Background / History

Kolan was originally trained in Necromancy by the level-nine necromancer Kless near the Forest of Darkness. Necromancy required an unusually strong and pure soul, and its practitioners were widely despised across the Yulan Continent. By Kless's death, Kolan had reached level seven and could protect himself. 16

Before openly revealing his Necromancy, Kolan worked at Yulan Magic Academy as a teacher and vice-principal. He had known the wind Saint Magus Dickeny for more than a century. 12

His Soul Mutation gave him exceptionally powerful spiritual energy, fused battle qi, and a Saint-level magical-beast-grade body. He subsequently trained as both a mage and warrior rather than accepting the usual physical limitations of a mage. 1 3

Kolan fought beside Baruch during the North Sea magical-beast tide, restraining the Nine-Headed Serpent Emperor while Baruch battled other Saint-level beasts. Kolan was severely wounded and fell into the Yulan River, but Baruch ultimately killed the emperor. 3

Personality

Kolan is intensely focused on cultivation, practical combat, and acquiring resources that can advance his understanding of the Life and Death Rules. He seeks dangerous opponents rather than relying only on sparring against undead under his command. 3 5

He is cautious around forces beyond his current level. He declines Hodan's invitation to leave for higher planes while still a Saint, recognizing that Saint-level experts are vulnerable there. 13

His treatment of opponents varies sharply. He spares Heru after defeating the ape through endurance, considering him a worthy sparring partner, but annihilates Getlin's soul and later subjects enemies such as Odin to cruel punishment. 5 19 37

Although feared for his ruthlessness, Kolan is described as kind and without much scheming. He supports people and factions he considers connected to him, including Baruch's descendants, his own clan, and selected subordinates. 38 60 61
