Background / History
Tsukishiro assigns Baiye Ying, a White Room student sent to the school as an assassin, to make Ayanokoji drop out. Ying has no genuine desire to carry out the order, but his system compels him to approach Ayanokoji as proof of intent. Their first exchange is an incoherent discussion about whether Ayanokoji wants to be expelled, leaving Ayanokoji confused and wary. 1 2
Ayanokoji is enrolled in Class D. Ying initially mistakes Class D for his own classroom, then later discovers that Ayanokoji is his neighbor in the dormitory. Ayanokoji chooses to keep observing Ying because of his increasingly strange behavior. 2 5
During the midterm crisis, Ayanokoji attempts to overturn the expulsions of Sudo, Ike, and Yamauchi by purchasing the points needed for them to pass. He and Horikita Suzune cannot afford the required 600,000 points, but Ichinose ultimately lends Class D the amount under a repayment arrangement. Ayanokoji suspects that Ying may have anticipated or orchestrated parts of the situation, particularly because Ying had tutored the three boys in the affected subjects. 18
Appearance
Ayanokoji is a brown-haired youth. 20
Personality
Ayanokoji is consistently calm, restrained, and difficult for others to read. Even when Ying confronts him with bizarre behavior or Ryuen directly accuses him of masterminding Class D's actions, Ayanokoji answers without revealing much of his thinking. 2 31 46
He claims to dislike trouble and repeatedly favors an ordinary, uninvolved school life. However, his actions show concern for his classmates: he seeks a way to save Sudo, Ike, and Yamauchi from expulsion, assists with Class D's efforts during the violence case, and promises to help Horikita Suzune reach Class A. 18 29 31
