His Faceless potion remains incompletely digested during his early maritime adventures 290 308 312 343.

Background

Klein first operates from the ancient palace above the gray fog, where he answers prayers directed to The Fool. When a reckless occultist invokes several honorific names in one ritual, Klein observes the prayer but realizes that a high-ranking priest answering to “Adam” is responsible for the response, not himself 3.

Before establishing direct contact, Klein repeatedly thinks about the reckless petitioner and divines whether this interest results from outside influence. Finding no indication of such influence or danger, he nevertheless chooses caution and instructs Audrey to locate and investigate the man without alarming him 24.

After arriving in Backlund, he encounters Cyrin Gray at the steam train station. Cyrin recognizes the gray fog surrounding Klein, while Klein identifies him as the man whose dangerous prayer had reached Gray Fog 57. Klein subsequently questions him above the gray fog about Chinese, Roselle, and the concealed existence that supplied The Fool's honorific name. He personally invites Cyrin to the Tarot Club and subtly guides him toward the Wheel of Fortune card; at his first regular gathering, Cyrin introduces himself as Mr. Fate 59 61.

Operating publicly as detective Sherlock Moriarty, Klein hires Cyril as a bodyguard while under threat from Intis agents. Their work includes surveillance, investigations, and surviving Rosago's assassination attempt 89 90 95. Klein subsequently relies on Cyril's Mirror World access during the theft of the Roselle Manuscript bookmark from the Kingdom Museum 152 153 154.

Cyril eventually confronts Klein with evidence that Sherlock Moriarty and Mr. World are linked to The Fool. Klein initially neither confirms nor denies the accusation, but ultimately drops the gray-fog disguise, reveals Sherlock's face, and acknowledges his identity. During their discussion, Cyril identifies the space above the gray fog as Sefirah Castle and explains that it is the reason Amon targets Klein 190 191. Their later partnership continues through Backlund, Bayam, the Mirror World, and multiple conflicts involving demigods and dangerous artifacts 310 361 370.

Following the Great Smog incident, Klein considers Sherlock Moriarty's fabricated background too vulnerable to serious investigation by the official churches and prepares a new identity. He subsequently travels at sea as Gehrman Sparrow, maintaining a cold adventurer's persona while continuing to preside over the Tarot Club 318 331 336.

Appearance

Klein is a black-haired, brown-eyed young man with ordinary but deep-set features and a scholarly temperament. When first seen in Backlund, he wears a formal tailcoat, a half-top silk hat, and carries an oversized leather suitcase 57.

  • Usually presents as composed and unremarkable in public.
  • Uses multiple identities and appearances, including Sherlock Moriarty and Gehrman Sparrow 341 345.
  • As The Fool, sits at the head of the Tarot Club's mottled bronze table, concealed by gray fog 61.
  • His spirit-body disguise during the Kingdom Museum operation resembles a transparent Clown in a long tailcoat and half-height top hat, with a painted face 153.
  • Adopts Helene's appearance, referred to as “Elaine” in his reflections, during the operation against Vice Admiral of Ailment. After returning to Bayam, he restores Gehrman Sparrow's appearance, burns the disguise's clothing, and interferes with divination 396.
  • Temporarily impersonates Admiral Amyrius under a contract, taking on the admiral's public duties and obligations at his residence 425.

Personality

Klein is cautious, pragmatic, and highly responsive to danger. He routinely performs divinations before acting, worries about concealed threats, and prefers indirect solutions when direct confrontation would be too dangerous 24 65 247.

As The Fool, he cultivates an aloof and knowledgeable persona, using the gray fog and Tarot Club's ritual setting to conceal his actual strength. This performance becomes increasingly difficult around Cyril, whose knowledge and perception expose inconsistencies in Klein's facade 61 102 190.

Despite his secrecy, Klein repeatedly assists allies and accepts considerable risks for them. He works with Cyril during the Kingdom Museum operation, collaborates with Sharron and others against hostile Beyonders, and remains protective of Tarot Club members such as Derrick 154 169 234.

His willingness to help is tempered by concern about endangering others. During the meteor attack in Backlund, he abandons the idea of summoning Cyril through an appearance change because he fears that a delayed rescue would merely produce a second casualty. He also agrees that the struggling residents of the East, Dock, and Factory Districts should not be the victims of the impending disaster 308 310.

