Background / History
At awakening, Chen Yumo mistakes the tiny, wriggling Ice Silkworm for a maggot. Su Yuntao calls it a useless Martial Soul, but Chen later notices it responding to touch while he practices meditation. He identifies it as an independent Beast Martial Soul with only a faint consciousness and an instinct to eat 1 8.
Chen feeds it Cold Mulberry Leaves and seeds. It eats without his control, and the energy it absorbs increases his Soul Power as well. Sustained feeding lets it grow and cocoon, making its first butterfly metamorphosis possible 12 16 21 22.
As the Martial Soul develops, Chen names her Xueli, with Xue’er as a nickname. What began as an almost entirely instinctive creature gains emotions, preferences, and the ability to communicate simply with him 40 41.
Appearance
Xueli’s appearance changes with her transformations rather than remaining that of a silkworm.
- Original form: A cold, wriggling Ice Silkworm no longer than Chen’s pinky finger at awakening 1 21.
- Butterfly form: An ice-blue butterfly with glowing golden eye markings; later observed with a palm-sized wingspan 22 27.
- Tiger form: A large black-and-white tiger capable of carrying Chen on her back 40.

Personality
Xueli’s earliest behavior is driven almost entirely by hunger. After her first metamorphosis, she begins showing simple likes and dislikes, including displeasure at chewing Sword Bamboo. Later, she responds happily to her name, communicates with Chen, and seeks physical closeness with him 8 40 41 122.

Feeding and cocooning
- Eating energy-bearing food strengthens Xueli and increases Chen’s Soul Power 12.
- Prolonged nourishment prepares her for metamorphosis at a Spirit Ring bottleneck; the cocoon reflects the attributes she has accumulated 21 35 62.
- Her appetite is substantial: as an Ice Silkworm, she could eat continuously through day and night 16.
Transformation and possession
- White Tiger Transformation changes her Martial Soul form and can be activated again for Martial Soul Possession 36.
- Possessing her butterfly form gives Chen wings and flight, though he considers its flight speed too slow for serious combat 37.
- Switching forms while Chen is possessing the Martial Soul initially takes five seconds 37.
