Background / History

Naruto begins as the Ninja Academy's lowest-ranked student. His determination to surpass Sasuke is rooted in loneliness and a desire for recognition, making their rivalry immediate despite Sasuke's indifference. 8

After graduating, Naruto joins Team 7 with Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi. His large chakra reserves let him use Multi Shadow Clone Technique, but his poor chakra control repeatedly hinders his training; Sakura attributes part of the problem to the Nine-Tails' influence. 33 37

Sasuke secretly exploits Naruto on multiple occasions: he places a Tomoe Seal on him in anticipation of Naruto stealing the Sealing Scroll, later uses Naruto's cells in his own plans, and initially considers Naruto's cells and Minato's kunai repayment for a ramen meal. 28 29 38

Following Sasuke's defection and Konoha's losses, Jiraiya takes Naruto away to train. Naruto later learns that Minato Namikaze was his father, triggering a mental breakdown amid Sasuke's assault on Konoha. 108 187
