnated normally rather than possessing another person's body. Ah Yin's rejection remains a source of anger and grief for him as he continues pursuing the dual-god future shown by the screen 481.

Tang San places exceptional importance on filial piety, respect for teachers, and the reputation of being “pure and noble.” He remains devoted to Tang Hao despite his childhood neglect and repeatedly defends Yu Xiaogang's cultivation path, even when others challenge its value 11 14 50.

He is fiercely competitive with Tang Chuan. Tang Chuan's innovations, strength, appearance, and relationships repeatedly provoke Tang San's jealousy and anger; Tang San insists that his Tang Sect arts and eventual dual-god status will surpass his counterpart 50 185 225 323 338.

The Comparison Sky Screen also exposes contradictions in Tang San's conduct. His attitudes toward the Clear Sky Sect shift alongside his power: he initially accepts blame for Tang Hao's past, later demands concessions, and eventually forces the elders to accept his version of events after becoming strong enough to defeat them 169 377 378 379.

After returning from Sea God Island, Tang San covertly massacres the Spirit Hall Empire's soul master garrisons across six cities, intending to destabilize the empire rather than confronting its leadership directly 369 370.

Tang San also openly aligns himself with the interests of soul masters and the nobility. He defends noble land rents and objects to Tang Chuan's distribution of land to commoners, treating Tang Chuan's policies as an attack on the established order and his own future interests as Blue Hao King 405.

His willingness to use lethal force appears early. At Nuoding Academy, he prepares to kill the gatekeeper with a Sleeve Arrow after the man insults him and Old Jack, and also aims the weapon at Yu Xiaogang. In Slaughter City, his destruction of the city is publicly framed as justice, while the screen exposes his desire to prevent others from obtaining the same domain opportunity 20 164 166.

When confronted with the soul-manipulation revelations, Tang San initially accuses the Comparison Sky Screen of slander. After Tang Ya defects, his original-era self instead describes the sacrifice of his daughter and reputation as efforts made for the Tang Sect. On arriving at Nuoding Academy, Tang San prepares to kill the gatekeeper with a Sleeve Arrow and also threatens Yu Xiaogang before the latter becomes his teacher. At the academy, he meets Xiao Wu, loses their initial sparring match, and shares his new bedding with her in Dorm Seven 20 22 24.

Tang San kills the Datura Snake and saves Yu Xiaogang from its venom. He later registers as a level-thirteen Soul Master at the Nuoding Martial Soul Branch Hall, declines Ma Xiunuo's offer to join Martial Soul Hall, and earns money through blacksmithing while continuing his cultivation 27 44.

Shrek Academy and Bloodline Awakening

Tang San joins Shrek Academy, receives Tang Hao's protection after their identities are exposed, trains for two years, and awakens the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline 56 162 163.

Although he presents the destruction as an act of justice, the Comparison Sky Screen reveals his desire to monopolize the domain opportunity. Afterward, he spends a year at Moonlight Pavilion under Tang Yuehua's instruction, learning etiquette and music to control his killing intent 166 167.

Tang Sect Expansion

Tang San establishes and expands the Tang Sect, recruits the Four Great Clans, acquires blacksmith Lou Gao, and commissions hidden weapons. His handling of Bai He's Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng becomes a major point of criticism 173 174 269.

Xiao Wu's Resurrection and Clear Sky Sect Return

Tang San begins Xiao Wu's resurrection at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, completing fifty percent of the Sea God's Eighth Trial. After becoming a Titled Douluo, he also resolves to restore Tang Hao's lost limbs and soul bones 376.

He then returns to the Clear Sky Sect with Tang Hao, Ah Yin, and Xiao Wu, defeats five elders, and compels the sect to accept Tang Hao's return and return his soul bones 377 378 379.

After Tang San's confrontation with the screen nearly brings disaster upon the God Realm, the God Realm Committee revokes his God King position and sentences him to one hundred years in the God Prison. The Gods of Gluttony and Envy imprison him, and he responds to Gluttony's humiliation with a vow of revenge 546.