Klein has a dry, frequently self-directed sense of humor beneath his solemn public identities. He privately describes himself as the Tarot Club's delivery boy and an “approachable part-time evil god,” and must suppress laughter to maintain Gehrman Sparrow's cold image 197 331.

Financial pressures repeatedly affect his decisions. He eagerly accepts opportunities to reduce debts, appreciates Audrey's consideration, and is strongly tempted by the convenience of Traveler abilities despite their cost. After obtaining them through Creeping Hunger, the chance to collect Mithor King's bounty pushes him toward an unusually immediate attack 147 193 406 407.

He eventually recognizes that advancement and constant acting have left him little opportunity to enjoy life. Inspired by Roselle's diary, he watches the sunset on Saint Draco Mountain and reflects that a stable, healthy mindset is essential to resisting Beyonder madness 419.

Abilities & Skills

Gray Fog and the Gray Fog

Klein commands the space above the gray fog, which serves as the Tarot Club's meeting place and supports his identity as The Fool. Cyril identifies this space as Sefirah Castle 190.

  • Pulls Tarot Club members into the ancient palace through crimson stars and conducts regular gatherings 61 83.
  • Receives and observes prayers directed to The Fool through corresponding points of light 3 115.
  • Uses the Gate of Sacrifice and Bestowal to transfer items between Gray Fog and the real world 173.
  • Can manifest objects within the gray-fog space and use its suppression to handle dangerous Beyonder characteristics 79 349.
  • His gray fog is conspicuous to powerful or unusual observers, including Cyril and some members of the Rose School of Thought 57 159.
  • Creates and controls the puppet-like World at Tarot Club gatherings, allowing him to conduct transactions and ask questions without compromising The Fool's persona 102 167 170.
  • Screens private conversations and forwards selected portions of prayers to other members' crimson stars, functioning as the club's communications intermediary 147 197.
  • Uses the gray fog to remove the Primordial Demoness's lingering aura after destroying her altar 161.
  • Can provide Paper Angels as support and protection, even while acknowledging that he cannot personally supply demigod-level Beyonder abilities 228 308.
  • Supplies gray-fog-stained paper figurines for Cyril's charm-making experiments 399.
  • Offers his protective gaze to Audrey during dangerous mystical activities, including her exploration of the Collective Unconscious Sea 417.
  • Maintaining the gathering and its manifestations consumes his spirituality; prolonged meetings can force him to end proceedings 170 191.

Klein initially considers whether the space is the Seer pathway's Uniqueness, but his divination rejects that possibility. He later learns its name and its significance to Amon from Cyril 170 190.

Divination and Spirit Vision

As a Seer, Klein relies heavily on divination, spiritual intuition, and observation.

  • Uses pendulums, coins, and other methods to assess danger before acting 24 65 247.
  • Performs spirit mediumship to extract intelligence from the dead, including the Apostle of Desire 284.
  • Possesses a Clown's danger intuition, allowing him to react to immediate threats 78 367.
  • Knows divination can be obstructed or produce incomplete information, particularly around high-level entities and corruption 159 247.
  • Divines the wounded Desire Apostle's location above the gray fog before arranging an ambush with Cyril 283.
  • Uses the enhanced observation available above the gray fog to recognize the True Creator's familiar corruption on the captured Aurora Order member Mr. X 406.
  • Can remain lucid in dreams despite not belonging to the Nightmare or Dreamwalker Sequences, a trait noticed by Eric during his interrogation 348.

Magician and Faceless Abilities

Klein's later Seer-pathway abilities improve his survival, deception, and combat options.

  • Uses air bullets, flames, and playing-card throwing knives in combat 312.
  • Employs paper figurines and other Magician techniques to evade threats and communicate indirectly 370.
  • Can alter his appearance through Faceless abilities, enabling identities such as Gehrman Sparrow 312 345.
  • Uses his spirit body to infiltrate protected locations, including the Kingdom Museum 153 154.
  • Demonstrates Paper Figurine Substitute, Flaming Jump, Damage Transfer, Bone Softening, and Air Bullet for Cyril to record in exchange for a reduction of his debt 193.
  • Uses Flaming Jump to disappear into prepared flames or enter a battlefield through burning drawing paper 177 352.
  • Escapes contamination associated with an Abyss-connected stone door by substituting a paper figure 228.
  • After reaching Faceless, possesses greater vitality and can shift injuries, improving his chances of surviving attacks that would previously have killed him immediately 368.
  • Can potentially alert Cyril and reveal his location by transforming into Cyril's appearance, though his first attempt causes an intense spiritual warning 308.

