Death Knight Kin?
Staring at the status name on the panel, Ian's first thought was of the Death Knight among the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, though he could not quite figure out what kind of character it was.
He still remembered the Angel of Death.
As for the Death Knight... it had been over ten years since he had transmigrated. Even though Ian often reinforced his memories, it was difficult for him to recall such peripheral details clearly.
Not to mention, he did not know every aspect of the world he now lived in. He was a man who had scored over seven hundred on the college entrance exam; naturally, the books he had read most were textbooks.
Movies and comics? They had merely been diversions in his spare time. If he had known he would transmigrate into the DC Universe, Ian would have dropped out and stayed home to become a true "comic scholar."
"No matter what, the pendant Madison gave me is probably far from ordinary." Ian could tell that whatever had bestowed the mark on the back of his hand was definitely a big shot.
He just did not know how big or how powerful that big shot was. Still, being able to precisely investigate such mysterious identity information made Ian think even more highly of his system.
"Maybe I really do have a chance to shed my identity as an ordinary NPC." Ian lowered his head to look at the mark on the back of his hand. Its lines flowed smoothly, yet were filled with a mysterious charm.
Its only flaw was that it had not brought him any negative effects.
That left him somewhat disappointed and regretful.
No matter who the big shot behind this special status was, Ian felt that person did not really understand his needs. It was obvious that this was merely the sort of half-hearted attention that did not truly care about him.
"Shrimp-head!"
Ian only dared mutter that in his heart, and even that was already quite bold. In the end, he rubbed the mark a few times before taking out the homework assigned by his teachers.
Yes, that was right. Even public schools in America had homework; there was simply very little of it, and most of the time it could be finished quickly.
If one was fast, it took a little over ten minutes. If one was slow, it took half an hour. For Ian, however, it took two hours—not because he was incapable, but because he completed twenty sets of homework.
As a genuine top student,
Ian had long provided customized services for his classmates. He had a detailed grasp of every classmate's academic level, and not a single teacher had ever discovered this business.
"Only public schools have so many kids who do not like studying." Ian sighed faintly. In truth, given his parents' abilities, Ian and his two older brothers all had the means to attend private school. But their father was Superman, a fusion of divinity and humanity, a near-saint in the DC Universe.
Blending in with the common people was important.
That was Superman's philosophy, and also his way of raising children. At the same time, Ian felt that sending his children to public school was probably also meant to prevent their values from being warped by high society.
Smoking and drinking?
Those bad habits were only child's play in American private schools. When the bad students at those schools went bad, they were far beyond anything the so-called school bullies and delinquents at public schools could compare to.
"Done! Time to call it a day!"
Ian finished up his little side business.
Then he began working on The Overbearing Superman Falls in Love With Me. He was a little stuck, so he decided to introduce a new element: Superman would be hit by a spaceship, lose his memory several hundred light-years away, and forget the female lead.
In the following story, Superman would even forget that he was Superman. He would then be taken in by a scheming female villain, forcing the forty-year-old female lead to return to her old trade and become a cleaning lady at the villain's company.
"The female lead also has to discover the company's unspeakable secret: they plan to use poisoned sanitary pads to harm and control girls all over the world! Only the female lead, who has been menopausal for years, is unaffected!"
"Oh, right, the female lead also has nine children. I can send them off one by one like the Calabash Brothers. I really am a genius at stitching things together!" Ian was very satisfied with his plot design.
He put pen to paper once more, pouring his heart and soul into the ink. Honestly, Ian no longer cared whether the book would be published or whether it would make money. He felt that the most important thing about writing was enjoying it himself.
Of course.
Making money would naturally make it a win-win situation.
Ian won twice.
"What an utterly exhilarating storm of inspiration!" Ian only stopped writing when he reached a part he found dull. After thinking it over, he decided to submit the manuscript to a publishing house he had already picked out.
Wayne Enterprises held absolute control over it.
Surely there had to be an editor there with an eye for talent.
Ian trusted Batman's business investment skills.
"I'll mail it tomorrow."
Full of anticipation, Ian organized the first volume of his manuscript and carefully polished a few more details. Only then did he leave his room to wash up. When he returned, the clock on his desk had already reached a special moment.
[11:59]
Ian hurried to his bed.
[12:00]
At last, in the final moment, Ian pulled the blanket over himself. He lay flat on the bed, his hands folded over his abdomen like a corpse ready to be placed in a coffin.
As the boundary between one day and the next arrived, he entered that strange, slightly fantastical world as scheduled. A biting cold wind swept over his face without causing any harm. Ian slowly opened his eyes. The familiar lead-gray sky pressed down on his vision, while goose-feather snowflakes drifted silently from above.
"My spawn point this time is really far away." Ian breathed out and looked around. Once he found the bridge as a reference point, he figured out where he was.
"Homelander! Homelander!"
Having entered this world once again,
Ian's mind was filled with the goal of getting closer to his "family." Raising a hand to brush away the snow and briefly checking the road signs, Ian dashed madly north.
Strength and physical fitness several times greater than an ordinary person's allowed him to run like an agile cheetah. He was practically a human vehicle as he sped through one silent street after another.
The snow continued to fall.
This city was simply too large.
Even at Ian's speed, he was panting heavily after running for several hours before finding that familiar place. That might also have had something to do with him getting briefly lost along the way.
Ian felt that he could not be entirely blamed for having no sense of direction. Mainly because, after learning this place was connected to the Marvel Universe, he had searched the surrounding area along the way for other possible superhero corpses.
However,
he found nothing.
Fortunately, he eventually found the street where Hulk and Homelander's corpses lay. Hulk was already being buried beneath the snow, though the snow had not piled up too deeply.
Standing in the street,
Ian hesitated for a moment.
He looked at his greatly increased [Strength] and [Constitution] attributes and ultimately decided to climb with his own hands rather than search the area for tools he could use.
Humans invented and learned to use tools because they were diligent.
As for him,
he was somewhat lazy.
"Here I come, Homelander!" Ian first took a few steps back, then suddenly sprinted forward. Like a skyrocket, he climbed up along Hulk's arm.
The facts proved it.
Boys who liked relying on themselves did not have bad luck.
Ian succeeded.
He had won the bet. He did not know whether Tang Niu was the God of Cookery, but he knew that he was definitely the God of Gamblers. Hugging Hulk's thumb, Ian reached toward Homelander's head.
The blood had already completely congealed.
It came into contact with his still somewhat youthful hand.
