There was no barrier now, so Sarutobi Hiruzen could see everything the Uchiha did.
"Anbu, all of you—attack with everything you've got! First priority: destroy the Space-Time Ninjutsu!"
Sarutobi Hiruzen continued issuing orders.
Although he wanted the Uchiha dead, he knew that destroying the Space-Time Ninjutsu was the most important thing.
But now, he felt that they might have already lost. Most of the Uchiha Clan had left Konoha.
Hunting them down later would take an unknown amount of manpower and resources, and a highly dangerous enemy would emerge. He couldn't help regretting his decision.
If he had chosen to negotiate peacefully with the Uchiha from the beginning, would the outcome have been better?
"Uchiha Shisui, surrender!"
A dozen members of Root surrounded Shisui.
Danzo was hidden in the shadows.
He had set his sights on this prey and had no intention of letting him go.
He was going to claim those perfect Mangekyō Sharingan for himself.
He already knew the situation. Capturing every Uchiha was no longer possible, so he'd abandoned that plan and focused entirely on Shisui.
"Hah... hah..."
Shisui gasped for breath.
A trail of blood ran from the corner of his right eye.
The bones of a green Susanoo clung to his body. He was exhausted and couldn't maintain Susanoo's complete form for long.
He had held off most of the enemy forces, allowing his clan members to escape.
But the main reason he was so exhausted was that he'd refused to hold back against the Konoha Ninja. That took far more energy than simply killing them.
"Why? Why won't you leave the Uchiha alone?!"
"We only want to leave. We don't want to make an enemy of Konoha!"
Shisui glared at the figure in the distance, dressed in Anbu attire.
Though Danzo had concealed himself, Shisui had still spotted him.
But it was only a Shadow Clone. Danzo was deeply wary of Kotoamatsukami. Why would he risk exposing his real body?
"The Uchiha are born evil. They don't deserve to live in this world."
"Death is the Uchiha's only fate."
"Shisui, you've disappointed me. If you'd just listened to us, things would never have come to this."
Danzo's Shadow Clone stopped hiding and stepped out, looking at Shisui as he spoke coldly.
Shisui was surrounded by more than a dozen members of Root. Danzo also had four elite shinobi waiting in hiding. Shisui had nowhere left to run!
"You chose to block my way instead of pursuing the others. You're after my eyes, aren't you?"
"Too bad for you. The Mangekyō you want—the one with Kotoamatsukami—is no longer with me."
Shisui smiled as he spoke.
But his words sent Danzo into a rage.
"Sharingan!"
Danzo's Shadow Clone immediately activated his Sharingan and fixed his gaze on Shisui's eyes.
He saw that only Shisui's right eye was a Mangekyō; the other was a Three-Tomoe Sharingan, just like his own.
"Where did you hide my Mangekyō Sharingan?!"
Unable to contain his anger, Danzo demanded an answer from Shisui.
"Sharingan!"
"So it's just as Tamaharu said."
"You betrayed the trust of the Hokage who came before you and turned Konoha into a tool for strengthening your clan!"
Seeing Danzo's Sharingan, Shisui flew into a rage.
He could hardly believe that, not long ago, he'd trusted someone like this.
If Uchiha Tamaharu hadn't come to find him, this man would have tricked him into his death, and the Uchiha Clan would have been destroyed along with him!
"Capture him! Don't kill him. Find out where the other Mangekyō Sharingan is!"
Seeing this, Danzo knew Shisui wouldn't simply tell him.
But he wanted the Mangekyō Sharingan badly, so he would take Shisui alive and slowly force the answer out of him!
"Danzo, you're the one I'll never forgive!"
"I won't let you get away with this!"
Shisui glared at Danzo's Shadow Clone.
"Earth Style: Swamp!"
"Lightning Style: Lightning Net!"
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
But the members of Root around him had already attacked.
They used restraining Ninjutsu, along with capture nets and wires, to seize Shisui.
But they hit nothing but empty air.
The name Body Flicker Shisui wasn't for nothing.
"Amaterasu!!"
Blood tears streamed from both of Fugaku Uchiha's eyes.
He'd kept his Mangekyō power hidden until now, but at last he unleashed it without restraint, determined to save as many clan members as possible.
He would use the flames of Amaterasu to create an impenetrable wall and cover his clan's retreat.
With a sweep of his gaze, the familiar streets were swallowed by black flames.
The Anbu who tried to charge through could only stop in their tracks.
More than a dozen Anbu had been caught in the flames. There was no way to extinguish them, so they could only watch as the victims burned to death.
"Everyone, fall back!"
After using Amaterasu, Fugaku felt completely drained.
Still forcing himself to stand, he gave the order.
"Captain, let's go together!"
The Uchiha Clan members around him were nearly all injured. Not one of them was unhurt.
"Go! Don't waste time. Once you're gone, I can leave too!"
Fugaku snapped angrily.
Seeing this, the others could only run toward the Portal without looking back.
About ten seconds later.
"Puff! Puff! Puff!"
The Anbu dug tunnels beneath the ground to avoid direct contact with Amaterasu's flames. They still managed to break through the defensive line.
"Fire Style: Great Fire Annihilation!"
Fugaku Uchiha didn't hesitate any longer.
He exhaled a powerful stream of flames, setting the surrounding houses alight, then immediately retreated.
If they were leaving, the houses were of no use to them. He might as well put them to use and hinder Konoha's forces.
"925, 926..."
Uchiha Tamaharu stood at the entrance to the Portal, counting how many clan members had gone through.
There were about twenty still missing.
"They're here! The people with the Clan Leader have arrived!"
A Uchiha on lookout duty reported to Uchiha Tamaharu.
"Cover them!"
Uchiha Tamaharu gave the order.
Five clan members with Three-Tomoe Sharingan had stayed behind with him. They were among the best Jonin.
At his command, they attacked without hesitation, using the Uchiha's specialty, Fire Release, to set the surrounding houses ablaze and create obstacles, covering the others' retreat.
"Everyone, get through this Portal!"
Uchiha Tamaharu joined the fight, swiftly throwing more than a dozen Kunai.
Then, with three hand seals, he unleashed Lightning Style and formed an electric net to stop the Anbu from pursuing them.
Only when he saw Fugaku Uchiha appear did he finally relax.
"Earth Release: Earth Flow River!!"
But at that moment, Sarutobi Hiruzen charged over.
He unleashed Earth Release, aiming straight for the Portal.
