Background

Tang San is a transmigrator who possesses techniques and experience from the Tang Sect of another world. At six years old, he accompanies his teacher Yu Xiaogang into the Soul Hunting Forest to obtain his first spirit ring. When a Mandala Snake attacks, Tang San remains composed, circulates the Mysterious Heaven Skill, and kills it by driving a short sword into its brain. He then absorbs its 400-year spirit ring. 4

Soon afterward, Yao Xuan kills and devours Yu Xiaogang’s martial soul, Luo Sanpao. Tang San finds his teacher severely wounded, depleted of soul power, and poisoned. Using the Mysterious Heaven Skill and his poison knowledge, Tang San stabilizes Yu Xiaogang’s condition, though he cannot restore the teacher’s lost martial soul, soul power, or mutilated body. 10

Tang San pledges to remain loyal to Yu Xiaogang and vows to capture the Auspicious Beast responsible for his suffering. After learning the full extent of Yu Xiaogang’s injuries, he renews his promise to become strong enough to avenge him. 11

At Nuoding Academy, Tang San recognizes Yao Xuan’s Emperor Auspicious Beast Martial Soul as resembling the creature that harmed Yu Xiaogang and develops immediate hostility toward him. Yao Xuan subsequently drives a wedge between Tang San and Xiao Wu, who is persuaded to place a green hat on Tang San in public. 19 21 23

Tang San challenges Yao Xuan to a duel but is overwhelmingly outmatched. After his Blue Silver Entanglement fails, he resorts to a Hidden Arrow; Yao Xuan catches the projectile and exposes the ambush before the assembled students. Tang San refuses to kneel or concede despite severe injuries, ultimately losing consciousness beneath Yao Xuan’s foot. 23 25 26

Tang San is notably composed in danger. During the Mandala Snake attack, he avoids panic and immediately combines the Mysterious Heaven Skill with his swordsmanship to secure a killing blow. 4

He is deeply loyal to Yu Xiaogang, treating him according to the principle that “a teacher for a day is a father for life.” Tang San expends considerable effort to save his teacher, comforts him after the loss of his martial soul and soul power, and makes revenge against Yao Xuan his central motivation. 10 11 34