Klein seeks the residual spirituality of an Ancient Wraith, the eyes of a Six-Winged Gargoyle, and information about mermaids for his next advancement. Arrodes explains that the mermaids' song balances the Marionettist potion's corruption and identifies Toscarter Island and the eastern Sonia Sea's divine-war ruins as possible sources 290 293.

Rituals, Charms, and Improvised Combat

Klein makes extensive use of rituals, borrowed powers, and mystical items rather than relying solely on his own Sequence abilities.

  • Activates the Corruption charm, invoking the True Creator's whispers against Rosago 95.
  • Uses Sun-domain effects, including purification and blazing light, against undead and corrupted enemies 161 361 367.
  • Acquires black-flame and frost manipulation through his Feeding Gloves after grazing a witch's soul 340.
  • Uses the Sea God Scepter as a powerful demigod-level offensive item 379 380.
  • Infuses water with the borrowed Peacemaker's purification power above the gray fog, producing holy water to treat Cyril's petrification 78 79.
  • Uses Slumber Charms to quiet Rosago's remaining flesh and the affected Sharron after the battle 96.
  • Employs the Sun Brooch and holy light to destroy the wounded Desire Apostle 283.
  • Uses Creeping Hunger's grazed Psychiatrist abilities, including Intimidation and Frenzy, against Senor 352.
  • Gains access to Traveler abilities by grazing Mr. X through Creeping Hunger. These powers are borrowed from the artifact, not a personal advancement to Traveler 406 407 427.
  • Creates a Dragon's Might talisman by praying to himself and using the gray fog to draw power from a Manipulator characteristic. Its effect proves stronger than the corresponding intimidation available from Creeping Hunger's Psychiatrist soul 407.
  • Uses Creeping Hunger's Wraith-associated Shriek during the confrontation with Mithor King 407.
  • Helps Cattleya recover from the backlash of looking at Cyril with her eyes of Mystery Prying and provides glasses to seal the ability 380.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Citrine Pendant — used for pendulum divination 24 79.
  • Corruption charm — summons the True Creator's corrupting whispers 95.
  • Feeding Gloves / Creeping Hunger — devours victims and grazes souls to grant corresponding Beyonder abilities. Klein obtains black-flame and frost manipulation from a witch, uses a Psychiatrist's powers against Senor, and later gains Traveler abilities from Mr. X. He temporarily stores the glove above the gray fog when its hunger becomes dangerous and no suitable sinful target is available 332 339 340 352 406 407.
  • Sea God Scepter — demigod-level item associated with the sea, storms, and sacred authority 379 380.
  • Roselle Manuscript bookmark — retrieved from the Kingdom Museum; repels the gray fog and is suspected to conceal a major secret 154 155.
  • Blasphemy Card / Black Emperor Card — an object of major occult significance. Klein privately identifies it to Audrey as the Black Emperor Card and states that its corresponding Sequence 9 is Lawyer 167.
  • Red Priest Card — supplied by Cyril through sacrificial rituals and examined above the gray fog. Its corruption is linked in Klein's reasoning to Bansy's troubles; he later asks for professional guidance before Cyril uses hypnosis to remove part of the card's contents from his memory 231 265 267 273.
  • Peacemaker — Cyril's purification-oriented firearm, borrowed by Klein and used to create holy water, fight Lanevus, and destroy the Primordial Demoness's altar 78 128 161.
  • Interrogator Ring — borrowed mystical item used during the confrontation with Lanevus 95 123 128.
  • Sun Brooch — provides Sun-domain power used against the wounded Desire Apostle 283.
  • Copper whistle — allows Azik to locate Klein even when high-level interference disrupts the Mirror World 370.
  • Wireless telegraph machine — obtained through Fors and initially kept above the gray fog; after Cyril suggests bringing it down, Arrodes uses it to communicate with Klein 392 393.
  • Teleportation charm — supplied by Cyril and used during Klein's return to Bayam after the Vice Admiral of Ailment operation 396.
  • All-Black Eye — contaminated by the True Creator. Klein asks Cyril to shatter it and remove that contamination, then arranges to send it through a ritual 404.
  • Dragon's Might talisman — created using the gray fog and a Manipulator characteristic; induces overwhelming fear in the patrons and combatants at the bar during the Mithor King confrontation 407.
  • Advanced Replication charm — Cyril offers Klein the remaining charm made with his blood, gray-fog aura, and a Planeswalker characteristic while Klein is endangered during the Amyrius impersonation assignment 425.

