Background

Six years before meeting Li Xuan, Bai Chuan challenged Sword Douluo Chen Xin while still a Soul Saint. He survived the encounter, even leaving a shallow wound on Sword Douluo's face, but lost an arm and suffered shattered meridians; the defeat left him mentally broken and without cultivation. 205 208

Li Xuan found him in a Star Luo City slave market and purchased him. Bai Chuan initially met Li Xuan's promise to heal him with mockery, but pledged his life in service should the treatment succeed. 205

Li Xuan used Enlightenment Tea to force Bai Chuan to confront the memory of his battle with Sword Douluo. Bai Chuan overcame his fear of facing the swordsman again, broke through his inner demons, and recovered his cultivation through the re-condensation of his soul rings. 208 209

Appearance

Bai Chuan was described as being in his forties or fifties when Li Xuan acquired him. He originally had one missing arm from his battle with Sword Douluo, but the hundred-thousand-year Gengjin Grass sacrifice restored it as a right-arm spirit bone. 208 209 233

He is fiercely loyal to Li Xuan and protective of Ladi Canyon. When Li Xuan considered recruiting the Speed Clan, Bai Chuan immediately considered eliminating Bai He if the clan leader became a danger, though he accepted Li Xuan's more patient approach. 219 220

Recruitment of the Speed Clan

Bai Chuan delivered Li Xuan's visiting card to the Speed Clan and investigated the clan's situation while Li Xuan negotiated with Bai He. He remained ready to act against Bai He if the patriarch proved dangerous, but ultimately assisted Li Xuan's successful recruitment of the clan. 219 220 222
