Background / History
Beirut built the burial complex after stealing the Four Divine Beasts’ corpses from the Radiant Sovereign. He refined the White Tiger’s Wind Element Lesser Sovereign Spark to become a Sovereign and regarded his protection of their remains and clan as repayment for this debt 134 202.
When introducing the trials to Kolan, Beirut claimed to be a Sovereign’s envoy administering the Necropolis on his behalf. Kolan privately recognized that Beirut was the Sovereign himself 15.
The trials were intended to give inhabitants of Beirut’s homeland opportunities to grow stronger. Beirut deliberately avoided simply supplying enough resources to turn everyone into gods or Highgods, believing that such assistance would not produce genuine powerhouses 42.
Appearance
The tomb is an immense, approximately rectangular structure crowned by a diamond-shaped, pointed spire 19 134.
- Height: Nearly 20,000 meters 19.
- Base: Approximately 10,000 meters along each of its four sides 19.
- Wall reliefs: Each wall depicts one of the Four Divine Beasts—the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, or Black Tortoise 19.
- Interior: Floors contain distinct environments rather than ordinary burial chambers, including grasslands, ice mountains, oceans, deserts, and magma worlds 19 36 37 39 40.
Locations and Entrances
| Access point | Necropolis contents and characteristics |
|---|---|
| Forest of Darkness | Houses gods who died during the two great wars. Beirut describes its first opening as comparatively survivable for cautious participants 18 19. |
| North Sea island | Houses fallen gods from the two great wars. Reached through a Gate of Space on an island; its upper floors contain increasingly powerful deity-level opponents 19 36 37. |
| South Sea seabed | Contains the Four Divine Beasts’ corpses on the eighteenth floor. Its trials differ from the other necropolises and are especially dangerous 19 37 65. |
- The necropolises stand in separate planes reached through spatial gates; Kolan describes their environment as essentially equivalent to a Divine Plane 19 36 65.
- Beirut later takes Kelan and Qinghuo to the tomb within a plane he created, entering through a passage that appears near its pointed summit 134.
Entry and Trial Rules
Eligibility
- Saint Realm participants require both sufficient combat strength and the backing of a deity-level expert 18 33 202.
- The second tier of peak Saint Realm strength is treated as the minimum viable standard; weaker entrants are considered to be courting death 18 35.
- Eligibility is also subject to Beirut’s approval. Ernst and Desri are absent from the first expedition because of their Radiant Church affiliation and Beirut’s hostility toward the Radiant Sovereign 18.
- Kolan receives fifty admission slots and eventually permits Leo, Hannah, and three other family members to participate 35.
Schedule and Routes
- The Necropolis opens once every thousand years 15 42.
- Saint Realm experts enter first and explore for ten years; deity-level experts subsequently receive their own ten-year expedition 36.
- Humans use the left passage, while magical beasts use the right. In David’s expedition, survivors of the separate first four floors can meet on the fifth 36 202.
- Saint Realm entrants begin on the first floor; gods begin on the twelfth through a single shared passage 36 65.
- At the end of the allotted period, exit passages appear. Participants may remain on a comparatively safe floor rather than continue climbing 19 42 209.
Guardians and Environmental Restrictions
- Imprisoned opponents can earn freedom and an opportunity to explore the Necropolis themselves by killing challengers 40.
- Beirut monitors expeditions and can adjust rewards according to a participant’s performance 37 42.
- Undead cannot be summoned from the Undead Realm inside the Necropolis. Locally crafted undead remain usable, as demonstrated by Getlin and Kolan 19 21.
- The dense heaven-and-earth elemental energy makes the Necropolis a valuable cultivation site even for participants unable to advance further 23.
Floor Structure
Standard Upper-Floor Hierarchy
Beirut describes the following hierarchy during Kolan’s North Sea expedition, while explicitly noting that the South Sea Necropolis is different 37.
| Floor | Opponent level |
|---|---|
| 12 | Lowgods 37 |
| 13 | Median Gods 37 |
| 14 | Powerful Median Gods 37 |
| 15 | Ordinary Highgods 37 |
| 16 | Six-Star Fiend-level Highgods 37 |
| 17 | Seven-Star Fiend-level Highgods 37 |
| 18 | Prefecture Lord-level Highgods 37 |

Treasures and Rewards
| Location | Documented rewards |
|---|---|
| First ten floors | Artifacts, but no Godsparks 65. |
| Eleventh floor | Godsparks; obtaining them requires surviving the floor’s defenders 23 65 209. |
| North Sea — fourteenth-floor passage | Fifty Soul Gold Beads, one hundred Amethyst, and a Highgod soul-defending artifact 39. |
| North Sea — passage after the fifteenth-floor battle | Over a hundred Soul Gold Beads, a Death Highgod Godspark, and a complete skull-shaped Highgod soul-defense ring 41. |
| South Sea — reward for defeating Kailina | Five drops of Wind Sovereign’s Might, also called Overgod Power 66 78. |
| South Sea — entrance to the seventeenth floor | A Space Ring containing a damaged Soul-Defense Overgod Artifact 68. |
- Beirut increases Kolan’s reward to include a Highgod soul-defense artifact after observing his talent and restraint 42.
- The Four Divine Beasts’ preserved bodies are themselves research material: their physical strength is comparable to Overgod Artifacts 134.
Major Expeditions
Kolan’s First Trial
Kolan’s first expedition enters through the Forest of Darkness. After overcoming the first two floors, he eventually joins the other challengers against the eleventh-floor defenders. The attempt fails, forcing the survivors back to the tenth floor; seven human Saint-level experts and every participating Saint-level magical beast die during the expedition 18 19 23.
The survivors spend more than nine remaining years cultivating before Beirut ends the trial. Their losses also affect the outside world: within thirty years, some clans and factions deprived of their Saint-level protectors are destroyed 23 25.
North Sea Expedition
- Of 108 human Saints, 64 survive; of 28 Saint-level magical beasts, 14 survive 36.
- Hansen’s death prompts Kolan to attack the Nether Phoenix after the deity-level expedition begins 36.
- Kolan climbs through the upper floors but chooses not to challenge the sixteenth after exhausting substantial soul energy and divine power 37 38 39 40 42.
- The War God returns with two artifacts and additional treasures; the High Priest obtains three artifacts and other resources 42.
South Sea Expedition
- The opening is announced in Yulan Calendar year 10047 65.
- Linley achieves external godhood during the Saint Realm trial. Kolan gives him ten Soul Gold Beads to replenish his weakened soul 65.
- Kolan’s later deity-level expedition includes more than a hundred Lowgods and ten Midgods from his family alone 65.
- After defeating Kailina, Kolan initially retreats from Andrew’s superior material attacks. He later uses Overgod Power to secure Andrew’s surrender and proceeds toward the seventeenth floor 66 67 68.
Eighteenth-Floor Research
Kelan obtains Beirut’s permission to study the Four Divine Beasts’ remains, presenting his objective as research into Overgod Artifact-level physical strengthening. His concealed purpose is to investigate their Combined Innate Divine Ability 134.
Beirut accompanies Kelan and Qinghuo into the tomb and reveals the Azure Dragon corpse. Kelan subsequently studies the remains under surveillance, with later passages establishing a two-thousand-year research allowance 134 135 137.
David’s Expedition
- David joins the Saint Realm experts gathering at the Forest of Darkness entrance 202.
- The eleventh floor’s Abyss Blade Demons force the leading Saints to retreat and recover on the tenth floor 209.
- Beirut appears when the ten-year period expires, releases the participants, and personally congratulates David 209.
