It was unclear whether this was her first glare of the day, but Superwoman's expression was spectacular. Her mouth opened and closed, yet in the end, she could not summon the courage to ask.
"Next book. I'll definitely write you into the next one, Great-Aunt. The Story Wonder Woman and Superwoman Had to Tell—I'm sure it'll receive an incredibly correct market response in America." Ian did not want to disappoint his relative, so he gave Kara what he considered a deeply heartfelt promise.
However.
The Kryptonian girl's face immediately turned deathly pale.
"I think I'm still a little too unknown. Not suitable, not suitable..." Kara frantically waved her hands, and there was even a trace of terror in her eyes.
"Let's talk about why you came to see me! Did you cause some huge disaster at home and have no choice but to run here to avoid being punished by your parents?"
Kara desperately changed the subject.
From the bottom of her heart, she felt that given Ian's personality and the condition listed on his diagnosis, she would not be all that shocked no matter how much trouble he had caused.
"The truth is actually the opposite. My dad caused a huge disaster, forcing someone as cautious as me to step up and help him." Ian walked toward the open kitchen.
His eyes were fixed solely on Kara's huge refrigerator. The chicken nuggets and French fries from before had been high in calories, but they still had not filled the hunger and energy deficit caused by using Self-Healing Tide.
"Talk normally!"
Kara let out a weary sigh.
"Be serious. Tell me the truth... if you still want my help." She watched Ian open her refrigerator and take out a container of food.
"That is the truth, Great-Aunt. The brother you love like family is dying, and we are the only ones who can save him." Ian rarely spoke in such a serious, low voice.
Of course.
His seriousness did not last three seconds. He soon lowered his head again and opened the lunchbox, sniffing it with a slight frown. After hesitating for a moment, he still stuffed two large bites of chicken breast into his mouth.
"Pfft, pfft, pfft!"
After chewing twice, Ian hurriedly spat the chicken breast back out.
"It's gone bad!"
He rushed to the sink and vigorously rinsed his mouth, regretting not taking only a small bite when he had smelled the sour odor. Hunger really did impair one's intelligence far too much.
"So this is the food upstairs you were talking about, Great-Aunt?"
Wiping his mouth, the boy asked a soul-searching question.
"..."
Kara felt unbelievably awkward.
"Maybe it was left there for a few extra days..." She hurried to the refrigerator and stopped Ian from taking anything else out. "Actually, some of the things in there might have been sitting for dozens of days?"
"Anyway, definitely no more than sixty days. I only moved in sixty days ago." Kara deeply regretted her lack of good living habits, though for most people, that sort of regret was probably intermittent.
Once the awkwardness faded.
The habits would remain exactly the same.
"Are you sure you're a girl?"
Ian felt his filter for girls shatter.
"Well... it's fermented cuisine. You wouldn't understand... Since you can't handle this slightly fermented delicacy, I'll take you out for fried chicken later."
Kara's excuse was truly terrible beyond terrible.
"..."
This time, Ian was speechless.
"You call this stuff cuisine?"
He grabbed several more pieces of chicken breast from the container he had taken out earlier. Aside from the few pieces on top that still appeared intact, the chicken underneath had even begun seeping green liquid.
"This isn't attacking a person's sense of taste anymore. It can only attack the health insurance cards of everyone who swallows it!" Ian was someone who could calmly take a few bites out of an Evil Spirit just to see what it tasted like.
Yet even he truly could not accept this.
Chicken breast already tasted like shit. Before it spoiled, it was merely tolerable if one forced oneself to eat it. Now, in his mouth, it carried an intensely strong odor like human sweat glands mixed with a urine-soaked utility pole.
"Stop talking nonsense and talk about your father... You don't look worried at all!" Kara had no idea how many times she had changed the subject today.
Still, this was indeed the important matter. Kara remained deeply skeptical of Ian's story. After all, there were not many things on Earth that could threaten Superman's life. Anything that endangered Superman was a planet-extinction-level disaster every time it happened, and she should not have failed to notice such a disaster.
"There's a reason I'm not worried. As for the reason... Fine, let's talk about my father." Noticing Kara's expression was off, Ian did not continue with any other tangents.
After organizing his thoughts.
Ian began recounting the relevant events in full detail.
