Who would destroy a mermaid's spirit?
Or rather, why make a species that was already unintelligent even dumber?
It had to be someone who didn't want Pearl to have any independence.
"Could it be Alfonso?" Thor guessed.
But he quickly refuted his own guess. "No. Alfonso's mental power isn't as strong as mine."
Thor was confident about that much.
"And Floco said the way the other person damaged Pearl's mental power nearly fooled even him."
That was how much confidence he had in the Water God.
"Flim?"
Thor and Floco exchanged a glance, thinking of the same person.
"Flim may have destroyed Pearl's spirit because there was something special about Pearl herself. But that special quality would have been a threat to Flim, so he nipped any possibility that could work against him in the bud."
Thor took one last look at Pearl. She had once again forgotten to be afraid and was pressed against the glass, staring at Thor and Floco.
She looked left, then right, as if she couldn't take it all in fast enough.
"Let's go. We've got what we came for."
Thor didn't go looking for Sand again. Instead, he returned to the entrance of the Palace, found the attendant who had been waiting for him, and went back to the Palace where he was staying temporarily.
Once they were alone, Floco sighed. "It seems my bloodline has nearly died out in this world."
None of the Atavistic Mermaids had carried the bloodline Floco had passed down.
Thor said, "What a coincidence. This one smuggled mermaid is the only one who carries your bloodline."
Floco returned to the fish tank. He had just used his power, and the mermaid's body had been pushed beyond its limits. Its skin was already beginning to crack, and it urgently
