It had to be said, Boeing really had something going for it.
Just a company name was enough to completely shatter every doubt and conspiracy theory in Ian's mind. Looking across the entire world, there were probably very few companies with such brand power.
Its deeply ingrained brand image had become something even superheroes took for granted. Even someone as worldly as Ian could not help but marvel. This company really had gone to great lengths for the superheroes' performance figures!
"Rumble! Rumble!"
The right wing of the Boeing 747 spewed flames ten meters long, metal fragments scattering like fireworks. Inside the cabin, the desperate passengers' screams nearly drowned out the plane's alarms.
"Hold on!"
Kara accelerated.
The trajectory of her flight changed sharply.
Ian hurriedly grabbed onto her neck. The two plunged like a silver meteor, reaching the underside of the plane just before it crashed into the wilderness fields.
The fuselage was tilted severely, and terrified faces could be seen through the windows. She adjusted her angle, flew beneath the plane, and raised both hands to steadily support its belly.
"Whoosh—"
Kara's Bio-field wrapped around the three-hundred-ton steel behemoth like an invisible membrane of water, gradually changing the direction of the plane's nose along its descent.
She was clearly already highly experienced in rescuing this type of aircraft. Holding up the plane with Ian on her back, she slowly adjusted its posture before finally landing it smoothly on the ground.
"Bang!"
Kara's feet sank deeply into the asphalt, cracks spreading from where she stood like a spiderweb. Yet she did not transfer the force to the plane, and no one aboard the stabilized aircraft was even thrown from their seat.
This was probably a sight most physicists would never understand in their entire lives.
"Seriously, this is exactly how Homelander imagines himself," Ian remarked enviously. As the evacuation slides inflated and unfolded, the still-shaken passengers scrambled out through the cabin doors.
The crisis had been successfully resolved.
In high spirits, Kara stood with her hands on her hips and caught her breath.
At some point, her clothes had already changed into her battle suit.
A one-second costume change.
It was a required course for many superheroes.
"It's Superwoman!" A little boy wearing a baseball cap was the first to recognize Kara. He excitedly tugged on his mother's hand. "Mom, Superwoman saved us!"
"Oh, God, thank you. Thank you for sending your messenger to save us." An elderly Christian with snowy white hair dropped to his knees, tracing a cross over his chest as he thanked his faith.
"I swear I'll never complain about my mom's terrible cooking again. As long as I'm alive, I'll eat anything!" A young woman in her early twenties burst into tears after surviving the disaster.
Weak laughter broke out among the crowd.
At this moment—
A woman with burgundy hair and a beige trench coat among the crowd had also calmed down. Unlike the others, who were grateful and relieved, her instincts as a reporter made her want to seize this firsthand story.
"My name is Iris West. I'm a reporter for the Central City Citizen. Superwoman, thank you so much for helping us. Without your help, perhaps we all would have..."
Reporter Iris held up her phone to record. Her voice was excited, but she did not finish the grim thought. Perhaps she was still too shaken to dwell on that possibility.
"You're welcome, Ms. West. It's my job, isn't it? As long as everyone is safe, that's what matters." Kara's answer was very official. She was highly experienced with this sort of interview.
"This is very close to Metropolis. Are you temporarily helping Superman? I heard something happened to him. Could you clarify the rumors for the public, or prove whether that is true?"
Iris knew exactly what kind of news she needed. Since yesterday's plane crash, both Metropolis and the internet had been filled with discussion over why Superman had failed.
"As for that, I think his own response afterward would be more convincing than anything I could say." Kara's heart suddenly tightened at Iris's question.
But she remained outwardly calm and gave a flawless answer. She was no novice, and Kara had received training in handling interviews.
"Thank you."
Reporter Iris was white Iris, so she had a fairly good sense of boundaries and did not continue making things difficult for her savior. She looked toward the other passengers, then smoothly changed the subject.
"I noticed that you seemed to be escorting a criminal just now?"
Reporter Iris already had a draft forming in her mind. All she needed now was to piece together Superwoman's usual vigilante routine.
Readers loved this sort of thing, just as fans loved peeking into their idols' private lives.
"Escorting a criminal?"
Still somewhat stunned by the possibility that something had truly happened to Superman, Kara was visibly taken aback for a moment when she heard reporter Iris's follow-up question.
"Hiss!"
As if remembering something, Kara abruptly turned to look beside her. When she discovered that Ian, whom she had set down while changing outfits, had vanished, she hurriedly spun around in alarm to look behind her.
There—
At some point, Ian had already jumped off Kara's back. He was currently surrounded by several bold passengers taking photos with him. Worse still, he had a translucent flesh-colored stocking pulled over his head!
The kind with holes poked where the eyes and mouth were!
He looked exactly like a seasoned criminal!
Kara felt her temples throb. She hurried over to Ian, who was charging people to pose for photos, ignored the passengers' praise, grabbed him in panic, and shot straight into the sky.
As if she feared that if she were even one second slower—
Ian would cause some other kind of trouble.
The other passengers had not even reacted yet.
"Click, click, click—"
Reporter Iris pulled out her camera, aimed it at the sky, and started snapping furiously, pressing the shutter so fast it nearly caught fire. After all, every one of these firsthand photos could be turned into Franklin.
"Whoosh—"
Just then—
A bolt of lightning suddenly raced in from afar, drawing startled cries and panic from many of the passengers. A man clad in gold-and-red armor came to a stop before them.
His face was covered by a metal mask, leaving only a not particularly large mouth exposed.
"The Flash! It's the Flash!"
Some passengers shouted excitedly and pulled out their phones. One little girl in particular had originally been livestreaming, and she had been disappointed after Superwoman left.
She had not expected to capture another superhero.
"Oh! My God! Friends, look, it's the Flash! My luck is incredible today!" The little girl wanted to gain followers through her livestream, but her viewers were not particularly impressed.
The chat was filled with accusations: [Stop slacking off, pinup girl.]
"Is everyone... all right?" The Flash looked around. His gaze remained fixed on his childhood sweetheart, though he still tried to conceal it a little to avoid exposing his identity.
"The Flash! You came to Metropolis too?"
Iris had clearly not yet received Barry Allen's confession. She hurriedly pointed her camera at the Flash and began hammering the shutter again to earn herself some cash.
"Uh..."
Barry Allen wanted to say that he had rushed here from a battle after receiving Iris's "goodbye" call, but after glancing around, he could not reveal himself because of his feelings.
"Yes, that's right. You know, superheroes hold regular gatherings. I was just..." Barry Allen was quite talkative, but just as he was trying to bluff his way through it—
"Hiss—"
An intense wave of weakness suddenly hit him.
His words came to an abrupt stop.
He could not help dropping to one knee.
"What's wrong?" Iris hurried forward to support the Flash. Although she did not know the Flash's identity, she had long been acquainted with him.
The BMW Mini she had bought earlier that year owed a great deal to this old friend.
"It's nothing... just..."
Feeling the weakness in his body—
Barry Allen had intended to brush it off, but then he discovered that his Speed Force was weakening as well. Panic rose within him, and he hurriedly removed part of the armor from his arm.
"Savitar... what did he do to me?"
There—
Barry Allen's arm also bore a savage wound.
It was from the battle not long ago.
It was now glowing with a faint blue light. Ian had been taken away too early; otherwise, if he had seen this scene, he would definitely have recognized the shape of that wound.
Aside from its color—
It was exactly the same as the wound on Superman's arm!