Relationships

  • Cyril / Cyrin Gray (Mr. Fate) — Tarot Club member, intermittent bodyguard, collaborator, and perceptive rival. Cyril recognizes Klein's connection to the gray fog, assists with the Kingdom Museum theft, and later confronts him over his identities 57 89 154 190. After Klein's admission, Cyril declares his preference for Klein over Amon, identifies Sefirah Castle, and offers leads for Faceless materials 190 191. Their cooperation extends to dream investigations, the Great Smog, the Book World, charm-making, and high-level threats. Klein thanks Cyril for saving him twice during the Backlund disaster 205 316 392 399 425 429.
  • Audrey Hall (Justice) — Tarot Club member whose initiative and wealth frequently support the club's exchanges and missions 63 103. Klein advises her about the Psychology Alchemists and agrees to provide protection during their tests; she later submits diary pages in repayment for his protection during an exploration of the Collective Unconscious Sea 167 266 417.
  • Alger Wilson (The Hanged Man) — early Tarot Club member and information broker; Klein trades knowledge with him while managing Alger's suspicions 61 62 167. They meet in person in Bayam, where Klein displays the Wheel of Fortune card during a divination consultation. Alger subsequently intervenes to help him against the Rose School of Thought demigod 348 368.
  • Derrick Berg (The Sun) — Tarot Club member whom Klein advises to prioritize survival and self-improvement amid the City of Silver's dangers 234. Derrick credits The Fool with providing the covenant ritual and angelic intervention that removed an Amon avatar parasitizing him 208 214.
  • Fors Wall (Magician) — Tarot Club member whose entry prompts Klein to investigate the symbolism of the Apprentice pathway 138 147. Klein forwards her concerns about an apparent Abraham family member to Cyril and responds that Mr. Fate will handle the matter 197.
  • Sharron — Wraith ally and bodyguard who helps Klein survive Rosago's attack; later asks him to act as intermediary for a trade with Cyril 95 194. She accompanies him into the sewer on Cyril's transferred commission. Their early collaboration also exposes the danger of uncoordinated friendly attacks, as purification ammunition and Klein's corrupting charm injure her 96 100.
  • Azik Eggers — powerful ally who rescues Klein from the Mirror World during the Bayam conflict 370. Klein trusts the gentle Azik he knows rather than identifying him solely with the cruel Death Archon described by Tobias, and later seeks Tracy's Death God documents to send to him 339 392.
  • Arrodes — eccentric Magic Mirror Sealed Artifact that addresses Klein as “Great Master” and provides intelligence, though Klein doubts its reliability 152 153. It explains the Marionettist ritual's need for mermaid song and later reestablishes contact through Klein's wireless telegraph machine 293 393.
  • Adam — high-ranking existence first observed answering a prayer associated with The Fool; Klein later learns that Adam is a King of Angels and leader of the Twilight Hermit Order 3 129.
  • Amon — dangerous high-level adversary whose interest in Klein centers on Sefirah Castle. Cyril explicitly chooses to support Klein rather than Amon, while Amon's parasitism of Derrick demonstrates the risks facing Tarot Club members connected to The Fool 182 190 208.
  • Will Auceptin — Snake of Mercury investigated by Klein and Cyril through Doctor Aaron's dreams. Klein later relays Will's warning that Cyril should not target him after taking the Die of Probability, along with the suggestion to seek a Snake of Mercury characteristic from Ouroboros 205 410.
  • Emlyn White (Moon) — Sanguine acquaintance and later Tarot Club member. Klein leverages Emlyn's interest in dolls to negotiate paid ingredient procurement and provides him with the club's sacrifice-and-bestowal instructions 65 222 323.
  • Cattleya (Hermit) — Tarot Club member whom Klein assists after her Mystery Prying causes a backlash. He later confronts her over a question asked on another's behalf and the disclosure of Tarot Club information 380 416.
  • Edwina Edwards — Admiral of Iceberg, collaborator in the Book World adventure, and source of the lead connecting Helene to Vice Admiral of Ailment. Klein later accompanies Cyril to observe her delivery of supplies to the Rorsted resistance 392 399.
  • Danitz — pirate associated with Edwina who encounters Klein as Gehrman Sparrow. Creeping Hunger and Klein's intimidating adventurer persona convince him that disobedience could make him food for the glove 332 351.
  • Reinette Tinekerr — Klein's messenger, encountered at her Spirit World castle while he is using Helene's disguise. She is a fallen angel of the Rose School of Thought's Temperance faction who revived in an incomplete state, retaining angelic status and demigod-level power 378 396.
  • Admiral Amyrius — employer whose identity Klein temporarily assumes under a contract. The assignment involves exhausting public duties and danger from Cynthia, the Naturism Sect, and the Mother Tree of Desire 425 427 429.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Origin of The Fool

