Background / History
Childhood and early outlook
Suzune grew up in the shadow of her older brother, Horikita Manabu, whom she regarded as a genius and model for her entire life. Although the siblings had little contact, his offhand preferences and achievements became standards she attempted to imitate—including growing out her hair after he said he liked long hair. 179
She excelled academically and athletically, maintained perfect attendance even while ill, and imposed intense self-discipline on herself. Her refusal to engage in social relationships left her isolated, though she initially regarded that isolation as unimportant. 44 48
Class D and rivalry
As a Class D student, Suzune's blunt remarks about the class's zero Class Points provoked Sudo Ken into attacking her. She was prepared to evade the punch before Kitagawa Ryo intervened. 72
She developed an intense rivalry with Ryo and was determined to defeat him in special exams. However, observing Karuizawa Kei's ability to negotiate, lead, and connect with classmates forced Suzune to recognize her own weakness in interpersonal relationships. 82 88
Suzune later contributed directly in competition, including defeating Ibuki Mio in the women's 100-meter race during the Sports Festival. 143
Simulated life and self-discovery
In the life simulation centered on Suzune, Ryo trained her in academics, Aikido, piano, cooking, tea ceremony, and physical conditioning, initially using Manabu as motivation. He also pushed her into serving as her class's Cultural Festival executive committee member, forcing her to confront group work and public opinion. 179 180
Her attempt to enter the Drama Club exposed her inexperience with expression and social interaction. Kushida Kikyo manipulated the freshmen's perception of Suzune, encouraged rumors that she had used connections to enter the club, and arranged for her to perform Lady Macbeth. 168 171
After Sakayanagi Arisu revealed that Manabu had not wanted Suzune to follow him blindly, Suzune suffered an emotional collapse. Her eventual reunion with Manabu clarified that he had wanted her to become her own person, rather than pursue him as a final destination. 181 182 188
The simulation's completion condition was for Suzune to overcome Manabu's shadow. It was cleared with a 100-point rating, awarding Ryo the item “Self of Horikita Suzune.” 190
Memories and Student Council career
Suzune later regained memories of the simulated future. Using her knowledge of Kushida's anonymous blog, she forced Kushida to allow her a fair chance in the Drama Club's final audition and began working with Ryo to alter the remembered future. 191
She joined the Student Council and became a diligent administrator, handling club-budget conflicts, external-competition applications, misconduct reviews, and Class Point matters. Her consistent attendance and overtime work greatly raised her Social Contribution rating. 220 435
After overcoming her fixation on Manabu, Suzune pursued the Student Council as a platform to test her own abilities rather than merely inherit his position. She later became Student Council President and appointed Yuki as Vice President amid a membership shortage. 501 627
Appearance
Suzune has glossy jet-black hair and purplish-red eyes. Her long hair reaches her waist; while it began as an imitation of Manabu's preference, she eventually chose to keep it because she genuinely liked it. 72 188
- Long, carefully maintained black hair, sometimes tied back for cooking. 225
- Often wears an intricate braid beside one ear. 397
- Violet or purplish-red eyes. 72 184
- Her outwardly composed expression and dignified bearing often cause others to mistake her for an aloof “ice queen.” 524
Personality
Suzune is disciplined, competitive, and intensely purposeful. She initially evaluates people according to visible competence and personal utility, even dismissing Karuizawa Kei as having no discernible value beyond her history with Ryo. 50 175
Her confidence masks a deep inferiority complex rooted in Manabu's influence. She was willing to follow his example without questioning whether it reflected her own wishes, treating him as a flawless goal rather than a person with his own uncertainty. 166 188
Although naturally blunt and socially inexperienced, Suzune gradually learns to account for public opinion, cooperate with others, and distinguish her own values from those imposed on her. She remains perfectionistic and can become stubborn when faced with unfamiliar tasks or emotional uncertainty. 180 622

- Required guidance from Karuizawa Kei to improve enough for her final audition. 173
