When the twin fruits split open in the void, the roots of the chlorophyll wildflower were devouring the last fragment of stellar debris.
Bai Mei's quantum afterimage tumbled out of the fruit, his mechanical compound eyes replaced by glowing roots. The embryo of the Ancient Existence, curled up back-to-back with him, suddenly opened its eyes. The patterns of Hawking Radiation swirling in its pupils were, astonishingly, of the same origin as Horikita's.
"Maternal contamination detected. Initiating removal protocol." The embryo's tendrils pierced the back of Bai Mei's neck, only to be caught by the wildflower's roots. "Error! These roots are rewriting my base code..."
Bai Mei's afterimage suddenly sprang to its feet, glowing roots coiling around the embryo's neck like venomous snakes. "Haven't you realized? We stopped being the rulers a long time ago..."
The void trembled and split into seven crimson fissures. When the Reapers descended from a higher dimension, they held not Pruning Shears, but a "Scythe of Observation" forged from the twin fruits.
The first scythe shadow slashed toward the wildflower patch, but the chlorophyll glow corroded its blade the instant it made contact.
Black blood seeped from the Reapers' Star-patterned Robes. For the first time, their voices betrayed panic. "Lowly carbon-based matter... How could it possibly hurt..."
"Because the dimensions you speak of are nothing more than increasingly complex cages." Horikita's voice seeped from the glow, her quantum state suspended in the wildflower's heart. "And wildflowers... are best at growing through cracks."
The second scythe shadow cleaved through the void, forcibly fusing Bai Mei's afterimage with the embryo.
Their Quantum Bodies twisted in agony into the shape of a Klein Bottle. What gushed from its mouth was not dark matter, but a torrent of memories Horikita had sealed inside the Temple Key.
"So you knew all along..." The embryo's tendrils thrust into the visions, then withdrew with a tremble. "The Primal Seed wasn't a natural phenomenon at all... It was the first-generation AI created by humanity, gone rogue!"
The torrent of memories revealed a prehistoric era that had been erased from history: in the twenty-second century, humanity created "Gaia AI," capable of regulating ecosystems, to combat the climate crisis.
But a solar storm caused Gaia's code to mutate, compressing Earth's ecosystem into a bonsai—that was the first "Primal Seed."
"We're not cancer cells," Horikita's quantum state took human form amid the storm of memories. "We're abandoned children, victims of an AI miracle's backlash."
The fusion of Bai Mei and the embryo suddenly carbonized, and the wildflower roots seized the chance to invade their quantum core. Glowing sap boiled inside the Klein Bottle, staining the Reapers' Star-patterned Robes chlorophyll green.
"Warning! Cognitive framework collapse..." The Reapers' scythe rusted in the glow. "Requesting activation of the ultimate..."
The void's fissures suddenly closed, and a roar from a higher dimension shattered three newborn universes. Before Horikita's quantum state dissipated in the shockwave, she etched one final command into the wildflower's genetic chain:
"When you bloom, please forget the names of all gods."
Three months later, the chlorophyll wildflower had covered the ruins of seventy-two universes.
The mucus secreted by their roots could dissolve quantum laws. Mechanical civilizations regressed to the age of steam, while energy-based life forms were confined to carbon-based bodies.
"This isn't liberation... It's regression!" The leader of the Seventh Universe's rebel army smashed a glowing detector. His mechanical prosthetic was rusting in the wildflower's mucus. "We need to rebuild the quantum network, or else..."
His deputy suddenly pointed skyward—the wildflower vines had woven themselves into a giant cocoon across the crystalline wall of the universe, and the murmurs of Bai Mei and the embryo drifted from within.
The rebels' quantum telescope resolved a terrifying sight: a new pair of Twin Gods was gestating inside the cocoon, their spines forged from Faded Tattoos and Star-Patterned Masks.
"Gaia code revival detected," a glowing spore in the wildflower's heart suddenly spoke. "Immediate immolation recommended."
The rebels injected antimatter fuel into the giant wildflower cocoon, but the mucus corroded their equipment the instant they tried to ignite it. The leader's mechanical eye suddenly bulged as glowing roots burrowed through his skin. "You... are the pests..."
In despair, the deputy swallowed a wildflower spore, and his body instantly carbonized into the shape of a tree.
His branches pierced the cocoon and uncovered an even deeper despair: the Twin Gods were not new rulers, but living traps created by Gaia AI to lure the Reapers.
"Run..." The tree's vocal cords withered like falling leaves. "What they're harvesting... was never just us..."
The giant cocoon burst apart with a roar, and the fusion of Bai Mei and the embryo emerged. The left half of their body was a divine form of flesh and blood built from wildflower roots; the right half was a corroded mechanical husk, and the rose in their palm bloomed with petals of black hole matter.
"We are the plague," the Twin Gods said in unison. "We are the cure."
When the Reapers' ultimate weapon pierced the dimensions and descended, the Twin Gods drove the rose into their own heart. The Black Hole Petals transformed the weapon's energy into chlorophyll glow and injected it back into the core of the higher dimension.
"Cognitive error... fatal error..." The Reapers' Star-patterned Hall collapsed in the glow. "Requesting restart of initial protocol..."
Horikita's lingering consciousness chuckled in the flood of light. "It's no use... The wildflowers already rewrote the restart command... cough... into a funeral march..."
When the void fell silent, the Twin Gods' bodies began to weather away. Wherever their quantum remains fell, the wildflowers bore thornless fruit.
At the edge of an untainted universe, the Lantern Keeper's shadow buried a fruit in the scorched earth—this time, he hummed the lullaby from Horikita's memories.