Klein establishes himself as The Fool above the gray fog and investigates the consequences of a dangerous prayer that unexpectedly draws Adam's response 3.

Before making direct contact with the petitioner, he divines the risks and commissions Audrey to investigate discreetly 24.

Backlund and the Tarot Club

After reaching Backlund, Klein recruits Cyril into the Tarot Club, shares foundational Beyonder knowledge, directs intelligence exchanges, and issues the assassination mission against Intis ambassador Bakerland Jean Madan 57 59 61 83.

He creates The World as a separate apparent participant, enabling him to seek materials, sell characteristics, and gather information while maintaining The Fool's superior position 102 167 211. As the club expands, he administers private discussions and ritual exchanges, welcomes Emlyn and Cattleya, and manages threats arising from members' contact with high-level beings 197 208 323 380 416.

Sherlock Moriarty's Investigations

As Sherlock Moriarty, Klein takes detective commissions, hires Cyril as protection, investigates mundane and supernatural cases, and survives attacks by the Zimang Party and Rosago 89 90 95.

During the cheating-husband commission, he follows Mrs. Mary's husband to an exclusive club and obtains introductions for membership. He later accepts Cyril's transferred sewer investigation with Sharron as protection, but attempts to retreat and report the situation once she identifies a creature corrupted by the True Creator 90 91 100.

Klein subsequently confronts Lanevus in the sewer using Peacemaker and the Interrogator Ring. When Lanevus begins serving as a vessel for the True Creator, an unknown being suppresses the attempted descent; Klein kills Lanevus, and Cyril removes him from the scene. Learning that the intervention came from Cyril's mysterious benefactor leaves Klein concerned that their association has drawn that being's attention 128.

Kingdom Museum Infiltration

Klein seeks Arrodes' advice, recruits Cyril to exploit a Mirror World loophole, and successfully retrieves the Roselle Manuscript bookmark. Cyril remains behind to face Bernadette and protect the operation's secrets 152 153 154.

Exposure and Cooperation with Cyril

Cyril identifies links between The Fool, Mr. World, and Sherlock Moriarty. Rather than severing ties, the two become more candid collaborators, trading secret knowledge and advancement materials 190 194.

Klein acknowledges his identity, learns that the gray-fog space is Sefirah Castle, and receives leads for Faceless materials from Backlund's Sanguine and an Amon ruin. Cyril later records Klein's Magician abilities in exchange for reducing his debt 190 191 193.

Their joint investigations include Doctor Aaron's dreams and the restarted Snake of Mercury, as well as an Abyss-connected stone door whose contamination Klein escapes through a paper substitute 205 228.

Bayam and the Sea

Klein works alongside Cyril in Bayam and at sea, confronting the Apostle of Desire, Kalvetua's ruins, Rose School of Thought demigods, and the chaos surrounding Hermes and the Mirror World 284 361 370.

Before his maritime adventures, Klein summons himself into the sewers as the Phantom Thief Black Emperor and kills the wounded Desire Apostle with Sun-domain power. He scatters Tarot cards, including the World and Wheel of Fortune cards, at the scene 283.

As Gehrman Sparrow, he uses Creeping Hunger while pursuing dangerous pirates and occult leads. He participates in the attack on Senor and encounters the consequences of the glove's hunger. He also witnesses high-level conflict near Bansy through Tobias's shared vision while Cyril protects the White Agate 337 339 351 352.

In Bayam, a Rose School of Thought demigod targets Klein and repeatedly attacks through Wraith Possession. Alger and Cyril assist him, but their escape into the Mirror World brings them before Katarina Pelle, Clarice, and the attention of a terrifying high-level presence. Azik ultimately locates Klein through his copper whistle and rescues him; Klein withdraws so that he can support the battle from above the gray fog rather than remain a liability 367 368 370.

