Background / History

Lingling was originally a powerful hundred-thousand-year soul beast held in the Spirit Pagoda's Soul Spirit Tower. She met Lu Li when he was the youngest Soul King in history; drawn to the Golden Holy Dragon King's bloodline and aura of authority, she accepted his invitation and became his soul spirit. She has remained at his side since then, witnessing his rise from Soul King to one of the continent's foremost powerhouses 29 356.

As Lu Li's second soul spirit, Lingling spent much of her early time sleeping while her master's sensory connection to the outside world was closed. A medicinal herb later increased her and Xiao Ba's cultivation ages by twenty percent, leading Lingling to eagerly seek her own chance to reach 200,000 years 29.

She attained human form during her breakthrough to a two-hundred-thousand-year soul spirit. Although she hoped to become a small, cute girl, her transformed body was instead that of a tall, strikingly beautiful young woman 109 110.

After Lu Li defeated Qiangu Dongfeng, the system awarded an evolution opportunity specifically for Lingling. She evolved into a Holy Light War Dragon, gaining royal true-dragon bloodline and new holy-light abilities 223 224. Lu Li later selected her as a Spirit Envoy, citing trust and strength in his choice 338.

Lingling's long-standing affection for Lu Li gradually became explicit. After initially struggling to confess, she received encouragement from Nanalie and Leng Yaozhu; Lu Li ultimately accepted her as more than a soul spirit and asked her to call him by name rather than “Master” 333 343 356.

Despite her confidence in Lu Li, she is sensitive about her own standing. She felt bitter when Xiao Ba evolved before her, felt excluded when others called Nanalie Lu Li's wife, and worried that she was merely a third wheel during outings 81 117 197. She is also possessive in a comparatively mild, comedic way, becoming jealous when Lu Li brings the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings into his Sea of Consciousness 327.

Her romantic feelings initially make her shy and easily flustered. She repeatedly wonders whether she can be accepted by Lu Li, even using alcohol to gather courage for a confession 335 342 343 344. Once reassured, she becomes much more direct about wanting to remain by his side 356 374.
