Alex plunged headfirst into the water.
The underwater world and the land world where one normally breathed air were two completely different spaces.
Liquid pressed in densely from all around, clinging tightly and coldly to his skin. Water covered his ears, separated by a layer of pressure that muffled the sounds of the world. He could only faintly hear the shocked cries from people on the bridge at his jump, along with the continuous horns blaring in the distance because of the traffic jam.
Carried by the momentum of his fall, Alex plunged several meters deep into the water. Water covered the lenses of his eyes, and the entire underwater world seemed cut off from the rest of existence, displaying a clear and splendid beauty beneath the refracted sunlight.
His legs moved bonelessly like a pair of fish tails. Under deliberate control, his body activated its internal circulation function, allowing him to regulate his physical functions and hold his breath even longer than fish.
His gaze locked onto Al Swan's Ford Mercury, and his body swam toward it with the grace of a mermaid.
Al Swan's car had already sunk deep. Before long, the icy stimulation of the Missouri River jolted him awake from the dazed state caused by the impact. Choking out the suddenly submerged breath, his eyes bulged wide. His throat instinctively retched as he held tight to the last air in his lungs, kicking fiercely at the car door damaged by the roll.
When Alex swam nearby, he stopped just in time to see Al Swan kick off the car door. Al Swan struggled out from the driver's seat and saw Alex floating silently before him, expressionless, his eyes fixed on him without a trace of emotion.
