Born to the comparatively unremarkable Archibald family, Kayneth rose through exceptional talent, political intelligence, and social skill to become the El-Melloi faction's successor. His status as a once-in-a-century genius elevated the family within the Clock Tower's aristocratic bloc. 33 35

He served both as Lord of the Department of Mineralogy and as a first-class lecturer in the Department of Spiritual Evocation under his mentor, Yuri Phis. His academic expertise covers Spiritism, summoning, and alchemy, while his aristocratic standing made him a major political figure before the Holy Grail War. 4 46

Kayneth initially approached Rimuru Tempest as a potential political and academic connection, attempting to introduce a student from his family. After Rimuru mistakenly mentioned the name “Reines,” Kayneth later suggested that name for a newborn member of the Archizorte branch family. 4 14

Kayneth is a proud, sharp-featured magus with pale blue eyes and distinctive lemon-shaped hair. He maintains an impeccably formal, upright presentation befitting a traditional aristocrat. 4 33

Despite his cutting remarks and traditionalist elitism, he is not merely an isolated academic. Kayneth is politically perceptive, tactful when cultivating alliances, and willing to cooperate temporarily with ideological rivals when it benefits El-Melloi. 33 51

As an instructor, he is rigorous and knowledgeable, answering academic questions without withholding information. However, his treatment of students is shaped by lineage and status; he remains fair in disputes, but has little concern for commoner students' interests. 8 24 69

His commitment to aristocratic honor persists even after his downfall. Although he distrusts Rimuru and clashes with him politically, he warns Rimuru about Emiya Kiritsugu's Origin Bullet for the sake of the Clock Tower's reputation. 168

Kayneth first appears as a Lord and professor within the Aristocratic faction. He attempts to build ties with Rimuru while protecting El-Melloi's position against Achelotte, Gaiusling, and other competing factions. 4 33 51

He recognizes Rimuru's political value and offers El-Melloi's support for Rimuru's rise to Lord, provided Rimuru does not replace another aristocratic family. This cooperation helps strengthen El-Melloi's footing within the aristocratic bloc. 51 122

Kayneth later acquires the Department of Archaeology through concessions, while Rimuru becomes a first-class lecturer in the Department of Mineralogy. 127

Cornwall Dead Apostle Conflict

During the Cornwall operation, Kayneth leads El-Melloi magi in establishing workshops and coordinating the front. Learning that Rimuru may have encountered Primate Murder, he agrees to join the rescue effort. 46

His Spiritism, summoning, and Volumen Hydrargyrum are considered especially suited to confronting nonhuman threats. He later joins Gaiusling and Barthomeloi in attacking Dead Apostle commander Kael. 46 65

Fourth Holy Grail War

Kayneth enters the war as Berserker's Master, with Diarmuid Ua Duibhne presented publicly as Lancer. He uses a Command Spell to trigger Madness Enhancement and gain an advantage against Saber. 137

His traditional magus tactics are repeatedly disrupted by Emiya Kiritsugu's technological warfare. Volumen Hydrargyrum protects him from an armor-piercing shot, but Kiritsugu's Origin Bullet severely damages his Magic Circuits. 144 158 163

After being crippled, Kayneth loses his Command Spells to Sola-Ui. Kiritsugu subsequently forces him to order Berserker's suicide through a Self-Geas Scroll, ending his Servant's participation in the war. 163 171

Downfall and Resignation

Rimuru saves Kayneth but uses his vulnerability to secure a contract and extract his hidden wealth, magecraft formulas, patents, and undisclosed research. 171 172

News of Kayneth's apparent demise destabilizes the Clock Tower. At the later emergency Lord Council, he confirms that he can no longer cast magecraft and voluntarily resigns as Lord, leaving El-Melloi without an obvious direct successor. 183 189

Although the El-Melloi faction declines afterward, Rimuru's support and Kayneth's survival prevent it from collapsing entirely; it retains ninth place among the Clock Tower's factions. 204
