Background / History
Hussein rose from a period when bloodline awakeners were ostracized and frequently forced into military service. Plock Tiff, then an influential military figure, recognized Hussein’s talent; the support he received was instrumental in the creation of the Shamsuddin Legion. 342
The legion began as a force of refugees and criminals, but Hussein led it from a third-rate cannon-fodder unit into a renowned frontline legion. His personal charisma and brutal battlefield style were central to that rise, though they also produced an exceptionally high casualty rate. 296
He later became both the head of Shamsuddin House and a major military commander. Hussein and Count Ioulaum were once comrades-in-arms, but their paths diverged when Ioulaum continued as an Arcanist while Hussein remained in the military. 67
Appearance
Hussein is built more like a barbarian than a conventional spellcaster: physically powerful, imposing, and visibly marked by his elemental bloodline. 67
- Deep crimson skin. 67
- Flame-like red hair that brightens or burns more fiercely when angered. 67 74
- Orange eyes with an oppressive, heat-like gaze. 67
- Can emit smoke, heat, and a gunpowder-like scent when his emotions or elemental power surge. 67 74 148
- Wears heavy armor in battle and carries a large two-handed greatsword. 74 195
Personality
Hussein is impulsive, loud, and easily provoked, particularly when Borne outsmarts him or Lisper places herself in danger. He often responds to frustration with threats, grumbling, or displays of heat and smoke, but these reactions coexist with sharp instincts and a practical military mind. 121 148 221
A self-made commander, Hussein prizes useful talent regardless of origin. He immediately recognized Borne’s value as both a mage and a businessman, repeatedly attempted to recruit him, and eventually entrusted him with broad authority over the Shamsuddin Legion. 72 151 222 223
Despite his ruthless approach to training and recruitment, Hussein refuses to reduce soldiers’ compensation payments even when the legion is desperate for funds. His concern for his troops, granddaughter, and Borne becomes increasingly apparent over time. 93 158 278 322
Abilities & Skills
Efreeti Bloodline
Hussein is an atavistic Genasi whose Fire Elemental Control has reached an extraordinary level. He primarily fights through innate bloodline abilities rather than conventional spellcasting. 334
- Fully activates his Efreeti bloodline to become a magma giant capable of holding back a giant snake during the False God incident. 176
- Enters half-elemental states in combat, with intensified heat, glowing skin, flame-like hair, and a burning greatsword. 73 74 173
- Possesses inherited memories, a trait associated with top-tier bloodlines. 185
- Cannot learn ordinary spells outside his innate abilities; he cannot even cast basic spells such as Ray of Frost. 334
Martial Combat
Although he possesses immense mana, Hussein favors direct melee combat and is regarded as a top-tier high-rank warrior. 173 185
- Uses a two-handed greatsword and combat techniques including [Rage Slash] and [Cleave]. 173 185
- Rapidly kills Corrupted Ones, demons, and pseudo-high-rank combatants in close quarters. 73 173 185
- His elemental form is powerful enough to terrify enemies and contest major battlefield threats. 173 176
Military Command
Hussein is a battle-tested commander whose forces obey orders with strict discipline even amid sudden danger. 73
- Ordered an immediate three-hundred-meter retreat after detecting a dangerous evil aura, minimizing further losses. 73
- Developed the War Mage profession over ten years, investing much of the legion’s reserves into combining magic and warfare. 99
- Historically trained recruits through real combat, using repeated battles to filter survivors into veterans and elites. 228 235
- Recognized the flaws of this approach after the legion’s spellcaster casualty rate became the military’s highest. 223
Perception and Political Judgment
Hussein is more perceptive than his rough manner suggests.
- Identified the suspicious uniformity and mass-production potential of the Lehman Trading Company’s spell potions almost immediately. 148 149
- Used Master Hill’s public claim of responsibility for the potions as a protective explanation that discouraged others from investigating. 148 149
- Warned Borne not to demonstrate large-scale spatial magic in Seventon, citing the disappearances and deaths surrounding prior spatial-magic researchers. 322
- Understands the strategic value of new techniques and seeks to adapt useful discoveries for military use. 93
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Two-handed greatsword — Hussein’s primary melee weapon; it has been damaged by evil contamination in battle. 74
- Heavy armor — worn when confronting Borne after the creation of the spatial gate. 195
- Legion commander’s seal and token — used to delegate extensive operational authority to Borne within the Shamsuddin Legion. 222 223
Relationships
- Borne Ioulaum — Initially a talent Hussein wants to recruit for the Shamsuddin Legion; their relationship develops into mutual trust, frequent banter, and battlefield cooperation. Hussein later treats Borne with paternal concern and entrusts him with major authority. 72 151 172 222 277 322
- Count Ioulaum — Former comrade-in-arms and longtime friend. Their differing paths as soldier and Arcanist do not prevent them from cooperating on military and political matters. 67 72 93
- Lisper — Hussein’s youngest granddaughter. He is deeply protective of her, objects to her dangerous decisions, and is especially irritated by her closeness to Borne. 67 158 221
- Master Hill — An old Elf who aided Hussein in the past by giving him a potion during his youth. Hussein remains sincerely grateful and treats Hill with respect. 148
- Plock Tiff — Hussein’s military benefactor, who recognized his talent when bloodline awakeners were marginalized and helped set him on the path that led to the Shamsuddin Legion. 342
- Gordon Ioulaum — Works alongside Hussein in Enorok City’s military and construction efforts after the Shamsuddin Legion comes under the city’s banner. 296