Great Smog and the End of Sherlock Moriarty

Warned of an approaching Backlund disaster, Klein agrees with Cyril's determination to protect the working districts and offers Paper Angels as support 308.

Cyril and Yellow Light Venithan rescue him from an incoming meteor attack. In the underground ruins, Klein encounters Ince Zangwill but suppresses his desire for revenge, recognizing that he cannot yet survive the battlefield. He follows Azik's instructions to flee, and Cyril later provides medicine and helps him escape Mr. A 310 311 316.

Afterward, Klein decides that Sherlock Moriarty's fabricated identity is insufficiently secure against official investigation and prepares to leave it behind 318.

Book World and Vice Admiral of Ailment

Klein joins Cyril, Edwina, and others in the Book World adventure involving Groselle's group and the King of the North, Ulyssan. Following their victory, they return to the Golden Dream, and Klein hears Mobet's account of Fourth Epoch history 391 392.

Edwina supplies a lead to Vice Admiral of Ailment through the search for Helene. Klein wants Tracy's Death God documents for Azik, interrogates Helene under a disguise, and lets her depart after obtaining the information he needs 392 393 394.

His subsequent assassination attempt against Vice Admiral of Ailment fails and leaves him ill. After returning to Bayam, he destroys the clothing used for his Helene disguise and interferes with divination; during his recovery, Cyril visits and requests materials stained by the gray fog 396 399 402.

Traveler Powers and the Die of Probability

Klein asks Cyril to remove the True Creator's contamination from the All-Black Eye. Soon afterward, Cyril offers the captured Mr. X, a Traveler of the Aurora Order, for 10,000 pounds. Klein subsequently grazes a Traveler through Creeping Hunger, gaining the mobility he has long desired for travel between islands 404 406 407.

The prospect of a 5,400-pound bounty tempts him to attack Smooth-Talker Mithor King in a bar. He combines Mental Piercing, gunfire, a Dragon's Might talisman, and Creeping Hunger's powers while contending with Mithor King's distortion and bribery abilities 407.

Klein is also drawn into Cyril's difficulties with the Die of Probability. Cyril asks him to contact Will Auceptin before revealing that the die is the Wheel of Fortune pathway's Uniqueness; its bad luck summons a gigantic Spirit World creature that damages the Swordfish Bar. Klein later relays Will's response and recommendation 409 410.

Admiral Amyrius Impersonation

While impersonating Admiral Amyrius, Klein fulfills demanding public obligations and remains bound by a contract despite the danger posed by Cynthia, the Naturism Sect, and the Mother Tree of Desire. Cyril offers an advanced Replication charm as additional protection 425.

When Cynthia becomes a mutated threat, Klein evades an attack with a Paper Figurine Substitute. The arrival of a hostile demigod prompts him to switch Creeping Hunger to its Traveler soul and attempt to flee rather than rely on high-level charms alone 427.

Klein and Cyril ultimately defeat the mutated monster at the villa. Klein wakes Secretary Lueran, directs him to rouse the other survivors, and prepares to explain the destruction when the real Amyrius returns 429.

Shared Dream at the Giant King's Court

Klein, Cyril, and Cattleya enter a shared dream whose setting Cyril identifies as the Giant King's Court. While Cyril explores a dark hall and a mural of Ouroboros, Klein introduces himself to Anderson and recognizes the significance of his claim to be unlucky 441.

Trivia

  • Klein initially considers the name “Adam” either a personal name or part of an honorific title after witnessing the priest answer the prayer 3.
  • Cyril's ability to perceive the gray fog makes him one of the first people to draw Klein's sustained suspicion in Backlund 57 159.
  • Klein considers Cyril's habit of appearing through mirrors or windows unnecessarily disruptive, once remarking that he would have opened the door if Cyril had knocked 123.
  • When Cyril exposes the similarities between Sherlock Moriarty and The Fool, Klein immediately asks whether the deliberately selected copies of Roselle's romantic diary entries were a prank 166 190.
  • Klein calls himself both the client and contractor when The Fool promises to purify a characteristic requested by his own World persona 169.
  • He considers selling the holy water made with Peacemaker, joking that its quality might make genuine church-produced holy water look counterfeit 79.
  • He dislikes Cyril using Sherlock Moriarty's appearance for amusement during their voyage 341.
  • While bound to impersonate Amyrius, he privately jokes that Gehrman Sparrow breaking a promise would have nothing to do with Klein Moretti 425.
