Background / History

Li Dalong was born a slave and was once called Agou. As a child, he was taken by the future Pavilion Master of Tingfeng Martial Pavilion, a slave trader who sold children with good aptitude to sects and exploited those with poor aptitude. He escaped, lost his family, and spent decades burying both his identity and his hatred. 43

After escaping slavery, he became a hunter. Xu Cuihua remembered him as a sturdy, dark-skinned, unkempt but honest man who worked tirelessly because he believed his slave origins and lowly profession prevented him from giving her a better life. 26 Li Xiang later bestowed the Qi Refiner Cultivation Manual upon him, giving the twenty-year-old Dalong a path to survive and build the Li Family. 2

Dalong and Cuihua settled into farming, weaving, cultivation, and child-rearing. Their first son, Li Yaozu, was born in the fifth year; Dalong celebrated the birth before the ancestral altar. 3 He protected the household through drought and bandit attacks, initially showing mercy to defeated bandits before learning that leaving threats alive could endanger his family. 3 4

In his fifteenth year of family life, Dalong rescued a child from being trampled in Changlin Town. After refusing recruitment by the Hu Family, he was severely injured by an eighth-level Qi Refiner sent by Hu Wei; Li Xiang saved his life through an ancestral blessing. 6

Forty-nine years after escaping, Dalong confronted the Tingfeng Pavilion Master. He revealed his former name, crippled the man who had trafficked children, and personally ended him. Releasing the hatred he had suppressed for the family’s sake transformed his Vigorous Striving trait into Achieve Greatness and brought him to Foundation Establishment middle stage. 43

Appearance

Li Dalong began as a sturdy but rough-looking hunter, dark-skinned and unkempt from his life of labor. 26 After reaching Foundation Establishment at age 51, his graying hair turned black, his wrinkles vanished, and he appeared to be a resolute man in his thirties. 22

He led the Li Family from a drought-stricken rural household into a major cultivation clan through a single cultivation manual and relentless work. 26 44

He can be compassionate toward ordinary people and deeply attentive to family needs, but he is uncompromising toward those who threaten his clan. He prepared years ahead for the possibility that Qingyun would need to resist the Witch Tribe again, gathering capable people before knowing whether he himself would survive. 171 When Long Sun’s major powers attempted to claim the Li Family’s spoils after refusing to oppose Tian Xing, Dalong publicly rejected their moral posturing with violence. 274 275
