Nature and Awakening

Every person possesses a Martial Soul. Its strength, together with the level of innate soul power revealed at awakening, determines the wielder's potential as a Spirit Master. 1

Martial Souls are generally inherited from one's parents. Su Wen's parents possessed the Soul-Snatching Umbrella and a life-absorbing, healing red flower; his own Martial Soul incorporated traits resembling both while mutating into a new form. 1

An awakened Martial Soul can possess an evil, holy, elemental, beast, plant, tool, or other attribute. Evil-aligned Martial Souls are not inherently unprecedented: Bibi Dong notes that several powerful Spirit Hall members possess such attributes. 1

Innate Soul Power

Innate soul power is measured during the awakening ceremony with a crystal ball. Higher innate soul power indicates greater cultivation potential; Su Wen's crystal ball filled completely, revealing innate level ten soul power. 1

Innate Weapons

Some Martial Souls possess innate weapons: implements specially connected to the Martial Soul that cannot be separated from it and may be wielded freely. Such weapons are generally associated with exceptionally powerful Martial Souls. 1

Su Wen's Ghost Emperor of the Wedding Dress possesses two innate weapons:

• A red oil-paper umbrella covered in ancient incantations, with nine talisman-bearing banners around its edge. 1
• A blood-colored Other Shore Flower resembling a Higanbana. 1

Spirit Rings and Spirit Skills

Spirit Rings are absorbed to increase spirit power and grant Spirit Skills. Their age and power can greatly affect the difficulty of absorption; ten-thousand-year rings may inflict soul shock, while hundred-thousand-year rings carry overwhelming power and may be obtained through a Soul Beast's voluntary sacrifice. 52 126 222

A voluntary sacrifice does not have a fixed age requirement, but it requires a Soul Beast intelligent enough to understand its own spirit power and choose the process willingly. 126

Spirit Ring Configurations

Spirit Ring configurations are visible indicators of a Spirit Master's growth. Su Wen's rings developed from a yellow first ring and purple second ring to black third through fifth rings, then a red hundred-thousand-year sixth ring. 121 128 222

Martial Soul Avatar

Martial Soul Avatar is normally exclusive to Beast Martial Souls, but special-category Martial Souls may be exceptions. 11

Su Wen's attempt to use Martial Soul Avatar instead created a Martial Soul Guardian: a roughly 100-meter-tall Ghost Emperor that held him in its palms while ghostly souls circled its body. 11

The Guardian's ghostly souls can cause mental interference strong enough to affect Soul Grand Masters and possibly Soul Elders, but the manifestation continuously consumes the wielder's spirit power. 12

Domains

Domains are innate or acquired fields that alter the battlefield's conditions. Su Wen's Senluo Ghost Domain is an innate domain with the following documented effects:

• Initially covers a 100-meter radius. 1
• Increases Su Wen's attributes by 150% and weakens enemies by 20%. 1
• Expands by 100 meters and increases the wielder's attributes by 1% for every level gained. 1
• Prevents enemies within its range from activating stealth abilities. 1
• Creates a sea of blood filled with Other Shore Flowers and ghostly souls; the souls create mental interference, while affected plant life loses vitality. 13
• Reached a 300-meter radius during the search for the Blue Silver King. 13

Mutation and Evolution

Martial Souls can mutate from inherited forms. Su Wen's Ghost Emperor of the Wedding Dress is a mutation of traits associated with both of his parents' Martial Souls. 1

External treasures can also cause later evolution:

• Ye Yuan'er's Blazing Spirit Kite evolved into a Blazing Fire Phoenix after she consumed the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower. 4
• Dugu Yan's Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor mutated after consuming an Immortal Herb, doubling the effects of her existing Spirit Skills. 100
• Chrysanthemum Douluo's Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum was strengthened by an Immortal Herb, granting an indestructible body and significantly sharper petals. 177

Ghost Emperor of the Wedding Dress

The Ghost Emperor of the Wedding Dress manifested as a bride in blood-red ceremonial dress, with a red veil, pale skin, hazy blood-colored eyes, and crimson lips. Its aura contains darkness, resentment, baleful qi, malevolence, and destruction. 1

• It does not fear light or holy attributes. 1
• Its ghostly souls remain unaffected by sacred purification light. 98 99
• Its oil-paper umbrella contains sealed beings; the fall of its first rune released a Ghost Bride whose spirit power matched Su Wen's. 7
• At least five distinct Ghost Brides had appeared by Chapter 130. 130

Underworld Marriage

The Ghost Emperor's first Spirit Skill, Underworld Marriage, forcibly establishes a soul-marriage contract with a deceased creature. 3

• Requires Su Wen to stand within one meter of the corpse. 3
• Can affect deceased creatures regardless of race or conventional restrictions. 3
• The contracted being retains its memories and combat experience, temporarily manifests a physical body, and possesses spirit power equal to Su Wen's current level. 3
