Lynch let out a breath, then opened the letter.

Calling it a letter was generous. It contained only one sentence: It's time for you to fulfill your promise.

The other party was evidently planning to carry out the descent of a god. They needed his help to make it happen, and this was payment for the Aurora Order helping him clear his name.

Lynch set the letter on fire. He had no intention of refusing. The matter had already been linked to the True Creator, and going back on his word now would be asking for death.

Besides, even if he didn't help with the descent, someone else would. If he got involved, he might even reduce the losses among the Nighthawks. If only he could keep Dunn from dying.
