Background / History

Founding

True Monarch Jiankong had been a branch member of the Divine Court responsible for sacrificial rites and guarding the Dao Soldier known as the Haotian Mirror. When the Divine Court collapsed, the mirror shattered; Jiankong escaped with its fragments into the wilderness of Chenli. 263

At the time, Chenli was ravaged by cold from the extreme northern ice fields and overrun by demons, ghosts, and malignant spirits. Jiankong used the mirror fragments to redirect sunlight, melt the ice and snow, shelter refugees, and establish a lineage that taught cultivation and spread the Dao. The Jiankong Mountain Range was named for him. 263

The lineage did not become a recognized sect until Heavenly Monarch Jianguang reached the Pure Yang realm sixteen centuries after Jiankong’s death. This gave the Mingjing Sect a stable Saint Manifestation inheritance and a path toward Dao Palace Pure Yang, elevating it from a minor school to a Middle Sect. 263

Golden Age and Decline

During its golden age, five True Disciples reformed the sect’s laws, reshaped its Outer Sect and True Disciple systems, fought Heavenly Demons, and became True Monarchs. Their era marked the Mingjing Sect’s most prosperous three thousand years. 727

By the time An Jing joined, the sect faced a succession crisis. Heavenly Monarch Chengguang was nearing the end of his lifespan, potential Saint Manifestation seeds were being assassinated, and the sect relied heavily on older experts. Without new successors, it risked falling from Chenli’s foremost Middle Sect into the lower ranks of the forty-nine Middle Sects. 264 276 662 725

Nine Peaks

Mingjing Mountain stands at the center of a ring-shaped mountain basin. Four early peaks—Jinghuang, Xuguang, Xiaoming, and Shihui—form the inner ring with its grid of Spirit Lands. Weichen, Chuyao, Yuansha, and Xingxi form the outer ring. Mingguang Peak, established later in the northern mountains, is the ninth peak. 687

Main Mountain

The Main Mountain is accessed through two enormous eastern and western peaks at the entrance to the central Jiankong Mountain Range. The range extends west toward the Extreme Northern Ice Plains and east toward Da Chen’s border at Thunder Gate Gorge. 678

Its inner ring functions as an industrial district, housing artifact-refining workshops and alchemy halls. Purification systems recycle the Golden Sha, Fire Sha, Earth Sha, and other residual Spirit Fiend generated by production. The outer ring contains residences, roads, Array Towers, and housing for sect members. 687

Core Heritage

Haotian Mirror

The sect’s central inheritance is the sentient fragment of the Haotian Mirror, a Dao Soldier from the Divine Court. Founder Jiankong received the recognition of its Mirror Spirit; the Shangxuan Sect possesses a separate fragment but lacks the Mirror Spirit and therefore does not hold the main body. 683

The name Mingjing expresses the sect’s doctrine: reveal one’s present form, understand one’s past conditions, and use that knowledge to plan the future. 678

Self in the Mirror

Self in the Mirror is the Mingjing Sect’s Great Dao Supernatural Ability and its most important method of preserving secret arts. It can temporarily grant a disciple the abilities, Divine Anomalies, and techniques possessed by its user at an earlier stage of cultivation. 308

Its arts continuously refine qi, then use stacking, light gathering, refraction, and reflection to store power or release sudden bursts far beyond normal output. Its characteristic Spirit Fiends, Xuanqing Light Qi and Xuan-Condensing Light Fiend, are especially suited to these methods. 720

It honors past patriarchs, sacrifices to Heaven and Earth, recruits qualified disciples, and forecasts weather to prevent droughts, cold spells, floods, and insect plagues over the following decade. 749

During the ceremony, the Sky Vault Mirror Array gathers light from the sun, moon, stars, and mortal lamps. The concentrated light ignites Great Sun Purple Qi, which spreads across the sect and its towns to ease illness, heal injuries, and strengthen vital energy. 749 754

Mingjing Nirvana

The sect’s looming collapse became explicit during the grand ceremony, when the sun divine fire flared with unprecedented intensity before abruptly dying down. The resulting Mingjing Nirvana crisis was tied to Ming Guangchen’s departure from Huaixu, accumulated karmic conflicts, and coordinated enemies seeking the sect’s destruction. 754

Ming Guangchen had already been ordered to preserve the lineage by founding a Second Mingjing Sect in the Dahuang Realm. He received authority to reestablish sect laws, use hidden arts and treasures, construct the Jiankong Jianwo Silence-Returning Heart Grand Array, establish halls, accept all races, and found a nation if necessary. 724

The Mingjing Sect ultimately defeated the Taiming Sect. The Haotian Mirror completed the Taiji Yin-Yang Great Array and ascended to the Lingxiao level, ending the Nirvana crisis and transforming the Mingjing Sect into an Upper Sect. 793

Reconstruction and Expansion

After the Nirvana, the sect spread An Jing’s Ascension Path across Chenli. Because the Youli Nethersea disaster had left vast numbers of souls without bodies, the Ascension Path became a means of restoring the dead through Ascension bodies. The scarce Ascension Chips that carry Divine Souls remain a limiting resource controlled by the Mingjing Sect. 901

The sect began mass-producing Ascension Shells through assembly lines as part of its recovery. 803 Its reconstruction remains resource-intensive: despite its new Upper Sect status, rebuilding Chenli and restoring the sect’s foundations would otherwise require centuries or millennia. 896

In its later form, the Mingjing Sect restores the Dao Court-era concept of a sect as an academy-and-school consortium. Its rebuilt cities use Yankui and Array Formations for ecological restoration and construction, while education, training camps, cultivation institutions, and competitions are open free of charge to residents. 1099
