Cyril swept his gaze around the table, then rose from his seat and bowed to the figure shrouded in gray fog at the head of the table.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Fool."
The Fool, Klein, gave a slight nod, then asked directly, "Where did you go earlier?"
When he'd heard Cyril's prayer, he'd been dealing with an issue involving the Sun, Derrick. By the time he'd resolved it, he'd found he could no longer contact Cyril.
For a moment, he'd nearly thought that his delayed response had caused the Tarot Club to lose its first member. He'd been filled with guilt and self-reproach.
Fortunately, divination later revealed that Cyril was still alive, though trapped in some kind of predicament.
After that, he'd stayed above the Gray Fog, keeping an eye on the crimson star that represented Cyril. Before long, the star, which had been dimmed to gray and white, lit up again. Klein had responded and tried to contact him at once.
Faced with the Fool's direct question, Cyril hesitated briefly, then decided to tell him everything.
"I was in Adam's Bone Church. It may be the embryonic form of a divine kingdom. It's very strange, and can isolate the Astral World from the Spirit World."
"Adam and Amon fought there—or perhaps they were testing each other. In the end, they reached some kind of understanding. Amon left, and he won't return to Backlund anytime soon."
"But this could also be a deception—false information being passed to you through me."
...There was an Amon in Backlund too?!
Klein was so surprised that he failed to keep his expression in check. Fortunately, the gray fog concealed him, so Cyril didn't notice anything amiss.
He took a deep breath, suppressing his scattered thoughts and his quickening heartbeat, then reconsidered the matter of Amon.
