The instant he maxed out Lightning Light Chain, a prompt appeared on the panel. Unfortunately, before Sasuke could let out a triumphant laugh, his head began to feel heavy and foggy.
I forgot about that! Feeling the vast amount of knowledge filling his mind, Sasuke could only purse his lips helplessly and go straight to bed.
After Sasuke fell asleep, an unwelcome visitor showed up outside his house: Naruto.
Although Sakura had threatened him into keeping quiet, Naruto still wasn't convinced that Sasuke was better than him. So he headed straight to Sasuke's house.
"You jerk, Sasuke!"
After knocking for a long time without Sasuke coming to open the door, Naruto started getting worked up. After grumbling for a while, he reluctantly went back home.
The next morning, the first thing Sasuke did when he opened his eyes was rub his heavy head.
"Guess I shouldn't get carried away." He shook his head to clear it, washed up, got dressed, and headed to Ichiraku Ramen for breakfast.
After eating, Sasuke sent his special Shadow Clone home and went to the meeting point. Kakashi would probably check whether he was the real deal today.
Once there, Sasuke waited patiently. Before long, Sakura and Kakashi arrived together.
"You're the real you, right?" Kakashi asked as soon as he saw Sasuke. He wanted to make sure yesterday's events didn't happen again.
"Of course. Yesterday was an exception," Sasuke replied calmly. Then he waited in silence.
"Good."
Kakashi relaxed at Sasuke's answer, and the three of them waited for Naruto.
A short while later, with only a minute left before the meeting time, Uzumaki Naruto came running over, panting.
"About time," Sasuke said coolly.
"Damn it! The guy who sends a Shadow Clone on a mission has no right to criticize me!"
Naruto had been about to apologize, but Sasuke's words immediately set him off.
Sasuke could only purse his lips and ignore Naruto's tantrum.
"Damn you..." Annoyed by Sasuke's smug attitude, Naruto decided to teach this Shadow Clone a lesson. After all, he ought to be able to beat one.
"He's the real one this time," Sakura reminded him out of the blue, seeing what Naruto was thinking.
"The real one? I don't believe it!"
Naruto shook his head at Sakura's words. He just couldn't believe Sasuke would show up in person to do a mission.
"All right, Naruto. It's getting late. We need to pick up a mission," Kakashi interrupted as Naruto squared off against Sasuke. It wouldn't do to have Naruto get injured before they even started their mission.
What, you think Naruto could beat Sasuke? You must still be dreaming!
"Okay, Kakashi-sensei!"
Only after Kakashi stopped him did Naruto finally believe the person in front of him was really Sasuke.
Since Naruto wasn't late this time, Team 7 got a pretty decent mission. It was easy enough, and the pay was good.
As they left the mission center, Kakashi glanced at Sasuke and asked out of the blue, "You're the real one, right?" He blinked curiously. Back at the training ground, he hadn't even noticed when Sasuke had used the Shadow Clone Technique.
"Of course!"
Sasuke could only purse his lips at the question. It seemed he really couldn't get out of this one.
"Good. Let's go, then. The mission is to hunt two bears and deliver them to an injured hunter." After confirming Sasuke was the real one, Kakashi led his team toward the hills behind the village.
Once they entered the hills, Team 7 soon found two bears and took them down with ease. Sasuke did most of the work, of course. Unless it was absolutely necessary, Kakashi wouldn't lift a finger!
Sakura was no match for a bear yet, and Naruto had no jutsu capable of dealing it a fatal blow. That left Sasuke's Taiji Rasengan as the only thing that could kill one.
When Naruto, Sakura, and Kakashi saw Sasuke use the Taiji Rasengan, they were all taken aback. It was clearly no ordinary Rasengan!
"Based on your performance today, I'll put you through special training after we hand in the mission," Kakashi told the three of them once his surprise had passed. Then he had Naruto use Shadow Clones to carry the two bears, which Sasuke had injured with his Rasengan, to the hunter's house.
After spending some time handing over the mission, Kakashi led the three of them to the training ground. There, Team 7 ran into Team 8 and Team 10, who were sparring.
"Sorry to interrupt your date," Kakashi joked as he walked onto the training ground and spotted Asuma and Kurenai discussing how to give their students more focused training.
"Kakashi? What are you...?"
Kurenai blushed at Kakashi's words and said nothing. Asuma turned to look at Kakashi and Team 7, bewildered. What was going on?
Wasn't Team 7 supposed to be on a mission at this time?
"Seeing how they performed in battle just now made me realize they have some issues, so..." Kakashi glanced at the composed Sasuke and explained to the two why he was there. Asuma and Kurenai only led their teams on missions once every two days.
"Since you're here, how about a spar?"
While Kakashi was still chatting with Asuma and Kurenai, Inuzuka Kiba—who had just mastered his clan's ninjutsu with Akamaru—noticed Team 7 arrive and challenged them to a match.
"Sure! I'd love to!"
Naruto had felt frustrated during the fight with the bears, so he immediately rolled up his sleeves when Kiba invited him to fight.
"Get back!"
Just as Naruto was about to step into the middle of the training ground, the usually silent Sasuke suddenly spoke.
"Why?"
Naruto had already been preparing to face Kiba one-on-one. He looked at Sasuke in confusion.
"A ninja's skills aren't meant for picking fights." Looking at Naruto's baffled expression, Sasuke spoke the words of the Will of Fire against his better judgment.
Poor little Sasuke, stuck with no way out, and heir to the Will of Fire!