About ten minutes later.
Kara had roughly understood the whole situation through his account. However, in Kara's eyes, hearing about Ian's "experience" only made her suspect even more strongly that he was having an "episode."
"So..." Before speaking, Kara even had to take a deep breath. Her voice seemed to squeeze through clenched teeth. "You mean you encountered a cosmic-level goddess who was one hundred percent secretly in love with you, so she risked breaking the rules to secretly tell you how to save your father?"
Kara could not really be blamed for not believing Ian.
The story was simply too absurd.
"Yeah, there was a little artistic embellishment. Not much. That's roughly what happened." Ian sat on the sofa opposite her, his expression serious and resolute.
Hearing that.
Kara fell into a long silence.
Her gaze swept back and forth across Ian's face, trying to find even the slightest flaw in that innocent-looking expression—she could not tell. She really could not tell!
Was this bargain-bin nephew of hers having an episode, or had something so absurd, outrageous, and downright defiant of heaven truly happened? Just as Kara's head buzzed and she was about to enter a Dao Weird Super state.
Ian suddenly pulled a military dagger from his pocket.
Kara's eyes widened instantly.
"Wait—"
Before she could finish her warning.
Ian had already stabbed without hesitation toward his own heart.
Whoosh!
Kara became a blur, Kryptonian speed tearing a brief sonic boom through the air. Her hand clamped tightly around the blade, and the metal groaned under the unbearable strain in her palm.
"What are you doing!?"
Kara was still shaken.
Her voice was nearly a roar, and she looked like a cat with all its fur standing on end.
"Obviously, I'm proving that my father really is on the brink of death, and that some big shot wants to save him... Of course, I'm also full and satisfied, so I wanted to take advantage of the big shot's bug while I was at it."
Ian tried to force the dagger into his chest, only to discover that no matter how hard he pushed, it would not budge. The gap in strength between him and Supergirl Kara was simply too vast.
"Great-Aunt, you're blocking my path to takeoff." Ian could only try to persuade Kara to let go. However, after her expression changed, Kara directly crushed the military dagger in his hand.
The blade shattered into several pieces in the seemingly delicate girl's palm.
"I'll go investigate with you right now! Is that enough?" Kara took a deep breath, her chest heaving violently. She suspected Ian was having an episode, but no matter what, she could only send him back to Metropolis first.
"Alright!"
Ian sprang up from the sofa.
"What are you doing?"
Watching Ian walk toward her and then suddenly leap, Kara went completely numb. Still, remembering that he was a pitiful child, she could only swallow her speechlessness.
After charging straight out the window.
Supergirl took flight.
And Ian... sitting on Supergirl's back, flew along with her.
"So this is what flying feels like!" Ian grabbed Kara's hair with both hands, feeling the breeze sweep across his face. He grew ever more eager to unlock Homelander.
"No! Can you show your Great-Aunt a little respect? I know which way to fly! You don't need to pull my hair to navigate me!" Kara had never felt so exhausted in her life.
But she was the elder.
What could she do?
She could only scold him irritably a few times.
Unfortunately, Ian's way of thinking was truly impossible for her to fathom.
"Giddyup! Giddyup!"
Ian really did stop using her hair to control Kara's direction. However, hearing the sounds behind her and feeling kicks against her waist, Kara felt that having Ian pull her hair would have been better!
"Can you calm down..."
Kara had only gotten halfway through her helpless complaint.
The next moment.
Her Super Hearing caught something unusual in the distance.
"A plane is about to crash!" Kara sharply turned and changed direction. Ian looked up to see a civilian passenger jet trailing black smoke as it descended at an extremely dangerous angle.
"Another plane accident! This is too frequent! There was one yesterday!" Ian could not help frowning as he began to suspect there was some unknown conspiracy behind it.
Could this be the beginning of some major event?
The more Ian thought about it, the more he felt he might have run into a troubled time.
However.
"How is that frequent? Isn't it normal?"
Kara, however, was very calm about it.
It was obvious she had plenty of experience saving planes.
"It's Boeing. They've always been like this." The familiarity in her voice, along with her confusion at Ian's overreaction, dealt a truly devastating blow to Ian's worldview.
"..."
This time, Ian was finally silenced.
He had no words to argue.
