Background / History

Rimuru summoned Saber years before the Holy Grail War by using Avalon, her lost scabbard, as a catalyst and forming a contract with her through a damaged Command Spell. Although she was unsettled by his phantasmal aura and the pity in his gaze, she accepted her duty as his Servant. 62

When Saber touched Avalon, its power returned and it became a fully awakened Noble Phantasm. She invoked its True Name to purge Rimuru's vampire curse, then left the scabbard in his possession for his protection. 62

Because an openly manifested Heroic Spirit would draw attention at the Clock Tower, Rimuru arranged a puppet vessel for her through Aozaki Touko. The finished doll was physically indistinguishable from Saber and capable of simulating human tissue; Saber later revealed her spiritual nature by separating from and repairing its severed arm. 63 73 86

Her relationship with Rimuru deteriorated after she learned that he was the White Knight and a guardian of the King of Dead Apostles. Saber could not accept his alliance with the Dead Apostles, while Rimuru sought to force her to confront her self-denial and alter her wish for the Grail. 66 84 85

Rimuru ultimately compelled Saber to fight Sasha, intending to end their contract whether Saber won or lost. Saber defeated Sasha despite refusing Rimuru's mana, then departed their relationship on unresolved terms. 87 88

Rimuru later returned Avalon to the Einzbern family and deliberately enabled Saber's summoning in the Holy Grail War. She was summoned by Emiya Kiritsugu, who used the scabbard as a catalyst. 79 80 130 152
