Geography

• The Netherworld has one vast continent surrounded by the Nether Sea. The Undead Holy Mountain divides its northern Undead Realm from the southern region commonly called the Netherworld 10 70.
• The Undead Realm has no prefectures and is primarily inhabited by undead below god-level. Undead who become gods generally travel south 70 226.
• The south contains 81 prefectures, each with ten cities and a Prefect. Deep within the Nether Sea, the Jiuyou Territory has 81 Lords whose positions parallel those of the Prefects 10 136.
• The Undead Holy Mountain and Nethergod Holy Mountain are the plane’s two teleportation points 10 70.

Death and the Undead

When people below god-level die without their souls being annihilated, their souls are drawn to the Netherworld and become undead. The undead grow stronger by devouring other undead souls; those who attain godhood regain memories of their former lives 6 132 223.

• The Undead Realm contains skeletons, zombies, ghosts, Black Knights, Corpse Demons, Liches, Bone Dragons, and other undead. Its armies regularly fight one another 222.
• Necromancers can project their consciousness into the Undead Realm as ghost fire, contract compatible undead, and summon them elsewhere 2 6.
• A soul that is completely annihilated cannot enter the Netherworld to become undead 19.

Society and Power

• Seven Overgods of the Death lineage are associated with control of the Netherworld, while Prefects usually administer its regions. Other lineages’ Overgods also reside there 136 223.
• Fiend Castles operate in every city. Those who pass a Fiend assessment are ranked from One-Star to Seven-Star; Fiends can enter cities without paying the usual Nether Stone fee 10.
• Nether Stones are the plane’s common currency. Its cities offer protection unavailable on the roads, where banditry and attacks are persistent dangers 10 227.
• The plane’s gravity is approximately one hundred times that of the Yulan Plane, and it strongly suppresses divine sense 223.

Notable Locations and Treasure

• Nether Mountain — The Netherworld’s tallest mountain and the Death Sovereign’s residence. Heaven and Earth Chains and hazardous mist zones make the search for its Nether Fruit deadly 76 251.
• Nether Fruit Tree — The true form of the Nether Overgod. Its fruit can bring about a period of cultivation insight 80 105.
• Heart of the Netherworld — A treasure formed when the plane was created. It records people who become undead, retaining each record until that undead is completely destroyed. Under the Death Sovereign’s control, it can be used to find particular undead; a user whose soul enters it can also observe any part of the Netherworld without being detected 132 136 258.
