Yu Xiaogang built his reputation around decades of martial soul theory despite being unable to advance beyond level 29 for most of his life. He developed a particularly rigid approach to plant-type martial souls, advocating animal-type soul rings and directing Blue Silver Grass toward poison and the control system. 3 5

Six years before the main Nuoding Academy events, he prevented Fu Shiyan from meeting Tang San after learning that Fu Shiyan possessed a Blue Silver Grass-lineage martial soul and had an interest in Tang San's innate full soul power. Yu Xiaogang declared Tang San his disciple and refused outside involvement. 5

In a simulated future, Tang San followed Yu Xiaogang's poison-focused ring path. The poison attributes were revealed to have polluted Tang San's Blue Silver Emperor bloodline and destroyed his chance of awakening it; Tang Hao subsequently crippled Yu Xiaogang's martial soul. Yu Xiaogang escaped and disclosed Tang Hao's location to Bibi Dong in exchange for refuge. 29

After Tang San instead became Fu Shiyan's registered disciple and Yu Xiaogang's theories were publicly dismantled, Yu Xiaogang left Nuoding City for Shrek Academy. There, Flender gave him the opportunity to mentor Mo Xuan. 34 35 89
