The reason she didn't take him farther was that Black Tide Monsters rotted everywhere. Even as a Nightmare Butterfly, Penny couldn't guarantee she could get Haywood to safety.
The nearest Second Wizard Tower, however, was relatively safe. Unless Thor and Murphy both failed to hold the Anchor Point.
As Thor sent Haywood away, Murphy vanished from the ruins of the First Wizard Tower. When he reappeared, he was inside the monster beneath the Anchor Point.
The Black Tide Monster was so rotten that it was little more than bones, which made it easier for Murphy to approach its skull from below.
But the Four-Winged Anchor Point perched on the monster's head didn't care about the creature beneath it. With a light bounce, it smashed the monster's skull and charged at Murphy.
Murphy had been ready for its attack. He sank at the same time, growing as heavy as a mountain. He crushed the monster's ribs and plunged rapidly into the sea.
"Did Wizard Murphy actually go into the sea of his own accord?" Thor remembered Robin saying that the sea itself was truly corrupted.
Could Wizard Murphy be using the Corruption to ward off the Corruption? Thor's eyes lit up. Without another moment's hesitation, he turned into a black arrow, pierced the surface, and plunged into the depths.
