Background / History

Oaks was born into the life of Oakes Lin. When the original Oakes was fourteen, his parents died in a car accident in late 1999. The shock caused him to faint, and a different soul—Lin Xingye—awoke in his body. 1

In his previous life, Lin Xingye was an environmental-protection graduate and forest ranger who died while stopping poachers whose actions started a forest fire. Upon awakening in his new life, he received “a gift from nature,” becoming a nature-based spellcaster. 1

As a young adult, Oaks became a biology PhD and chose field collection for the One Thousand Plant Transcriptomes Initiative rather than joining a prestigious research environment. He lived and worked from his parents’ inherited Brooklyn plant shop, seeking a life closer to nature. 1

He initially treated Celtic Druid mythology as a cover identity for his powers. Encounters with Stonehenge, the Ancient One, Avalon, and Havier later proved that a genuine Druidic legacy existed and connected to his own inheritance. 97 137 168 178

Appearance

Oaks is a slender, red-haired young man standing six feet two inches tall. 1 60

  • Red hair. 60
  • Slender six-foot-two frame. 1
  • Often wears magical battle robes made from plant fibers and Uru Metal after his Asgardian enfeoffment. 147
  • His Forest Heart Battle Robe is a black, gold, and blue high-collared long coat reaching his calves, with shoulder guards, chest armor, belt, and wrist guards. 147
  • Later uses the more powerful Nature Heart Battle Robe, whose defense rivals Vibranium. 341

Personality

Oaks is driven by a sincere commitment to ecological restoration. He sees the relationship between himself and Earth’s biosphere as reciprocal: he protects nature, and nature grants him power. 27

He is independent and difficult to pressure with money, authority, or prestige. He rejects Tony Stark’s offer to become Stark Industries’ environmental director, instead accepting a supplier partnership on his own terms. He likewise refuses to cooperate blindly with S.H.I.E.L.D. after discovering its surveillance of his shop. 16 24

Though principled, Oaks is pragmatic rather than rigid. He is willing to negotiate, use political influence, conceal dangerous truths, and fabricate a beneficial historical narrative when he believes it will protect more people or serve the greater good. 35 293

His humor is often dry and teasing, especially around Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and the Ancient One. 16 178 293
