Background / History
Altrouge is the Ninth Dead Apostle Ancestor and the Black Princess. Although she possesses the title of King of Dead Apostles, she initially lacks the large faction and political influence held by the White Winged Duke. Her principal supporters are the Black Knight Sturt, the White Knight Brad, Fou, and the Thirteenth Ancestor Zepia Eltnam. 18 38
She is a mixed-blood being with both Dead Apostle and True Ancestor lineage, described as a failed product in contrast to her younger sister, Arcueid Brunestud, who inherited Crimson Moon’s power more completely. Altrouge does not possess Marble Phantasm, but her mixed heritage grants her a distinct power and immense magical capacity. Her insecurity over being “defective” and her comparison with Arcueid remain major sources of resentment. 37 82
After meeting Rimuru in Germany, Altrouge becomes intrigued by his knowledge, decisiveness, and ability to replicate or erode powers through combat. She attempts to recruit him, pursues him through Brad, and later accepts an alliance in which he enters her faction in exchange for protection and help suppressing Brad’s curse. 18 20 27
Under Rimuru’s political direction, Altrouge publicly claims Cornwall as her territory and begins pursuing a sanctuary and legitimate status for Dead Apostles. At the Dead Apostle Resolution, Rimuru argues that she—not the White Winged Duke—should inherit the role of king for any future Dead Apostle kingdom. 30 32 39
Appearance
Altrouge normally presents herself as a small, youthful girl who can float in mid-air. When she releases her sealed power, her body becomes that of a tall, mature woman. 18 52
- Blood-red or scarlet eyes, which become prominent when she exerts her power. 20 53
- A sealed, youthful form perceived as roughly fourteen years old. 18
- Second-stage form: barefoot, tall, and mature, with waist-length hair. 52
- Crimson bat wings and blood-red hair when manifesting her True Ancestor aura beneath the blood moon. 53 56
- Can form weapons, claws, wings, mist, spears, and familiars directly from blood. 52 53 118
Personality
Altrouge is playful, mischievous, and easily amused by provocation. Her first interactions with Rimuru are marked by teasing, curiosity, and a willingness to watch him struggle against her knights. She is also extremely dangerous when angered, massacring seventeen Executors in less than two seconds after one calls her the Black Princess. 18 19 20
Despite her royal title, she begins with little interest in administration, influence, or long-term political planning. Rimuru gradually teaches her to treat Cornwall, Austria, and Dead Apostle protection as matters of leadership rather than mere personal disputes. She comes to value the idea of a sanctuary for her people, even if she remains uncomfortable with the duties of a queen. 31 32 193
She is willful, restless, proud, and fond of causing trouble. Her pride conceals insecurity toward Arcueid and concern that she is an inferior or defective creation. She often attempts to maintain a dignified ruler’s image, but becomes visibly flustered when Rimuru praises, ignores, or flirts with her. 82 193
Her second-stage transformation makes her notably more assertive and forceful. In battle, she refuses to be treated as someone who requires protection and insists on demonstrating the authority of the Black Princess herself. 52 53
Abilities & Skills
Blood Manipulation
As the ruler of blood and contracts, Altrouge can freely shape and command blood on a large scale. 20 28
- Condenses blood into blades, twin blades, claws, spears, bat wings, and scouting familiars. 52 53 118
- Creates massive blood-needle storms capable of piercing a castle, eroding magecraft circles, and ravaging defenders across a battlefield. 28
- Redirects spilled blood with a gesture, preventing it from scattering. 119
- Can provide her blood to suppress Rimuru’s Blood-Sucking Impulse; prolonged access to her blood is implied to grant significant power. 27
- Her blood-based fighting is constrained by available reserves: prolonged combat without a blood supply depletes her magical energy. 64
Mystic Eyes of Enchantment
Altrouge possesses charm-type Mystic Eyes inherited from the same lineage as Arcueid’s. 56
- Can bewitch, brainwash, control, and erase memories. 56
- Requires eye contact for effective activation. 57
- Can briefly blank an opponent’s mind even when the effect is weakened by magic resistance. 56 57
- Used to halt Narbareck for the instant needed to survive a vacuum-magecraft attack. 57
True Ancestor Aura and Second-Stage Release
Altrouge can release a sealed portion of her mixed-blood power, greatly changing both her appearance and combat presence. 37 52
- Her aura can pressure nearby Dead Apostles and turn the surroundings deep red beneath a blood moon. 36
- Can manifest a blood moon, fangs, crimson mist, and an intensified predatory presence. 56
- Her power is sufficient to fight Barthomeloi and Narbareck simultaneously, though such a battle drains her without replenishment. 52 64
- While she can contend with Arcueid when the White Princess is not fully liberated, Altrouge is acknowledged to be inferior to Arcueid at full power. 37 193
Mobility and Combat
Altrouge is capable of abrupt repositioning and high-speed aerial combat. 19 53
- Instantly swaps positions with Sturt to evade an attack. 19
- Flies and attacks at high speed using blood-formed bat wings. 53
- Fights with blood-forged blades, claws, crimson slashes, and wide-area blood attacks. 52 53
- Her clash with the White Winged Duke lasted three days and three nights before outside mediation ended it. 23 52
Relationships

- Arcueid Brunestud — Younger sister and rival. Altrouge’s pride and inferiority complex are closely tied to Arcueid’s status as Crimson Moon’s more perfect heir. 82 117 193
- Sturt, the Black Knight — Her personal guard and commander of her trusted forces. He is loyal to Altrouge but distrusts Rimuru’s influence over her. 20 32 72
- Brad, the White Knight — Former White Knight dispatched by Altrouge to capture Rimuru. She warns Brad not to touch Rimuru during the pursuit. 20

- Barthomeloi — A powerful enemy she battles during the Cornwall conflict. Their fight becomes a contest of endurance due to neither side being able to decisively defeat the other. 52 64

Trivia
- Altrouge’s initial entourage at the Grand Resolution consists only of the Black Knight, the White Knight, and Fou, contrasting sharply with the White Winged Duke’s large administrative retinue. 36
- She keeps much of her power sealed because she dislikes the Crimson Moon-like appearance and inheritance associated with it. 37
- Her transformed state affects not only her power and body, but also makes her more direct, assertive, and flirtatious. 53
