The underground base was brightly lit, as clear as day.

Alex sat upright before the computer, his face impassive, though a trace of confusion flickered in his eyes.

He had killed Al Swan.

This had not only shocked Barry; it had also shattered one of Alex's own inner principles.

Alex turned his head. The computer screen cast a faint blue glow across his face, bringing him a lonely sense of bewilderment. He looked at the black-rimmed glasses beside the computer, slowly reached out, picked them up, and put them on.

He had once believed he would always uphold the principle that those who killed would eventually be killed. That was why he had deliberately become Central City's superhero. Though much of it had been for his own benefit, there had also been a desire deep down to uphold justice.

This kind of superheroic justice was, perhaps, the romantic fantasy of every adult.

He had thought he would only strike against treacherous villains and those who committed countless crimes.

But he had never expected that he would even kill Al Swan. Al Swan clearly did not count as one of those evil villains. At the very least, he had never committed any great evil. During his time in the police department, he had cracked major cases many times, fought criminals repeatedly, protected Central City, and served its people.

If he were to be judged fairly, he could actually be considered a rather "just" police officer.

Perhaps he had committed great evil in secret...

The thought flashed through Alex's mind, but he immediately shook his head with a bitter smile, casting aside that self-deceiving idea.

But none of that could hide the fact that he had killed someone merely because that person knew his superhero identity. It was not because Al Swan
