Background
Early life and the Gulaise Arena
Jiu You was raised by her mother, Tang, in Gulaise Base’s gladiatorial arena. As a child, she was lively, clingy, food-motivated, and completely confident that Tang—whom she called the strongest dragonkin in the world—would always return safely from her matches 243 244.
Tang became Jiu You’s first martial mentor, drilling her through demanding blade training and thousands of sword swings. Jiu You admired Liao Ji when he appeared in the arena’s memories and repeatedly asked him to teach her martial arts instead 247 249.
The arena leadership cultivated Jiu You with abundant food, weapons, recovery items, and Brand secret arts in order to turn her against Tang. With Tang’s guidance and the base’s resources, Jiu You’s strength surged until she could nearly contend with her mother despite her youth and inexperience 251.
Tang’s death and the Evil Dragon
Jiu You was forced into a mother-daughter arena duel. Initially treating it as ordinary training, she realized Tang was fighting seriously only after being wounded; she then performed Crimson Slash, the ultimate strike Tang had taught her 252.
Tang died by Jiu You’s hand. Arena organizers immediately hailed Jiu You as the new champion, while Tang’s followers became convinced that Jiu You had conspired with the organizers to murder her mother 253.
Unable to explain herself and consumed by guilt, Jiu You endured a succession of death matches against Tang’s former allies. She became increasingly silent, emotionally closed off, and lethally efficient; her self-hatred fed her Corrupt Calamity power until she transformed into the Evil Dragon, one of the five Corrupt Calamity Kings 253 256.
Tang later revealed through the Dreamscape that she had deliberately arranged suffering to force Jiu You’s growth, believing only extreme grief could make her independent and strong enough to survive 254 255.
Ash and the Dragon Kingdom
In memories of the old era, Ash repeatedly challenged Jiu You in the arena, eventually defeating her without killing her. His persistence and compassion began changing her view of him; after Ash conquered Gulaise Base and freed its gladiators, Jiu You became one of his most loyal followers 257 259.
Jiu You later became the Dragon Kingdom’s Empress. She trusted Karl, a companion from Ash’s former group, and accepted Minister Xia Luo after Karl supposedly appointed him as successor. Thirty years after the date she believed Karl died, Anno persuaded her to enter hibernation to avoid Corrupt Calamity contamination, leaving her detached from the Dragon Kingdom’s affairs 109.
She eventually learned that Karl had actually died decades earlier and that she had spent fifty-six years being deceived by a false Karl. Realizing that demi-humans had been systematically persecuted rather than simply failing to survive, she began to question her former rule and accept responsibility for their suffering 110.
Reunion with Lord Ash
After five hundred years apart, Jiu You located Liao Ji in the Forest of Tribes and recognized him as Lord Ash. Her reunion was unusually emotional, ending with her declaration that she had finally found him 101.
To accompany him without exposing the Dragon Empress’s identity, she adopted the persona “Little You,” disguising herself as a former arena slave with shortened hair, reduced horns, rough clothing, and no boots. Rena taught her how to switch between this appearance and her imperial form 103 106.
Jiu You joined Liao Ji’s Revolutionary Army effort, helped train its members, and used overwhelming strength to challenge the Terror Lizard Clan’s leadership by effortlessly lifting its ceremonial stone hammer 106 107.
Reform, ritual, and Contract
Shaken by the plight of the southern demi-humans, Jiu You chose to change rather than merely rule through strength. She asked A-Xue to teach her cooking so she could contribute to the group in a more ordinary way 110 111.
During the Ancient Wolf Clan conflict, she protected Liao Ji from Baal’s Corrupt Calamity spear and fought Baal directly. When Liao Ji used Corrupt Calamity Touch, she willingly allowed herself to materialize as the Red Lotus Wings so he could finish the battle 124 133.
Jiu You later activated Baal’s ritual to distribute her immense power for the Dragon Kingdom’s sake, accepting that she might lose both her strength and status. The ritual greatly weakened her, but enabled Liao Ji to form a Contract with her; its crest appeared on the nape of her neck 137 148.
Appearance
Jiu You is a tall dragonkin woman with a severe, aristocratic presence. As Dragon Empress, she projects a cold and unapproachable authority; as “Little You,” she deliberately resembles the arena slave she once was 82 102 103.
- Long crimson hair and pale violet draconic eyes 82 102.
- Two pairs of imposing dragon horns in her imperial form 82.
- Sharp facial features, a high nose bridge, and faint ink-wash-like eyeshadow 102.
- Usually wears a crimson military-style dress and knee-high red boots as Empress 82.
- Can alter her presentation into a short-haired, barefoot girl in a coarse linen shirt, with her horns reduced to tiny visible points 103.
- Her Contract crest is located on the nape of her neck 148.
Personality
Jiu You is outwardly cold, taciturn, and intimidating. She prefers battle and martial training to conversation, and her frosty expression keeps strangers at a distance 106 278.
Despite her imperial title, she is comparatively unpretentious among Ash’s former companions. Her priorities are direct: strength, protecting Lord Ash, and the people under her care. She can be bluntly honest—such as walking into a meeting merely to announce that she is hungry 105 106.
Her greatest vulnerability is her attachment to Ash and Tang. She fears becoming too weak to stand beside Ash, carries deep guilt over Tang’s death and the suffering of demi-humans, and can become unexpectedly emotional when confronted with her past 83 110 137 256.
Jiu You’s time with the Revolutionary Army broadens her outlook. She begins seeking ways to help others outside combat, learns cooking from A-Xue, and becomes more approachable to the demi-humans she once ruled from afar 111 150.

An ultra-S-rank Calamity-tier ability awakened after Jiu You cleared a dungeon alone in the game’s past 85.
- Ignites dragon patterns across the user’s body and dramatically enhances combat power 255.

- Fought Baal repeatedly despite his ability to revive after each defeat 133.
- Destroyed the Evil Dragon phantom in a single sword strike enhanced by dragonfire 256.
Imperial Authority and Enforcement
Jiu You’s rule is strongly associated with direct, uncompromising execution.
- Her former approach to controlling factions relied heavily on force, contrasting with Liao Ji’s attempt to win ideological support 85.
- In Ash Base, her arrest of corrupt official Luo Cheng triggered a broad purge of entrenched corruption 261.
- Injuries inflicted by her were so severe that even Stia’s healing could not save many of her targets 261.
