Background / History
Tang San rushed from his work at a smithy when he learned that Xiao Wu had been exposed as a 100,000-year spirit beast and targeted by Yang Ziyuan's group. Refusing to abandon her, he declared Xiao Wu his sister and accepted Yang Ziyuan's challenge despite knowing that a level-23 spirit master could not reasonably defeat a Spirit King. 33 34
Yang Ziyuan's Origin Regression drained Tang San's spirit power to roughly ten percent, while the Abyssal Demon Prison trapped him in an illusion against a peak-condition mirror image possessing his Tang Sect techniques. Tang San failed the challenge, Xiao Wu was taken away, and the mental strain caused him to collapse. 34 35
The restriction left Tang San unable to restore his spirit power. His father, Tang Hao, revealed himself as a Title Douluo and examined the condition, finding black chains binding Tang San's spirit power and devouring any excess beyond a fixed limit. Tang Hao could not remove the restriction. 40 41
After joining Blue Tyrant Academy, Tang San accepted the Asura God's offer to become a divine successor. He later discovered his second martial soul, the Clear Sky Hammer, which confirmed his connection to Tang Hao and the destroyed Clear Sky Sect. Tai Tan subsequently pledged the Strength Clan's allegiance to him. 89 90
Tang San sought to unite the surviving Clear Sky Sect forces and Single Attribute Clans against the Breaking Clan and Martial Soul Hall. He also promised Tai Tan to mediate the escalating conflict between Clear Sky Sect remnants and the Single Attribute Clans. 90 104
During the Soul Master Tournament, Tang San relied on Lanba Team's Seven-in-One Fusion Skill and later borrowed Asura Divine Power against the Martial Soul Hall Team. Yang Ziyuan intervened, drained the borrowed power, and left Tang San vulnerable to defeat; Xie Yue then administered a purple-black pill that blocked Tang San's meridians with medicinal toxins. 136 138 139 140 141
After learning of Xiao Wu's reported death and Tang Hao's reported death at Yang Ziyuan's hands, Tang San's pursuit of revenge intensified. Though his ability to cultivate was eventually restored, his lower-body injury remained unresolved. 143 144 149 150
Following the tournament, Tang San departed under Tai Long's protection to continue the Asura Nine Trials. He returned after reaching the seventh trial to find the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan destroyed, Yu Xiaogang dead, and Martial Soul Hall's expansion threatening continent-wide war. 167 179
Personality
Tang San is fiercely loyal to those he considers family, particularly Xiao Wu. He knowingly faced an overwhelmingly stronger opponent rather than leave her behind, viewing failure to act as something he could never forgive himself for. 33 34
He is resourceful and tactical under pressure, using Tang Sect movement techniques, hidden weapons, battlefield control, and team coordination to compensate for differences in strength. His methods are often viewed as dishonorable by opponents, including his use of a hidden arrow against Meng Yiran during a soul-power contest. 34 65 118
Repeated losses, the loss of Xiao Wu, Tang Hao's reported death, public accusations, and crippling injuries deepen Tang San's resentment toward Yang Ziyuan, the Breaking Clan, and Martial Soul Hall. His drive to gain divine power is closely tied to his desire for revenge and to restore the Clear Sky Sect's position. 90 142 144 146
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses two martial souls: Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer. Tai Tan recognized the Clear Sky Hammer as proof that Tang San is Tang Hao's son. 90
- Blue Silver Grass — His primary martial soul, used for restraint, battlefield control, and vine-based attacks. 34 64
- Clear Sky Hammer — His second martial soul; under his team's soul-power augmentation, he wielded it as an enormous, mountain-like weapon against Yao Mei. 89 136
- He was hesitant to use a Clear Sky Hammer soul-ring slot for the Asura Trial, as it could affect the martial soul's future development. 102
Blue Silver Grass Techniques
- First Soul Skill: Bind — Produces thick vines that restrain targets, successfully immobilizing a Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent. 64
