Background / History

The life-recording fragment identifies Feilian's original name as Ji Mingqiu. He was born with seven toes in Two Realms Mountain during the Great Annihilation era, abandoned by his parents, and raised by a deer after divine abilities manifested naturally within him. He later abandoned that name and became known as Feilian. The fragment also records flaws in his cultivation and past deviations, information Feilian initially tries—and fails—to destroy. 425 426

By the time Chen Ye enters the Demon Sect's sphere, Feilian is one of its eighteen Lords. He conceals much of his expression beneath an antlered cap and is regarded as a formidable, deeply calculating demonic cultivator. 299 378

Feilian hunts Tiger Chang to obtain either a valuable treasure or Tiger Chang's soul as the principal soul of his Ten Thousand Soul Banner. Tiger Chang instead self-destructs, severely damaging Feilian's divine soul. Chen Ye's Heavenly Condemnation Art then continues to strike Feilian through their karmic connection, further obstructing his advancement. 385 387

To force his breakthrough, Feilian recruits Youluozi's subordinate Ye Chen, believing Ye Chen's reversed name and similar fate to Chen Ye can support a world-shaking judgment. He supplies Ye Chen with powerful souls and prophetic brocade pouches, intending to manipulate the conflict between Ye Chen, Chen Ye, and the Mirage Tower Sect into fulfilling his own verdicts. 387 388 390 414 418

After reaching the Dao Integration Realm, Feilian joins Youluozi in seeking the Abyss of Return's secrets. He becomes trapped there when Youluozi sacrifices herself to activate its restriction, leaving him to contend with intelligent sea beasts, the Black Hound, and the ancient treasury. 417 424

Within the treasury, Feilian acquires a jade belt and the life-recording fragment. The fragment's inability to reveal Chen Ye's history convinces him that Chen Ye is “beyond the Three Realms” and “not within the Five Elements,” fundamentally changing how cautiously he deals with him. 425 426 435

Feilian eventually escapes the Abyss of Return with Chen Ye's aid, though their cooperation remains tense. He is also remarkably adaptive under pressure. After Tiger Chang's self-destruction cripples him and Heavenly Condemnation lightning blocks his normal path forward, he changes strategy rather than abandoning his pursuit of Dao Integration. While trapped in the Abyss of Return, he studies its creatures, imitates a wyrm to pass the treasury guards, and prepares an escape formation while controlling sea beasts as distractions. 387 425 438

Despite his hostility toward Chen Ye, Feilian recognizes immediate dangers and can cooperate when survival requires it.