- Fourth Soul Skill: Blue Silver Cage — Creates a durable cage of intertwined vines around enemies; Yao Mei's Moon Blade could not leave a mark on it. 139
- Blue Silver Binding — Shrinks the cage to tightly bind its occupants. 139
- Asura-enhanced Blue Silver Grass — Borrowed divine power turned his grass blood-red, enabling it to absorb Yan's Hellfire. 138
- His Blue Silver Grass is vulnerable to elemental disadvantage without divine enhancement; he regarded Yan's fire attribute as a major counter. 140
Tang Sect Arts and Hidden Weapons
Tang San employs Tang Sect techniques and concealed weaponry, allowing him to launch attacks even when physically outmatched. 34 35
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — A movement technique used to evade Yang Ziyuan's Origin Regression and escape pursuit. 34 118
- Silent Sleeve Arrow — A wrist-mounted projectile weapon; Yang Ziyuan's Black Hole Martial Soul absorbed its shot. 34
- Flying and poison needles — Used to create escape routes, attack opponents, and attempt surprise attacks. 118 140 143
- Hidden weapons can be countered by stronger spirit masters, defensive soul power, fire attacks, or Yang Ziyuan's Black Hole Martial Soul. 34 65 140 143
Asura Divine Power
Tang San can receive power from the Asura God as part of his succession trials. 89 138
- Borrowed one percent of the Asura God's power during the tournament, greatly enhancing his Blue Silver Grass. 138
- The borrowed power did not belong to him and was drained by Yang Ziyuan's Power Induction. 139 140
- Later regained access to Asura God's power, restoring his ability to cultivate. 149 150
Blood-Red Energy Barrier
A mysterious blood-red energy barrier manifests when Tang San faces a fatal threat. Its origin was unknown to Tang San and Yu Xiaogang. 118 121
- The barrier destroyed Ghost Douluo's attacking ghost shadows upon contact. 118
- Tang San appears unaffected when exposed to some Title Douluo pressure, possibly due to the barrier's protection. 118
- Yu Xiaogang deduced that the barrier may have accidentally killed Dai Mubai and the others after activating against an attempted attack on Tang San. 121
- It does not prevent nonlethal coercion, power drainage, or methods designed to avoid triggering its fatal-threat condition. 139 143 144
Equipment / Items
- Silent Sleeve Arrow — Concealed wrist-mounted arrow launcher. 34
- Poison needles / flying needles — Tang Sect hidden weapons used in combat and escape attempts. 118 140 143
- Godly Zhuge Crossbow — Associated with Tang San's crafting method; he permitted the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect to retain its crossbows. 136
- Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng — A precious herb gifted to Tang San by Bai He to support his cultivation. 103
Relationships
- Xiao Wu — Adoptive sister and the person Tang San most fiercely protected; her capture drove his initial conflict with Yang Ziyuan, and her reported death intensified his pursuit of revenge. 33 35 143
- Tang Hao — Father and a Title Douluo. Tang Hao tried unsuccessfully to remove Tang San's spirit-power restriction; Tang San later learned that Yang Ziyuan had reportedly captured and killed him. 41 144 146
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and principal advisor. He helped Tang San pursue the Asura Trial, identify the Clear Sky Hammer, and seek allies, though Tang San later felt little grief at Yu Xiaogang's death. 89 90 103 179
- Asura God — Divine patron and the source of Tang San's Asura Nine Trials and borrowed divine power. 89 138 147
- Tai Tan — Patriarch of the Strength Clan who swore allegiance to Tang San after witnessing the Clear Sky Hammer. 90
- Bai He — Tang San's granduncle, who gave him the Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng. 103
- Liu Erlong — Protector and ally who accompanied Tang San when he tried to clear his name before the Star Luo Royal Team. 117 121
- Yang Ziyuan — Primary enemy. Yang drained Tang San's spirit power, took Xiao Wu, interfered in his tournament battle, and was blamed by Tang San for the deaths of Xiao Wu and Tang Hao. 34 139 143 144
- Ning Fengzhi — Political ally of convenience; Tang San repaired relations with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect by allowing it to keep the Godly Zhuge Crossbows. 135 136
